In this episode we take a look at some facts, secrets, and history of Super Mario World. Super Mario World (also subtitled Super Mario Bros. 4 in Japan) was developed and published by Nintendo as a launch title for the Super Nintendo (SNES). Super Mario World is notable for having first appearance of Yoshi in a main-series Mario game, and receiving critical and commercial success. The game sold over 20 million copies worldwide (not counting rereleases or digital downloads), and is considered by many to be the best Mario game.

Yep this is why we find it so strange. Not because it's a "rip off" but because this video is also a bit out of character for DYKG. This is part of a minority of DYKG videos that don't talk about Easter Eggs or hidden content at all. I'm not grabbing my pitchfork or anything I just find it strange.

Super mario world has been a subject on forums since the early 90s... then this came out in the same week as beta64's video and used all the same research even presented with the same pictures and mock up art for the birds. I like both channels but saying both just happened by coincidence feels like a stretch to me.
Well both DYKG and Beta64 commented about this, and Beta64 says this was not a copy. He says when covering certain games there's always bound to be overlap.
Are people really that stupid? I highly doubt DYKG could copy Beta's video, rewrite a script, arrange to record audio, actually record audio, edit the audio, collect the needed videos, edit the videos together, render the whole video, and upload it to TH-cam in just 2 days.

FoxyWeed It truly is a case of bad timing. And let's not forget that they both get their information from basically the same sources. So if we want to get very technical, the Cutting Room Floor did it first.
I agree that the timing is bad on this, Beta 64's video was in the process for about a month and DYKG's was roughly a week, it's just the upload timing. If DYKG uploaded first, people would call out Beta 64.
I dont think barely anyone here is actually thinking they copied his video. But why not point out the coincidence?

Super Mario World came out before A Link to the Past. So wouldn't the lost woods in A Link to the Past be a reference to Super Mario World?
These comments are getting more and more idiotic, actually think for a second. These videos take absolutely ages to make, so there's no way anyone could have copied each other. Similar content? Well it's the same game geniuses, there's obviously bound to be similar things. Around the same time? Coincidences like this happen all the time, not just with youtube but things like Music as well. Yeah... So what this comment section is, is appearently people freaking out over an idea. So what people are saying, is that Nintendo made a platformer. Sega then also made a platformer. Thus Sega copied Nintendo. Now replace Nintendo with Beta64, Sega with DYKG, and platformer with video. That's the comment section from the time this comment was made.

Little Nemo and the boot are one thing. Gameplay with yoshi in super mario world is polished to perfection. They were waiting for the technology to make it that good.

A hack called SMB3Mix by Captain Southbird allows a fully-functional Yoshi to be ridden on NES hardware, so I suppose Ninty was wrong about that one :)
Also, the Super Mario World pirate port to the NES allowed it. For an even better example.

Beta64 recently released a video on Super Mario World--2 days before this video. The main criticism from some people is that DYKG is copying the topic and just rehashing it, which I believe isn't the case.
It's also worth mentioning that the info was presented in the same order as Beta64's video just to show how weird this really is.
