Received my BMPCC 4K these days and .... it's just awesome! The footage (esp in RAW) looks so fantastic. Very happy with it. But it makes sense to add some gear like a rig, SSDs, SSD-holder and lots and lots of batteries ;)
BTW: The camera fits just fine on the Ronin-S - just use the mount adapter that is delivered with the Ronis-S ... it's in the small pouch with all the cables stuff. Put that one the normal mounting plate and the Blackmagic on top and it balances just fine.
Aha! So No need for that adapter plate for Ronin-S users if you still have that plate. Thanks EMBE!

I work for LanParte's distributor in the US. The offset plate from LanParte offers a one piece solution where the Ronin-S one will require attaching the adapter to original mounting plate and the setup is prone to have twist issues as well as a slightly crooked horizon.
But yes, you will be able to make it work with plate included in the Ronin-S and both solutions balance just fine. When balancing with bigger lenses, LanParte will soon launch a counterweight system

I shot a commercial with this as the b-cam but nobody could tell the difference after I matched it with a chart.
I think that Parker Walbeck did that a while ago.
Cool to see other people still using the 80D in 2019. Such a simplistic, yet awesome camera. And cool to see that you upscale it to 4k also...I thought I was the only one who used that trick.

I've only ever used the 1080p BMPCC, and I love it, I don't really wanna change cameras. But now it's getting more harder to use seeing as it has been discontinued, so were compatible SD cards and other accessories. However, the new 4k version is just a little bit too excessive. Thank you for the review, I'm getting the GH5.

I’ve totally been blown away with the image quality of the Pocket 4K but agreed about the SDI, battery life, and articulating screen. Those things aren’t deal breakers for this price point because they can mostly be worked around.

YESS I made it! 17:39 Love the video by the way, I personally prefer something that has a flip screen and decent auto focus. But if I was strictly a filmmaker it would be lovely, you can't beat it at 1300$.
I wonder how much a fully rigged out BMPC4K costs fully rigged out like he showed in this video.
@@Chikimefuiki It's going to be quite a bit more than 1300$, but you almost always have to rig a camera anyway if you're a filmmaker. But yeah if you are just a vlogger or a youtuber it doesn't really make that much sense to buy this camera.

I own the URSA Mini 4.6K so this camera peaked my interest. I’m not a fan of the micro 4/3 and battery life. Using it on a gimbal is absolutely brilliant. Both my Raven and Ursa use EF lens so is ridiculously difficult for me to invest in other lens options that don’t work across the board for me.
So this is the best camera to record birthday videos.

sweet, i asked for a 4k camera review on your $1000 camera video last week and you jumped right on it, just for me!!!
As soon as you busted out of the paper, I thought Looney toons. The the rest of it happened and I was loving it. I use the Viltrox EF-M2 speedbooster on my Panasonic G7. Works and looks great, and got it for cheap (under $140). The metabones hurts the wallet hardcore but the Viltrox and Commlites are definitely budget friendly

Awesome video! Just one question. You mention grading footage from the BMPCC, but since the Canon 80D doesn’t have a flat profile I assume you have the look dialed in the picture profile? Could you share those settings with us ‘cause that footage looks amazing 😀.

Use whatever least gets in your way of putting out great content - if you can get a good workflow with the black magic though, it looks awesome :)
I do wish it had a neutral density filter tho. And I wish Zeiss and some other renowned lens brands like Leica and Cooke would make some dope Micro four thirds lenses. I want WIDE baby! I have the 0.64x metabones EF speedbooster adapter (I returned the 0.73x one for this, that wasn’t wide enough for me). But it just doesn’t feel right using it with my Zeiss. I needed to purchase lens support which not sorta blocks my Nucleus M motor..I have to look into other lens supports, the small rig one doesn’t cut it. Too bulky. Without lens support for me there is too much movement when I use the focus motor.. and my torque is r crazy or anything, Iran just the nature of the adapter I guess :(
I have no idea why that small amount of footage was 35gb. I shoot raw on that thing all the time and it takes a while. I usually do q5, so that helps, but even q0 it takes a while.

Why couldn't they do something about the battery problem? It seems it was a known ongoing major problem but they didn't address it with the 4k.
the BMPCC4K makes the 80D's image quality look like that of a toy camera in comparison. I enjoyed looking at your face much more than with the 80D.

My biggest problem with the Pocket 4K is that it appears to suck for shallow depth of field even with a speedbooster

Nice microphone... But you are too far away from the SM7B to make it worth it. A dynamic mic would be better for standing that far away. Use the sm7 for a podcast... 🤔

Weird review of a cinema camera. Your negative points don't make a whole lot of sense. I'll explain. BlackMagic made something that is ready to go, right out of the box, but also designed it to be extremely modular.
Need an inexpensive cinema camera that uses consumer lenses? Open the box. Here, we've even thrown in an extremely awesome video editing suite.
Need long battery life? Here, there's a two-pin you can plug into.
Need to see what you're shooting from the lens? Here's a full sized HDMI, plug in whatever monitor you want.
Need good audio from your camera? Here's a mini-XLR that provides phantom power for whatever mic you want.
Need a nice, smooth shot? The camera is light enough for nearly any gimbal (with some mods to make it fit)
Need to record a lot of footage?? Look, there's a USB-c that you can plug a cheap, consumer 2TB drive into and record all day!
Your argument that the battery is weak and poorly placed is only valid if you somehow have the money for all these huge camera builds, but choose not to use a V-batt and the dtap to 2-pin.
The battery is only there for the most portability possible in a cinema camera. I will agree, though, that the omission of a SDI port sucks a little. Certainly, BlackMagicDesign COULD have made a cinema camera with an articulating screen. They COULD have chosen to use the Sony F or NP style battery for all day shooting. And they COULD have designed it with cheeseplate all over it. But they made a choice that film makers know that the camera is just the beginning of the rig. And they chose to make these design choices to keep the price accessible to literally anyone getting into film making. A fully spec'd out iPhone Max costs more and doesn't come with a full version of Davinci Resolve.
When you buy a RED, you buy a brain, and you have to spend at least that much again to actually make it usable as a camera system. And buy those RED cards that are as expensive as an entire BMDPCC4K camera. So yes, it's not a perfect camera for everyone. But it can be. You just have to make it what you need it to be. The image quality is certainly there. For anyone coming from a DSLR environment for film making, it's definitely a step up. Just not for Vlogging. Get a Sony RX100 for that.

This camera definitely does require a rig, but for $1300(which is $1000 once you count in the fact that you get $300 of Resolve Studio), you really can't complain.
In regards to failures - yes, Blackmagic does have an interesting reliability history, but it seems like they've improved a whole lot now. That green issue was most definitely an outlier.
If you want to shoot ProRes for your videos, consider shooting ProRes Proxy. No, seriously. It still *crushes* whatever comes out of any DSLR or DSLM camera, and the file sizes are tiny in comparison to larger, more "pro" levels. If you're properly lit(which you are in a studio), once uploaded to TH-cam it'll look absolutely identical.
Bias warning: I own an URSA Mini 4.6K and love shooting with it.

You can just shoot in 1080 for your talking setup and shoot LT. This is fine for TH-cam and there is enough room for grading. Especially when you just go for a rec709 look for TH-cam. If your worried about being in focus just go to ISO 1250 (which is clean) and close the lens down. Their is nothing in the background that would make nice bokeh anyways.
