+Edgar Ongjoco Biggest flaw of that argument was that with Clyde Drexler, Houston would never even think about drafting MJ. How would that even work anyway, both Clyde and MJ were hyper athletic ball-dominant 2s who wouldn't ever consider coming off the bench for each other. Houston would have most likely drafted that bust Portland drafted in the 1984 draft to try and replace Sampson. If they were be smart they would've drafted Barkley and moved Hakeem to center, but that is a little bit of wishful thinking as the thinking back then was draft the best center available always. While Houston would have been undoubtedly better with prime Clyde (as opposed to end of career Clyde they got in 95), they would never have gotten Jordan for the same reason Portland didn't draft Jordan in 84, because they had Clyde.
I shed a tear watching this. As a pure Suns fan, I'll take this simulation. Thank you. We really have a very cheap owner.
I think we would have given San Antonio the fits with Joe Johnson around and a championship. West and getting Gortat early is fine but shipping out JJ was the nail in the coffin. It's no dynasty but I'd be thankful for at least one title.

great vid Mike, but your theory is just wrong for several reasons. Yes the talent on the team could have been better but just being realistic this suns team could never have won no more than 1 chip. There are several wholes in your storyline beyond the 06 season, but simply put Amare's injuries, Cap Space and the lack of defense would have cost any suns team the satisfaction of winning it all.

Joe was so underrated in Atlanta. One of the most reliable scorers and wing playmakers in the late 2000s. I blame the Suns never reaching the finals on Bruce Bowen being a dirty player which lead to Amare being suspended in a critical game and BS moment.

Suns fan here. The blame really is on Sarver. If Colangelo never sold the team to him, this great dynasty probably could've been accomplished. Sarver was greedy and when he did wanna spend, it was for the wrong players (Warrick, Childress, Bledsoe, Knight, Chandler, it can go on). This season he apologizes for being selfish for all these years. It's too late Robert. You've done too much damage to the franchise already. He needs to sell the Suns.

I just ran into this channel about an hour ago, I love some the scenarios but ones like this with the teams.
Reason being, if Suns already had Marion, right? they would not (or you in this case) would not draft Iggy. You only say you would because of how good Iggy became. Or, you would not, or anyone would not play the same unique style they played that was difficult to play against.

I watched the Nash/Amar'e-led Suns live a decade ago. Besides obviously defense, they could never beat San Antonio due to how well the Spurs defended the 3-ball, though the NBA screwed Phoenix in '07. Stoudemire and Diaw got suspended while somehow, Tim Duncan avoided it despite leaving the bench during an altercation in the second quarter of G4.

What I like about this Suns lineup is the fact that you have so many options. Also, this team has solid offensive and defensive lineups. You want offense? You have Johnson, the Matrix, Stat and of course Nash running the show. You want defense? You could still have Nash out there but have Gortat, West, Prince and Iggy all of who were solid defenders. You could do all kinds of crazy combinations to take on any team in the league. About the only other thing you would need is a third PG and maybe one more big man off the bench for rebounds and shot blocking, but that's it.

i used to love that suns team, but it seemed like every year the spurs would eliminate them from the playoffs. I always wondered why they wouldn't spend money and build around the team, i guess i know why now.
They finally did get past the Spurs in 2010, but then lost the WCF to the Lakers.

Marvin C yes it would have defintely changed the Raptors for several years after 2001 when they were one game from the east finals after 2001 the raptors got eliminated from the first rd in 2002 then missed the playoffs for several years with Mcgrady the Raptors would have made the playoffs in 2003 an 2004 an reached the second rd at least for sure. With Mcgrady an V Carter I think Mcgrady would have turned into the leading scorer on the team. Things went very downhill for Vince Carter's legacy too with Mcgrady he would have had more success even Mcgrady struggled to win cause of the Magic having an injured Grant Hill.

You're using Marcin Gortat since his draft day, but remember that he was "not ready for NBA", just like other Polish players - Trybański, Lampe (these two played NBA matches in the following seasons, what was a big mistake), or even Szymon Szewczyk, who had never made his NBA debut. Gortat had to play 2 more seasons in Germany, before he actually signed with Orlando - before that, they only had rights to sign him. He is a valuable player, but not make him a Marcin GOATat. Finals MVP at 4:26 in a middle of Amare's prime. LOL
