I just want to tell you how much you have inspired me. You always have practiced Skating in one way or another. I started from zero at 64, couple months ago. Im getting better with my balance, skating well forward, but many skills I know it's important I still don't get. I know I have to practice now the best I can because one day I will not be able. The aging process will catch up with us all and in your case, health problems are not to be ignored. Do not stop. If you can, and I know it's hard for someone like yourself to slow down, but you still can skate if you go to a rink or to a sports court just to get that feeling of freedom. And complement with some weight lifting to make your muscles strong again especially the ones supporting the knees. A physical therapist can help you a lot. Please do not disappear. Continue your channel and keep us in touch. You are a great person who we value a lot. I hope to see you soon working to improve your knees and bring us good news about yourself.
Thank you! I'm not going anywhere, just trying to consolidate some and make better progress. I feel like not splitting skating days between the board and inlines will help me focus on the inlines and I am really happy with the progress on them lately. I am with you 100% on lifting weights. I have lifted consistently since I was a teenager, probably the only thing I have done my whole life, and the older I get the more important it becomes. If I had to drop everything, weights would be the last to go, that's how important I think it is to lift as you get older. Keep skating and having fun, that's what it is all about in the end!
I'm a skateboarder, and while I hate to see you stop skateboarding, I completely understand and I hope you can continue inline skating and the other sports you love for a long time!
Thats the goal, to keep active for as long as possible no matter what the sport. I'll stop short of shuffleboard, but hopefully I can stay active for a while longer yet!
65 years old I get it. Power to you, you are still getting air in your lungs and no assist from a battery. I finally figured out with great resistance I have to stretch everyday. My best wishes. Sell the dirt bike, I had to quit that after earning an earth science degree.
I hear you on the stretching, I fought it for years and finally realized I had to do it or stiffen up like a board, and much to my surprise, it actually does help. I have backed way off on the dirt biking, like you I earned my PhD in dirt eating many years ago, and in fact a crash in my 20's is the root cause of my current knee issue. I still love to do it with another of my sons, though I'm sure there will come a day when that's off the table too, just trying to push that out as far as possible.
Honestly, I caught my breath waiting for you to reveal which sport you are dropping and felt relieved that it's not inline skating 😁 The sunset in the video is totally beautiful, but I'm surprised that the temperature dropped so much in your area. I went inline skating today and it was between 39-42°F, but luckily no wind, so it didn't feel cold for skating at all ☺️
It has been cold (and windy) here this week, but in North Carolina we have a saying "If you don't like the weather, wait a minute" It's supposed to be cold here for the next week, but I know it will warm up again soon and I'm with you, as long as its not windy, the cold is not so bad.
That's tough to have to choose to drop a hobby/sport. I've been there and I still miss them, but sometimes they just don't fit in your life or aren't worth the trade off. Tough choices man.
As I mentioned, I have dropped a lot of things over the years for various reasons and I'm sure I'll change some going forward so it's all good, no regrets anywhere.
I'm in the same boat. I was a freestyle bike rider from age 13 to somewhere in my 30's. I'm 50 now and my body is jacked up from all the falls. I got into E-Motos now....granted you can fall, but the strain and chances of injury are less then spinning around on one wheel for hours. There is always an alternative. I'd recommend electric motorcycles and Ebikes to anyone...they really are great for the soul
I am also a mountain biker and have some friends who got into eBiking and love it. They have injuries that make riding a regular mountain bike all but impossible in our area and the ebikes have opened that back up and allowed them to continue with something they love. I won't hesitate to get one if (when) I get to the point I can't ride my regular mountain bike like I want. I would love to ride one of the electric dirt bikes, they look like a blast!
That was my intent originally and it was hard to keep making progress that way, I felt like I was losing ground on them both and my knee stayed sore all the time. Maybe when I was younger I could have done it, but at this point something had to give. Hopefully I can keep making progress on the inlines going forward.
I hated to drop the boarding, but it was just getting harder and harder to progress on them both and the board was really hurting my knee and affecting me outside of skating. Still love watching your progress, can't wait to see you rip that 8 foot bowl!
I have my vintage CD player sitting on some longboard wheels and I have an entire album of 70's photo's of me and friends on my backyard halfpipe. It will never be gone from my memory!
I've given up skateboarding so I can concentrate on aggressive inline as well. Personally I thought you were a better inline skater than skateboarding, like me too.
The skateboarding was a nostalgia thing, I have done it off and on since I was a teenager and love it, but in the end it made sense to drop it. Trying to do both was just hurting my knee really badly and I was making less progress in each than I wanted to. Now that I am down to 1 kind of skating, maybe I can make a little more progress.
Everyone has their own reasons for doing what they do. Someone jusr because they love what they do, someone out of curiosity, someone does it as a hobby, etc. Honestly, I was surprised by how much will, strength, and time you have for hobbies such as skating, rollerblading. For me, the main obstacle is time and injuries. I'm back to basketball a little bit, trying to dunk. Combined with a gym, chronic shoulder injury, spinal hernias, groin problems, it's all just too much for me to handle. Not to mention colder weather, even 15min worming up does not help. It's hard to keep temperature and rythm because body cools off much faster. So again injuries, injuries.. All i left to say is keep doin what you like and try not to do something just to keep the pace if you dont enjoy it. Had that sitation with skateboarding myself. Have good time with inline mr! Will drop now and then to see how are you doing 🙂
I don't struggle so much with time, but the injuries are really starting to take a toll on me. The knee as I mentioned is a problem, but like you I also have chronic shoulder injuries, arthritis in both wrists as well as other things that try and take me out. I work really hard to get around them all and stay active and that is the key for me. I always look for some way to get around the injury and keep going. Sometimes it means dropping something I love, sometimes it means slowing down, and sometimes it means changing how I do something. The main thing is to never give up. I can't imagine trying to dunk, at 5'8" the best I could ever do was touch the net and now getting a few inches off the ground is a feat. Good luck on that!

You started inline to skate with your son. That is the best reason to keep doing it.
You are right about that! We do have a great time together and our time with our kids is so short.

Yeah, It's hard to balance. It's been a while since I've been on the board. my goal was to do each twice a week, but that hasn't happened.

Maybe when I was younger I could have done it, but at this point something had to give. Hopefully I can keep making progress on the inlines going forward.
Heck I totally get you bro. If skateboarding comes with pain it ain’t worth it. I still enjoy the inlines footage.

Don't worry about what other people think just be yourself . Be happy in life :)
Some great nuggets of wisdom in this video, thank you for sharing.
Would love to see you don some big wheels and do some cruising.
Definitely have not given up on trying that, but for now just making it to the park several times a week is about all I can manage.
Please at least keep a wheel as a paper weight. Or a truck for hanging keys! Some momento.

So many good thoughts shared here 🙌🙌

All sound like good and valid reasons.
hey do what you like. it's all good. Your body is telling you something. You got alot other cool sports to do that don't cause pain
