Oh no! Just bought a place in the south of France and a quarter of the property is covered in silver wattle and the slope just below it is washing away. Now I get it! Thanks for the explanation. All the more reason to eradicate it as best I can.
Thanks for sharing!! we have these trees in maui. They are fast growing but easy to cut. I have been using hte chips because they are nitrogen fixers, but now i know to a little careful before using them. THink ill let it break down a bit more or using in just certain areas.
Hi. I think you will find that the use of a legume to fix nitrogen relates to the plant's processes affecting the soil surrounding its roots while living, but I don't think that using woodchips from that plant will have any effect on nitrogen in the soil....If I have understood your comment correctly. Here on the Eastern seaboard of South Africa the trees have no natural enemies, and growing conditions are perfect. Trees in our drier regions do not spread, and a friend in Ireland has one in his garden and its seeds don't germinate (it cant spread)...so check out your local conditions...you may be Okay. Thank you for your interest.
great explanation of this problem
