- The Volkswagen travel assist light is a problem that happens with multiple VW vehicles. In due time I'm sure this issue will turn into a recall for all VW vehicles. While many consumer parts are on back order, this is a temporary fix that should solve their issue until its fixed for good!
This just happened to me now and thankfully your video popped up and showed me what to do.
Got the Tiguan 2 days ago… now it’s going off like crazy. Had to TH-cam it’s thanks for posting no wonder it was going off for her and made no noise for me. I keep my hand on top lol

Thanks for this dude! After numerous forums and discussions online you are the only one that explained things without being someone from VW. Mind you, I was at the dealership and they acted like I was insane while you could clearly see they knew about said issue.
Anyway, what I got from forums is that placing your hands on the bottom portion of the steering wheel and squeezing it mitigates the issue. I would still get it of course, but at this point I really couldn’t tell. Sometimes were just better than others. But what you just said could be correct as well.
Can I just say that it’s insane we are even talking about this when it’s VW who should fix this once and for all. Side note that online discussions say that even with the new steering wheel this error resurfaces in like a year.
One last thing is that presumably this issues is most common on top of the line R and Elegance models and it’s somehow connected to all the installations for all the quirks and assists working together. Mine is a 2021. Tiguan Elegance. No idea about the US, but here in Europe it’s by no means a “cheap” car.
Sorry for the long rant and grammar mistakes, just an angry European typing this off after my morning drive to work filled with “travel assist currently not available” beeps. 😅
No problem bro! Yeah, it's crazy, it should be a recall but unfortunately, it's not as of now. I recently got a new steering wheel so I'm not sure if it will happen again I'm hoping not. Volkswagen needs to slow down its production and start refining its cars more so we never have to have crazy issues like this in the future. I do have the most expensive Tiguan as well so that could be a thing too.

Man, You are my hero!😂 God Bless You!!! I have the same issue on my Arteon, and today i tried the method. No annoyisng sound all day long, hope it remains all week. At least i will know what to tell at the dealer.

@@lilly0303 nope. just need to get it fixed. Thankfully when i brought my car in, the car saved the errors, and they were able to diagnose it to a bad "touch" sensor, and replaced my entire steering wheel
I have a 2022 Tiguan SE R-Line black. I just tested the steering wheel placement and you’re 100% correct. Iit’s frustrating because I recently told them about the issue and they assured me that my car doesn’t have the steering wheel problem.
I have not tested the headlight issue yet, but I’ll try that soon.
Yea it’s definitely a common issue with that updated steering wheel… You should be good with the headlights I believe that happened because my vehicle was on display in a car museum before I purchased.

Thank you very much for the advice! I am going to test it out straight away today, I am driving a Golf 8R 2021 year model. Yeah, it's crazy that VW are turning a blind eye to this and acting like it's not a major factory issue... If it doesn't work out, I'm gonna try to code it out with OBD11, next move is destroying the speaker... I am just not paying 2000€ for a new steering wheel, without even knowing if it will permanently fix the problem, crazy...

I had the same problem with my Golf 8, model year 2020, after replacing the steering wheel 3 times the problem was solved. But I agree with you, I will never buy a Volkswagen again, too many software problems. Greetings from The Netherlands
Yes, Volkswagen is putting out too many variations of vehicles without properly refining their engines or technology. Glad you got the issue worked out!

Just make sure you place an order for a steering wheel with Volkswagen and stay on them consistently until they get you one!
Did replacing the steering wheel help the travel assist issue? They replaced mine 6 times and it was good for a few months, now it’s the ding is just my new jam..
It did, fortunately… 6 times is crazy I would demand for a loaner vehicle until they got that problem fixed completely. What type of car do you have?
the wheel knows where your hand is is because it is an capacitive wheel. So it detects your hand by small electrical currents

My brother, I had the problem intermittently. The travel aid sign would light up and go off several times a minute, but the last time it did not turn off for a month, as when I started the car the travel aid light would turn on immediately.
Head up to your nearest Volkswagen dealership asap you will need a new steering wheel!

You have to get a new steering wheel if you have this issue. A temporary fix would be to avoid touching the bottom of the steering wheel as there is a sensor that makes the travel assist light come on.
What year is your Tig, I'm getting this in my 22 Jetta SE
22 it’s not too late to change your pick I would recommend possibly an Altima, Accord, Mazda 6, or Camry… Trust me you don’t want a new VW product at the moment.

Thanks for the tip. VW do better! I hate all of this nagging, nanny gear. I won’t buy another VW. The dinging during parallel parking is insanely loud and constant. VW also automatically and annoyingly picks the same first song in ApplePlay any time it connects to Bluetooth. I had a 2010 VW CC for 12 yrs and enjoyed it. I made a huge mistake buying this 2022 VW Tiguan.
No problem, and yes the automatic parking is a joke I forgot to mention that, but VW is not what it used to be at all… I won’t be buying another one as well!
I did test this solution but sadly it did not work for me.
