Problem is what team wants a $44m Defensive Rim protecting centre with the current salary cap constraints (Plus the team would have to put up with him Opting in or renegotiating an extension too).
Like maybe I could loosely argue myself to the Pels at most but i cant imagine a trade scenario where all parties walk away happy.

You addressed two major concerns with Minnesota right now (lack of shooting & Randle's bad fit with the team on both ends), but it's incomplete without also pointing out two things:
    - Mike Conley has regressed big time. Went from 11ppg/6apg to 8ppg/5apg and his shooting went from 45/44/91 to 33/35/90. He's the only "true" point guard on this team and if he plays horribly the entire offense grinds to a halt.
    - The defense completely collapses without Gobert on the floor, because without him Minnesota plays Naz Reid and Julius Randle as their two big men. They provide no paint protection and their rebounding is terrible.
Minnesota needs a legit point guard and a legit big man (preferably a Conley-lite and a Gobert-lite), but trading for their needs is extremely difficult because they're in the second apron. It's gonna be a long season for them.

The main problem with Donte is he is playing a role he is not that good at. He was really effective in NY cause he was great off the ball, which allowed him to be a cutter, and was mainly smart in terms of making the extra pass. In Minnesota he is being forced to be a playmaker and create his own shots.

  • @MaruhkatiGaming
    @MaruhkatiGaming หลายเดือนก่อน +21

With the current CBA, their only two choices were to either blow it up this year or next year. But being all-in as they were after the Gobert trade, they had to realize that running it back this year was their best chance for a title. They were contenders NOW - this was a time to worry about winning, not salary.
I think Connelly talked himself into believing that he could get a "competitive rebuild" out of this trade. The fit with Randle was always questionable, but with his basically-expiring contract, he saw it as a low risk "if it works, keep him, if it doesn't, oh well" type of move. Hasn't worked out that way. DDV was the piece he wanted to keep. He wanted DiVincenzo in free agency before the 23-24 season, and when Donte went off after Randle and OG went down, he surely thought of him as the one that got away. This made him the perfect mark for the Knicks to sell high on DDV. Prior to last season, he was a slightly-above-average, but not GREAT rotational wing. Regression was inevitable, though I don't think anyone could have expected him to be as bad as he has been (except for maybe Kings fans).
Another problem is that Finch has been a scheme mismatch for the roster ever since the Gobert trade. There's a way to construct a good offense with Gobert on your team (the Jazz were consistently able to take advantage of his screen-and-roll ability and hide his lack of other offensive gifts). However, the flow offense just does not work with this roster. It wasn't great even WITH KAT on it, and now that they don't have his shooting and gravity to cover up the lack of creativity and productive ball movement, it's become one of the worst offenses in the league. (Also, Finchy's rotation choices, particularly in the closing minutes of games, have been absolutely abysmal).

Naz was great at the 4 while Karl was out and he’s also younger. No he isn’t Karl but he works really well beside Ant at the 4. If you’ve been watching Naz doesn’t look as good as he did last season but that’s because rotations matter. Also, this trade was not made to win a chip this season. This was to build around Ant while he’s developing into his prime. Karl was taking too much up on the books for the long term moves they wanted to make. That worked perfectly for the Knicks because they are looking to win now.
My only issue is why not speak to Karl and Ant together to tell Karl what the ownership is considering. That would give him a chance to maybe take a pay cut or for Ant to take a pay cut. Especially with Karl being there for so many years and not requesting a trade at any point while they were a poverty franchise.

the original sin was thinking that Kat wasn't capable of playing the center position. If they wanted to experiment as a power forward they could do it at no cost since they had taken Kessler from the draft. I've been saying it for years: Kat, as we had also seen in the playoffs the year before, was ready to explode and dominate as a tactical center, similar to Jokic. Once Gobert was taken, it was too late, we were stuck with the salary cap and the transfer was inevitable.

