Well, you've been talking about doing this kind of trek, glad you were able to accomplish it. We love ALL your content, all the time ! I think the number of cold water bass you were able to hook up on has surprised all of us.... maybe even you. I was pleased with your thinking about being around cold weather water. Accidents can happen anywhere or anytime. It made me think about my old Boy Scouting days (i was a scout, leader and supporter until several years ago), a lot has now changed. One of the biggest challenges of fire starting is to find dry enough wood to get it going. Case in point, our scout troop went canoeing on the Rockcastle river, Laurel Co. Kentucky on a November day (many, many years ago), As a leader, I had to take an unexperienced 10 year fellow with me. He wasn't able to always be still in the bottom of the canoe, and caused us to flip out in the cold water. The whole troop had to get out of the water and build a fire. Careful planning meant that I had a change of clothes and able to warm up by the fire. The young scout didn't heed previous rules and advice and hadn't brought any . He suffered that day. After that trip he never came back to the Scout Troop ! Sorry I digress, many memories. As always, please be careful . Pap Blevins
Atta boy, variety is the spice of life. Glad you got some healthier snacks. Good to see the dry storage bag. Put a small towel and a toboggan in there also. Congrats on the Bass and like you said just enjoy being out there. Thanks for sharing and have a Blessed Day.
A nice addition to your fire starter kit is a bag of wood pellets. If you can get em lit on a grate or in a rock bed they burn for awhile. I also carry a vegetable steamer caulender as a makeshift firestove/firepit.
Great choice for the maiden voyage of 2024. Checked out a little stretch of river and got surprised by some aggressive fish. Thanks for sharing the safety part. I have extra clothes, gloves and insulated face mask in my trunk for winter. We hit negative double digits this past week in Chicago. And the first aid kit came in handy when I split open my finger during a trip last year. Blessings brother
Thanks John for going over the "just in case" dry bag. I've been wanting to get out on the kayak this winter and thinking about what I would do if I took an unwanted swim lol. Great advice! And looks like you had a fun day fishing too! Always look forward to the next video!
As a whitewater kayaker who spends a lot of time in cold water, may I suggest two things? The first and most important is a dry suit. Wear synthetics under it, wool and fleece are great options. Anything but cotton. Treat the gaskets with 100% silicone (trident makes it in a small jar found in dive shops or Amazon). You could go for a swim with a much lower risk for emergency, especially when you’re solo. I have swam cold water in a dry suit, and can say that even in a dry suit that cold water will pull energy from you quicker than you might think. I don’t want to preach too much, but I do worry about the dangers of cold water. Also wet suits aren’t very effective due to evaporative cooling, so save that money. Dry suit is the way to go. The second one is if you’re looking for a bomb proof dry bag. Check out watershed bags. They aren’t cheap, but they stay dry, are very durable, and are made in western NC! There is a trick to opening them, be sure to look into that if you buy one, but it is easy to do. Take care, and thanks for the content you provide. I enjoy your less serious, more relaxed take on fishing. I burnt myself out years ago, but am slowly getting back out there again.
John to be honest until this year I had forgotten what makes fishing fun for me. And to be honest that is finding new places to fish or just a cool place to visit. And if I haven’t said it before thank you for putting the verses up at the end of each video. I like the content to be honest but the Verses are great.
John I fished on Lake Cumberland during a cold Christmas, and ice froze in the guides, and we had dip it in the water to clear the ice. Still we caught largemouth on a weedless jig with a chartreuse trailer. In the cold we had to use feel or we would never have caught them. It was really slow.
I KNEW I should have fished a couple of weeks ago when the weather wasn’t too bad. I’m sitting here now with 25-40mph winds forecast, and a cold front that will have temps in the single digits for at least a week. I’m glad you got out and caught a bunch. Nothing better than being successful during the tough times of the year.
I’m doing all the same stuff but can’t buy a bite. It’s my first winter fishing so it’s been tough going. It’s been two months of learning what not to do to catch fish in cold water. I did make it on the water with my kayak New Year’s Day. It was cold, even spitting snow. No fish but I enjoyed the challenge. Thanks for showing that they are out there and biting. That helps keep me looking for the next fish and/or fishing adventure.
Hello, My name is Dave fromYpsilanti, MI. My Boating friends call me Ford Lake Dave, because I live on Ford Lake in Ypsilanti Township, MI, and I'm a diehard Boater who clocks more pontoon Boating hours than anyone else who lives on this Lake. Ford Lake is a man made Lake that was created by Henry Ford back in the 1930s-1940s. The Lake is part of the Huron River system that runs through 4 or 5 different counties in Southeast Michigan, and empties into Lake Erie. I'd like to extend an invitation to you to come and fish this amazing River System. It has almost every fish species found here in Michigan, from Pike, Walleye, Perch, highbread Silver Perch,Trout, Bluegill, Crappie, giant Catfish, Gar, Tiger Musky, Large Mouth, and Trouph Small Mouth Bass. My Father and I love your channel, and your public display of being a Christian. I'd be more than happy to help you out and be a support boat for any needs you may have while here. We're not seeking to be on your video, but just to share what an incredible fishing experience you might have here. Regards, Ford Lake Dave.
That was a good winter day on the water! Wish I could still fish from a yak, but my back wont allow that anymore. Be careful out there, that water is cold!
It's easy enough to go for an unintended cold winter swim if you fish during the winter or do ice fishing. Make sure you can make a fire fast if you need to. Thanks for showing that.
Good stuff as always, John! Glad you keep dry bag supplies, too! I always keep a towel and change of clothes in my truck when I cold weather kayak; most places I kayak I am not far from the truck , shoreline or other people, but its always great to plan ahead and pray you don't need it! :-)
Enjoyed the video as always. It's great to show what you carry with you just in case something not planned may happen so others get an idea of what they may need also.
Awesome day and thanks for the video! Makes me wanna take my kayak out but the creeks and rivers are blown out right now bc of a LOT of rain lately. But I’m definitely gonna get out there soon 👍🏻 🎣
Glad to see you Brother!! I went out today after days of an unexpected cold. Unfortunately raining last couple days prior made chocolate milk, but still tried !! Thanks again 😊
Good day fishing ! Excellent video. I like your tip on that dry bag. Going to definitely make one up ! Also , I've only ever seen the water there brown !
You catch more fish in the winter Than I do in the Spring summer and fall. You just seem to be able to find fish wherever you go, John. Looks like the wind Wasn't blowing too bad. That had to make it better. Still a cold day. We are looking at single digits in Indiana also below 0. Wind has been pretty stiff here.
Yeah it's a weird time to catching bass, but I been wearing em out down here in GA...and big uns too. Don't know they biting so good but I don't mind.😊 Fish on bro.
Cold and wet is a killer. Hypothermia is no joke. Glad you carry some dry clothes and fire making kit. You might want to consider a bit more for winter but anything is better than nothing.
Long time watcher, first time commenter😊. Another awesome video John, thanks. Dryer lint is also a good fire starter just keep it dry and it doesn't take up any room.
You did a lot better than i did on my first trip. I went after perch and crappie and managed one of each but they were small. Gonna have to go after some bass next.
Just think a couple of yrs ago you wouldn't be fishing in the winter, but it looked fun, don't fight catching bass, that's the best besides crappie! I'm glad that you got some protection on getting wet if something happened, God forbid, I would throw a towel in there & maybe an extra pair if clothes & socks!👍
Your decision to start doing more cold weather, winter, fishing is really paying off on this winter trip. You're catching more fish, more often than many of your warm weather trips. Who would have thought it?
I’ve always wondered if you fished right next to me on the bank while I’m getting skunked if you’d be catching fish. Probably so. Did i mention I’m on a four skunk streak?
It’s plastic think about it you do that enough times you’re gonna poke a hole through the bottom of it I just couldn’t spend that much money on a nice kayak like that and drag it across rocks. I only have a $300 fishing kayak and I’ll pick it up off the ground and carry it where I need to unless I’m on grass and then I’ll drag it across grass, but no rocks no cement cause it was just tear up the whole bottom of it and you’ll put holes in it. Yeah it’s hard plastic but plastic plastic.

