    Mir fällt der stark unterschiedliche Modul der Zahnradpaare auf. Was war der Grund für diese unterschiedliche Auslegung?

    Nice gearbox! Why the big differences in gear tooth pitch? And why the helical teeth on the lowest gear (only)? Does the pawl system mean no freewheel is required at the rear hub?

      1. This achieves absolutely even gear steps.
      2. This prevents howling noises at high rotation speeds, because it also has disadvantages and is more expensive to manufacture, it is only done where it is necessary. 3. A Freewheel in the rear is still required due to safety reason as due to the fact when you restart pedaling you would have to catch your rotating chain, this would feel like a big slag in the freewheel.

      @@PinionChannel I assumed the helical gear was there, apart from the noise aspect, to provide an axial preload to the gears on the countershaft, which are, unless engaged, freewheeling on the shaft and may chatter if just allowed to spin without any axial location. This would, however, introduce an efficiency penalty as the gears are rotating at different speeds and their edges would slide against each other. I wonder if @PinionChannel can clear this up for me & anyone else who might be wondering about this.
