    I adore Caletheas but they don’t like me. The Makoyana is the only one that has survived my ignorance.
    I adore this video and yes I’d love to see one with the death net. ❤️

    i think big box store put a wrong ID Calathea Rosy has a shorter & slightly rounded leaf i think its a Calathea Silvia cause it has elongated leaves just like what you have... i collect calatheas and i have both rosy and silvia...

    Thank you for the new plant care information it is very helpful! A couple of months ago I realized after watching plant care videos that some plants come with plastic plugs. I purchased two aglaonema a few months back that were on clearance. Not realizing they had those plastic plugs until I went to repot and thankfully now, they are thriving!

      Yes!! I have heard about plastic plugs! It’s so bad! I haven’t come across one for my plants yet but I hear about it and I’m just like why?!!

    Gorgeous calathea!! I almost gave into the tempation to pick one up myself yesterday at Lowes but I didn't. I have the Dottie and the Ornata, both soooo pretty, and was lucky to pick up a Fasciata at a local grocery store on Monday! I've never seen her before, anywhere, and she was the last plant on my 2022 wishlist. Good tips here : ) And your videos very much relax me

    It's because of your Rosy that I got a Rosy... mine is VERY small compared to yours though. Haven't found one so big and beautiful in box stores where I live in Canada but I love seeing littles grow in my care so I hope she does well for me.

    This was fun and interesting to watch. I hadn’t really thought to unpot to check h
    The roots for the death plug. I have found a couple with repot. Maybe I need to check when I bring the new plants home. Thanks for showing all this.

    • @plantsbymelissa
      @plantsbymelissa  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You’re welcome! It’s not something you have to remove or even remove right away but I usually remove it at some point after the plant acclimates and I feel it prevents harm later down the road 🤗

    Such a beautiful plant and she looks great on your entry hall table! Many thanks for this video and for all your tips. A little extra work up front can avoid some stress later on so it’s more than worth the steps and efforts you take to give the plant a healthy start. I’ve had plants forever and I can admit I wasn’t always so thorough with checking them and handling preventative maintenance on them. We live and learn and sometimes we just get lucky! 😵‍💫. Happy growing! 👌🪴🥰

    • @plantsbymelissa
      @plantsbymelissa  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep! Sometimes I don’t do it right away but most of the time I do especially for certain plants like calathea because I know how finicky they can be. Definitely worth a little more work up front! 🤗

    Lots of great info in this video. I think your cautious care approach following a purchase from a box store is spot on. I also like how you teach to be carefully observant of newly purchased plants to find those not readily apparent pests and problems. One issue I’ve had from box store plants, in particular sago palms, is that they water all their plants in the same manner regardless of individual plant water requirements. I’ve lost 3 sago palms that I believe were overwatered by the store so may have had root rot when I bought them. Many of my plants are from box stores and are thriving but I’m frustrated with my sago issue. I don’t know anything about mosquito bits but thanks to this video I’ll do some research about that product. Again, vey informative video and thanks again.

      Thank you for watching! I always see the sago palms and would love to have one outside! Good to know that they don’t do well at the big box stores. I feel like so many plants get overwatered! I see succulents just sitting in a pool of water it makes me so sad! 🥲