You get rid of a guy that's shooting over 40% from deep thats also a true 7ft that can rebound and play solid defense as well, for a guy that's 6'9" and oft injured and maybe has 1 or 2 seasons with averaging double digit boards for the season. Also, the guy has never been efficient at any point in his career. He's always been a volume scorer and thats tough to integrate into a new team especially when that team has a ball dominant guard taking the bulk of the shots. Crazy how the Wolves don't even utilize Dante.. He was part of this trade for a reason, helping the Knicks be 1 game away from ECF last year, yet they bring him off bench and have him stand around watching the "face of the league" play hero ball....

Never thought that my Knicks could trade Randle, to any team... He's a very good player when he wants but got Embiid-like attitude and is a blackhole both ends of the court when he wants too... The biggest mistake was trading for Gobert then, when you have the chance to get KAT then Edwards as 1st picks, you just have to give them the max and get an organizer, an 3&D forward, a good rebounder at power forward and a good bench behind that...

Just from these few highlights it looks like Donte is falling out of his jumper. In NY he was landing and holding for a split second before heading back on defense, this year these highlights show he is basically heading back on defense when he’s still in the air. He’s probably just anxious in his new spot. He will fall in I’m sure, these guys are pros.

Trading Towns wasn't the issue. He blew hot and cold throughout the playoffs, and went missing against Dallas. The Wolves were ready to move on. Trading him for Randle , however, was an awful mistake. Anyone with eyes could tell you Randle is a deeply flawed player, a classic empty calorie scorer who doesn't belong on a serious contender. Surely there must have been a different trade package available from another team, or they should have kept Towns until someone made one, They still had time.

KAT did not disappear against Dallas. he averaged 21 and 10 in that series we all know antman was the first option in minnesota so when games went down the line, the plan was typically to get the ball to Ant. Not KAT. Saying KAT disappears in the playoffs is just major cope from wolves fans. 21 and 10 isn't disappearing. he literally averaged that in the season. On the Knicks, he is finally an actual 1-2 duo with brunson, not the 2nd option, so he is now getting way more opportunities to produce hence his numbers. The wolves are clearly going to miss his presence.

Three basketball players stand out as liabilities on offense. 1. McDaniels. 2. Conley. 3. Grobert. You can't start 3 players who all have trouble breaking the 5 point barrier even on good days for rack of them. All play well defensively but you will not win games when three of your starters have a hard time breaking 15 offensive points. Coach Finch missing this important fact and making sure these 3 don't play together ever...is very good start to this team winning. Gobert needs to play high post...never low post...he clogs up the area around the basket...do not let McDaniels shoot his horrible 3 point shots

I've yet to hear a convincing reason why we HAD to trade KAT this year. Glen Taylor is worth $3 billion and the luxury tax is a drop in the bucket for him. And most of the other 2nd apron penalties aren't even in effect yet. They could have ran it back for one more year with the roster that just went to the WCF and made a run for the finals. Worry about the 2nd apron after that.

We're blaming the timberwolves and not adam silver for adding a rule that messed up the roster they've been building since 2020? Average media logic. The wolves didn't make any mistakes. They built a finals contender while everyone said it wouldn't happen. Lamelo won ROTY over ant, everyone said the twin towers wouldn't work, everyone has been calling kat soft and saying he doesn't play defense since 2017, The rudy gobert trade was the worst trade in nba history. Yet they made the conference finals in one of the most comp conferences in nba history. So what's the media do about being wrong when speaking on the timberwolves for the last 5 years? They point and laugh because adam silver added a bogus second apron during the teams peak forcing the timberwolves to make moves they never would have made without the second apron. Kinda funny how the league didn't give a second apron warning several seasons in advance to accommodate the teams that were previously built with legal contracts that fit rules prior to the 2nd apron but you know who i am right i dont upload videos everyday and have thousands of viewers so im just some asshole

Wolves fans will talk trash about Towns D but he was playing out of position at PF the last 2 years against smaller quicker PFs. Let’s say he’s a bad defender. But at least he tries. Randle doesn’t even try playing defense. He lets guys go by him. And that’s not even including the turnovers. 8 last night! What PF gets 8 turnovers in a game?