The self prepared part caught me off guard. I liked it. I do the same thing when i drive any distance in the friged north.

Best discussion topic on a awesome winters fishing video, was your chances to share safety tips, well done and received.

Dryer Lint in a ziplock bag makes for excellent fire starter.
Great video the fish were
definitely on the bite. I agree with your message and appreciate you sharing the video. 👍

Good stuff! Nice touch at the very end.
Awesome video! I keep a pill bottle of dryer lint for fire starter. Just a idea.
Nice to see you fishing on the creek in the cold. Good idea preparing for the unexpected.
WOW!Good reminder for me to carry a fire starter kit and spare clothes for cold weather fishing!!
Happy fishing 🎣 Thursday happy new year 👍🏼 nice bass fish
You may have forgotten your measuring board but you do realize there's a ruler on your paddle, right? LOL!
I think it has to be official for his kayak tournaments
Yeah but I'm not talking about official, just while making a video.@@rdk2323
It was cool to get to meet you that day, you sure wore em out for a cold day! Stay safe out there John!
thanks man, good running into you
Love the year round videos. Appreciate your channel!
Once again i liked the acustic guitar in your video. It looked like a good day fishing.
Enjoyed the video as always. It's great to show what you carry with you just in case something not planned may happen so others get an idea of what they may need also.
wow - amazing winter fishing
Awesome day and thanks for the video! Makes me wanna take my kayak out but the creeks and rivers are blown out right now bc of a LOT of rain lately. But I’m definitely gonna get out there soon 👍🏻 🎣
Glad to see you Brother!! I went out today after days of an unexpected cold. Unfortunately raining last couple days prior made chocolate milk, but still tried !! Thanks again 😊
That was a good little trip
Hey bud, just thankful that you survived Florida.
Good day fishing ! Excellent video. I like your tip on that dry bag. Going to definitely make one up ! Also , I've only ever seen the water there brown !

