Very nice to see the Monon trail of Carmel. So cycling infrastructure is slowly built in the USA. Saying Hi from Utrecht city, the Netherlands.

It’s really fun to hear your voice Brandon after only seeing you on twitter. You have such an amazing narrator’s voice. So fun to see your route to target. The Monon trail is amazing. Are you rocking out with the studded tires on the Urban Arrow all winter?

Thank you, Allen. I appreciate your comment. Yep, I do have studded tires on the UA, and this is actually the first time I've ever used them. I never had them on my WorkCycles while riding in Minnesota winters. Now that I'm in a more freeze/thaw climate, they are proving to be useful with the added element of ice.

Nice ride Brandon, thanks for sharing. After you get a few more snow rides in I'd be curious to see how you deal with all the salt on your bike...Heated garage and rinse after each ride? That stuff is so destructive to drivetrains, bearings, well pretty much everything! Thanks again

As a rule, I've always rinsed off my bike after any winter ride. Fortunately with our old apartment setup and now our house, we have that ability.

Is the Monon Trial an ex-railway line? I noticed what looked like telegraph poles on the left hand side as you were riding along.

Yes the Monon Railroad used to run from Indy to Chicago

Hello from Shakopee MN! I’ve been “car lite” the past year or so riding to work, the gym, and smaller grocery trips. I’ve been pretty happy with Shakopee’s bike network, for US suburb standards that is. It’s been a mild winter so it’s been easy so far. Going to see how long I can ride for. Last winter, I stopped around mid January since the painted bike lane I often use had piles of snow so no longer usable.
Also, I’ve watched your old MN videos and thought it was such a coincidence you lived in MN, as I mainly found your channel through interest in Carmel.
Question for you, what motivated you to move to Carmel from MN?

I'm glad you're able to make riding and car-lite living work there. I certainly understand the cold of January in MN. It can be absolutely brutal and I recall that I had to slow way down with biking for errands around that time.
Leaving MN wasn't difficult. I'm not actually from there. We lived there for 7 years in various cities, but when the pandemic hit, we had the ability to move anywhere and since we were worn out on international moves, we found out about Carmel and moved here because of the infrastructure and relative closeness to half the family a state away.

Are studded tires damaging to the trail, sidewalks, streets?

Wow, that’s a nice cargo bike. Honestly, I was not aware they made such an ebike. Did you get it locally?

It's an Urban Arrow. They can be bought at many places across the US now. Google their website and do a dealer search for wherever you are located.

Every city needs to be a bicycle city. Speak up for bicycles in your community.
Bicycles, ebikes, electric cargo bicycles, robo taxis and escooters are great options for last mile, short distance travel.
Cities need to do more to encourage people to ride bicycles by providing SAFE, PROTECTED BIKE LANES and trails. Every adult and child should own a bicycle and ride it regularly. Bicycles are healthy exercise and fossil fuels free transportation. Electric bicycles are bringing many older adults back to cycling. Ride to work, ride to school or ride for fun. Children should be able to ride a bicycle to school without having to dodge cars and trucks. Separated and protected bike lanes are required. It will also make the roads safer for automobile drivers. Transportation planners and elected officials need to encourage people to walk, bike and take public transportation. Healthy exercise and fossil fuels free transportation. In the future cities will be redesigned for people not cars. Crazy big parking lots will be transformed.
