  • The Capitals made a bunch of picks and pulled off some notable trades this weekend. Did they do enough to improve for next year?

    Lol Parascak was not a "massive" reach. He was 4th in draft eligible players in NHLe and was projected late 1st round. Eiserman is totally one-dimensional and is just a pure shooter. Just a bad take in general or click bait, not sure which. That's it.

    He scored over 100 points in his rookie WHL season. Nuff said

    We'll see what happens. I think you're overreacting a bit. If the Caps are correct about Paracak improving as a skater and the fact he was 17 and put up those numbers in the WHL suggests a lot of promise.
    While there are a number of prospects who busted because they couldn't skate well enough (apparently that was why John Slaney was a first round bust for the Caps in the early 90's) but hockey sense like that isn't taught.

    I was critical of the Parascak pick only because of who they passed up on, (I thought that Eiserman and Connelly both should've been picked in the top 15), but this is still a guy who put up 100+ in the WHL last season. Yes he has some skating concerns and will be a longer-term project, but that's fine when the current core of McMichael, Lapierre, Miro and Leonard have all started to come into their own. I would not call him a "massive reach" either, most rankings had him between 25-35, only a little below where the Caps actually selected him. You also never know the conversations that were had, maybe GMBM was trying to trade down from pick 17 but nobody else was willing to bite. I have him as my third ranked prospect in Washington's system, although I recognize that he's likely at least three years away from being NHL ready. Still a great video overall, liked your player analysis and glad to see that there are more Caps creators on the platform to provide their takes on the team!

    Parascak looked great in the development camp and down the line, if he moves to LW he could be a really good feeder for Leonard. Washington doesn't have many open spots on the roster so if it takes 2 years for Parascak that's fine. As for his skating, that's what Wendy is for. Eiserman reminds me of Sprong. I don't think he ever becomes a franchise scorer.

    B+ sounds about right, maybe even A- if you're really bullish. I'd give the draft on its own a B or B-, but the Thompson trade really boosts it. I agree the Parascak pick was a reach, though not an egregious one. He's still a 1st round talent. He gets to stay with his linemate Zac Funk who the Caps signed earlier this year, and the team went with a bunch of forwards whose primary weakness is skating, so they seem confident they can coach that aspect of their game, which is why they drafted Protas' brother, to repeat the success they've had with him. The Malenstyn trade was an absolute masterclass move by GMBM as well.

    your very good at this! i hope a pod cast is in the future.
    ramble alert (lazy speller but you get the gist)
    i love my caps(since the late 70s) but no where to watch anything about them except locked on capitals, i find that channel so preachey and a captain obvious vibe, i have thought of doing a utube channel myself at 61, maybe when i retire lol
    completly agree with your analysis on the draft, after pld trade i was worried about GM mccallum . surprised they didnt take eiserman or trade back and get more assets . doesnt seem mac is into playing games since he has both titles of president and gm this year.
    but he has gotten better lately.
    tarik needs some muscle i think he is a good pick after watching highlights ,he does seem to always find the puck and has a gift for having space around him.(maybe not at nhl level,we will see). man the prospects we have look incredible, remember sleeper pick cam allen from last year ryan chesley hopefully comes, mcmicheal has he already hit his ceiling? lapriere is moving up and he looks twice thes size of when we drafted him. leonard, myro, suzy, cristal the list just goes on , and hutson this year. we are due for a young breakout player that other teams seem to get, it will probably be leonard.
    the only wild card with risk is pld. ......but it could work.
    keep up your good work.

    I do agree with you on trading back: I don't think Parascak was high enough on teams' lists that trying to trade with teams who had picks #20-25 would've been a bad idea (and TBF: GMBM might have been trying to do that very thing behind the scenes...)
    I also wouldn't have been mad if the Caps had sent #17 to Winnipeg for McGroarty (I know they would've had to send prospects and/or other picks too, but still: A fan can daydream)

    Hershey Bears season ticket holder so I've got to keep an eye on what is coming down the pipeline. With that said, I enjoy watching players who graduated up to play with the Caps. Sad to see Malenstein go elsewhere but I somewhat agree with your take on it. Some teams would rather let another team use the resources to develop a player into an NHL player and it seems the Capitals are happy taking as many swings as possible with guys knowing sometimes these picks are duds and sometimes they hit home runs for great value.

    I mean, i didn't know what to think about Parascak at first when he was drafted. But the kid was a swiss army knife. PP and PK and scored 4 shorties. He doesn't just have good hockey IQ. He has elite hockey IQ. And 6' 175 isnt bad. Thats about the size i was when I graduated high school. Him filling out to 185-190 when hes 20 will be nice. He'll be bigger and stronger and his skating will improve. And once that happens. This kid is gonna be lethal. Theres a reason so many teams passed on Eiserman. Lots of talk about him being one dimensional and attitude as well. You also gotta look at how good the caps have been at developing their players. Would Malenstyn have developed this well if he were drafted by some of these other clubs? Then we have coach Carbs who id say is probably top 3 coaches in the division. Maybe even top 2. Lets revisit this at the end if jext season to determine if this kid is a 'whif' in the 1st round.

    Caps top 5 prospects are Leanord, Cristall, Miro, Hutson, Iorio the fact that our 17th ovr pick doesn't crack our top 5 sucks. Simply a crap draft not counting the Thompson/Hutson stuff. Protas and Mateiko could be something but I think parascak won't play in the NHL

    • @eriktuomisto9112
      @eriktuomisto9112 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Explain to me why you think Parascak won't play in the NHL LOL. Man, send the Caps your scouting resume. He was 4th in draft eligible players for PNHLe. So yea, would love to hear what "insight" you have on this one

    • @patrickgarrity4209
      @patrickgarrity4209 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @eriktuomisto9112 yeah, the kid just turned 18. Everyone was so high on igonla and this kid had 20 more points. Zac Funk goes from scoring 30-60 points in a season. Hmmm, I wonder what was the added ingredient? I guess we just have to wait and see what he does next year. If he's able to. Put up numbers after losing some of his linemates, then I think it's safe to say the kid is legit. I think it was a great pick

      @eriktuomisto9112 this was the biggest swing they could have token he either makes it or doesn't alpt of people have my opinion and some have yours at 17th we left cole eiserman and took parascak and most had him early second rd to mid 2nd rd. It's gonna be a long shot

    • @Mcbikey24
      @Mcbikey24 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@eriktuomisto9112exactly, Parascak is a very hard working and intelligent player with tons of skill and upside, his skating and strength need some work but that can definitely improve and he will be a much more well rounded player than someone like Eiserman who only brings the shot and some physical play. Parascak could definitely be a TJ Oshie kinda guy and you absolutely take that at 17th overall if you believe in him
