Not a guarantee by any stretch. They needed so much luck to beat the Blazers coming off a storybook 67win season in 00', when Shaq was at his absolute apex. Kobe also played the absolute best defense of his career that year, and was relatively unselfish. They also had a legitimate 3rd wheel that year in Glen Rice; something they lacked after. They won 2 more titles after that against somewhat lesser competition, and the one against Sacramento in 02' was even more lucky than the one against Portland in 00'. But then the competition was heating up, Shaq was getting old, Kobe was getting really selfish, so I'd say only if they would've been able to add a 3rd relatively young dynamic piece. I don't know where they were with their salary cap situation?

+Mike Korzemba Just curious as to why the Warriors from '67 to '75 didn't make the list. In the '65 season, the Warriors were on pace for dead last in the league even before trading Wilt. That led the Warriors to drafting Rick Barry, so had Wilt never left, Rick would've joined the Warriors regardless of whether Wilt stays or not. In '67, Wilt led his Sixers to a championship against Rick Barry's Warriors. Rick then decided to sit out the following season so he could join the ABA, which led to the Warriors falling off the map yet again. In '69, Rick Barry led the Oakland Oaks to the ABA championship and Wilt sat on the Lakers bench in the final minutes of game 7 thanks to an injury and the world's dumbest coach. In '72, Rick just lost in the ABA finals to the Pacers, the only team that I can would actually consider a dynasty in the 70s. Meanwhile, Wilt won the NBA finals with the Lakers that year. We know Wilt also made the finals in '70 and '73 and that Rick Barry rejoined the Warriors and won the finals in '75. I'm not sure the Warriors would still win in '75, but I'd be pretty confident that had Wilt and Rick stayed with the Warriors, you're guaranteed championships in '67, '69, and '72 in my opinion and I think it's fair to say the Warriors probably still win in '75 as well.

DreDaDon__ Doc did play with the Atlanta Hawks for a game or two during the 1972 preseason before a court ruling said that the Virginia Squires still held his rights, so he went back to the ABA. I think there had been an earlier ruling that said that the Bucks held his rights and the Bucks traded his rights to the Hawks, so that's why he was there.

Can't be mad. Never know if that would've worked out, either. I wasn't old enough yet to know it in '86, but I'm sure people then thought that team staying together was a sure thing, too. No telling whether Olajuwon, Jordan, and Drexler could do it. Probably. Almost certainly. But we still got two championships, back to back, so I'm not too concerned with how it turned out. It made me a lifelong Rockets fan the way it happened, so.

My Blazers could've had a dynasty if it weren't for injuries. Brandon Roy was a top SG, LMA was rounding into a good PF, and Greg Oden, if healthy could've been a solid center. Having pieces like Camby, Andre Miller, Batum, Wes Matthews, Rudy Fernandez, Gerald Wallace, we could've contended for a while, if injuries didn't happen as they did.

It's hard to say because of the return of Chicago to dominance. Orlando lost to Chicago in the 1996 ECF, so it would've been difficult for Orlando to be a dynasty even if Shaq stayed. Even after the Bulls' run ended, we still don't know whether the Magic would've been headed for greatness.

Sacramento Kings have been forgotten 1999 - 2003, especially Playoffs 2002. Orlando Magic is wrong in that video, Orlando management messed it up, Shaq and Penny were fine. Cheers.
Plus: I doubt that Phoenix was close to winning the West at all. Running into San Antonio or Dallas was a problem for 7 seconds or less Mike D'Antoni. Still though, they were pretty much fun to watch - but the picks you address here were picking the right sleepers back in those days. They were not so clearly like Melo. I agree on Melo being better in Detroit (or Wade) this was a clear mistake. Still though, championships wouldn't been secure. Boston came up in 2008, San Antonio, Dallas were massive forces as well. I think Detroit should have won 1 or 2 championships more in the 80ies which is a shame they lost on 0.1 in the Garden to Bird and Isiah Thomas being injured in 1988 in game 6 leading that game in the finals against the Lakers being up 3-2......this is a dynasty which should get much more credit for being unlucky.

  • @ericeiserloh8170

You missed the mid 70's Warriors, whose owner was too cheap to pay Jamal Wilkes and Gus Williams (who left as free agents and went on to win championships with their new teams), choosing to pay Phil Smith to pair with Rick Barry instead. Phil was a star in the making (even made two All NBA teams), but he had a bad injury not too long after signing his deal, and was never the same. They also had a young Robert Parish, but traded him and the #3 pick (which the Celtics used for McHale) in exchange for the #1 pick (Joe Barry Carrol), who never became as good as other of these guys.
Just imagine Gus Williams, Phil Smith, Jamal Wilkes, Rick Barry, Robert Parish, and Kevin McHale all on the same team... the Warriors, by the way, won a title with Barry, as well as Wilkes and Smith as rookies, and added Williams and Parish over the next couple of seasons before the team began to be broken apart by their cheapskate owner at the time.
A second Warrior debacle occurred about 15 years later after they drafted Chris Webber to go along with Chris Mullin, Tim Hardaway, Latrell Sprewell, and Billy Owens. Hardaway injured his knee to begin the season , but they signed Avery Johnson and went 50-32, before bowing out to Phoenix in the first round of the playoffs. They were due to get Hardaway back the following year, but then the team blew up over the Summer, when Webber forced a trade