It’s never too cold to get out there and yank some lips! Great video John!
John, I love your videos! 27 degrees in Northern Illinois, 1/11/24. With snow! Takes me away from my weather watching you!
great video and great fishing!! have a good day and week! thank you for sharing.!!
Love seeing your great adventures. The pinworm would work great there.
I would add a small flash light to dry bag.enjoyed your video 👍
Great tip!
Cold and wet is a killer. Hypothermia is no joke. Glad you carry some dry clothes and fire making kit. You might want to consider a bit more for winter but anything is better than nothing.
I bet those rocks + trees held a little bit of warmth compared to the shallow water. If you've had any sun I would definitely think so.
Awesome day! I suck at bass.. I am a catfish guy. You inspire me to try again.
Dang, man. Puttin a hurtin on 'em.
Another great video John, the bass were on fire 🐟🎣🐟🎣
Looked like a great day 👍
Those bass sure were colorful 😍 😳 so cool!!!!
Long time watcher, first time commenter😊. Another awesome video John, thanks. Dryer lint is also a good fire starter just keep it dry and it doesn't take up any room.
Do you ever stop and look for lures on the bank or trees I do a lot in the winter time on Dale Hollow Lake
i dont think about it that often but i bet there were a bunch around there
The key rule to fishing is fish like structure. Wood is structure, therefore, fish liike wood.
You did a lot better than i did on my first trip. I went after perch and crappie and managed one of each but they were small. Gonna have to go after some bass next.
Feed in the Winter too!
What does this river look like today?
Great video man
Good action for cabin fever.
Are you going to get a crescent k craft?
maybe some parts in the future
Why was the water low ? Good vid.
every winter its lowered for flood control and stuff by the dam
Just think a couple of yrs ago you wouldn't be fishing in the winter, but it looked fun, don't fight catching bass, that's the best besides crappie! I'm glad that you got some protection on getting wet if something happened, God forbid, I would throw a towel in there & maybe an extra pair if clothes & socks!👍
You got that right! im glad i started making myself go out in the cold, it has been very productive
John what hook do you use to rig the Yum Dinger? I think I vaguely remember a video you did on it but can’t remember. As always, great content!
usually 1/16 oz owner blockhead offset
John what is a good low budget gopro John it one of the best thing about your videos is your personality and you love catching them all
Which ever one fits your budget. You can purchase a chest mount for your phone and just use your phone.
i would get a hero 9
My dry bag is packed like I planned to go for a cold swim with my clothes on. It’s happened to me more than once😁
Who else thought he would pour that Mountain Dew over the fire to extinguish it lol 😁
Stay warm
I like that life jacket! What brand is that?
old town
When you think it's going to be a bad day of fishing catch all kinds and when you think it's good day won't catch any that's fishing for me lol
Awesome
When it gets to cold we just drill a hole in the ice and keep fishing
i kind of would like to ice fish, but i dont have to worry about that around here
Hey good morning John
Morning!
Your decision to start doing more cold weather, winter, fishing is really paying off on this winter trip. You're catching more fish, more often than many of your warm weather trips. Who would have thought it?
thats something i have been noticing the last few winters, the good days in the winter are sometimes better than good days in summer
I’ve always wondered if you fished right next to me on the bank while I’m getting skunked if you’d be catching fish. Probably so. Did i mention I’m on a four skunk streak?
next one is the one you break the streak, at least you got to keep telling yourself that
@@CreekFishingAdventures i anticipate a bite every cast! Funny how i can do that for 3 hours straight…
Dear brother, have you considered vacuum sealed bags for your emergency clothes?
that would be good
good looking water
You spend like two grand on a kayak to drag it on rocks, blows my mind
the creator of the kayak has told me its built for that
It’s plastic think about it you do that enough times you’re gonna poke a hole through the bottom of it I just couldn’t spend that much money on a nice kayak like that and drag it across rocks.
#368👍🏻🛶 🎣🎣
That was a good day. 🛶🔥