Now, I know I can't watch any NBA videos with mentioning the Mavs, but I think they could've been on this list too. Had we not been too cheap and resigned Nash we would have had the MVP on our team three years in a row (Nash won i twice immediately followed by Dirk getting the MVP the next year in 2007). Also, in 2006, with Nash the MVP on the Suns, the Mavericks advanced past them in the West to play, and eventually lose, to the Heat in FINALS. The next year, when Dirk won the MVP, the Mavs had one of the greatest seasons in the history of the league by winning 60 games. Although easily the number one seed, they lost in the first round to a team they couldn't matchup against in Golden State. They finally won ONE Championship in 2010-2011 but I've always thought they had the potential to do way more during the 11 or 12 year streak of them making the playoffs starting in 2000-2001 and making it in each year until the 2012-2013 season. Sure, blame it on Dirk who "shrunk in the playoffs blah blah blah.." but he didn't have much help. Had we kept Nash maybe things would have been easier for Dirk. Who by the way, basically won the Mavs our Championship by himself and NOT A SINGLE OTHER ALL STAR against the Heat's 3 superstars. His years weren't wasted. He is under appreciated and under valued in every town across America but in Dallas he is, and will always remain, the legend he deserves to be.

My apologies, but the best dynasty goes to the Boston Celtics of the late 50's through the 60's. Bill Russell led this team to 11 titles in 13 seasons, including 8 in a row. That was domination, pure and simple. This is playing against talented teams (the Lakers had superstars Jerry West and Elgin Baylor, and the NY Knicks had Walt Frazier and Willis Reed with future HOFer Cazzie Russell coming off the bench, for instance), legendary coaches (Butch Van Breda Kolff, Red Holtzman, for examples) and arguably the most dominant center to play the game in Wilt Chamberlain. Virtually every night, Boston played with the biggest target on their backs in history of any modern sport.
No Lakers team ever matched this record, and Kobe's weren't going to. Jordan's bulls didn't do it.
As for the Orlando Magic, the reason they lost in the 1995 finals was zero contribution off the bench and a Rockets team that played like one.
You might want to correct your history.

I'm going to be in defense of the thunder. It was a terrible trade, but Westbrook and Durant have become twice the players they were 4 years ago from this point. And. Sam Presti never stops making good moves. Enes Kanter and Steven Adams and serge ibaka are the frontcourt that okc needed. Making okc guard-heavy and thinning out the frontcourt may not have worked in their favor. It looks good on 2k and on paper to have three superstar ballhandlers together, but I don't know how well it wouldve actually worked out. Any spurs comparisons are wrong because the spurs had parker (a point guard), duncan (dominant power forward/center) and ginobili. Kevin Durant does not give to his team what Duncan gave to the spurs in his 20's and early 30's.

Put some respect on the 2007 to 2012 Celtics. They should have won 2, at least. KG hurt in 09, Perkins going down before Game 7 in 10,… could have had a 3 peat against the Lakers if they stayed healthy and kept their team together

You should include these teams on the list:
    1968-73 Lakers
Larry Bird + Len Bias Celtics
    70's Celtics
    2008-2013 Celtics
    Tmac/Yao Rockets
    Roy/Aldridge/Oden Blazers

addition to honorable mentions 2011 mavs what if chandler kept
also late 2000s cavs what if bron did not made an issue with delonte and his mom
also dynasty gsw could have been 4 peat if draymond did not suspend game 5
1960s sixers what if wilt did not trade also
included also the 1980s bucks what if they did not have injuries or drug issues
1998 lakers also what if kobe have limited his shots and rely on either shaq van exel or eddie jones and also if they kept divac they could have their own twin towers.
1976 gsw what if barry did make shots on 2nd half of wcf g7 vs suns.

Larry Bird has always said he thought the 1984 Lakers were a better team than the Celtics that year. Their unstoppable 1989 team lost both Byron Scott and James Worthy to injury just prior to the finals. Point taken on the Rockets--the 1986 team was scary good.

I was old enough to remember Penny and Shaq and they won so easy. But Shaq and kobe only won 3 rings together yet it is still considered an underachievement!!. Kobe would have had at least 7 rings, yup one more than Jordan. And we would see the greatest of all time retire this week. Instead his game got blacked out for the Warriors 73 game record. Huhh???
