    Thankyou! Your a godsend! I always ask my mother in law what is the name of this dish. Everyone looks at me like a freak when I tried to explain to them.
    Seen jok Guen !Is a dish I thought had disappeared from the Yumcha scene. It was a dish that apart from the Phoenix claws that made always see yumcha as a delightful experience. But 20 years ago that dish was served with some marinated ginger and garlic soy sauce .The stuffing looks the same . Back then The stuffing was mostly wood ear mushroom ,watercress, bamboo shoot ginger and some greens. Today I see that it is served in a sweet sauce that looks to be ginger based. This gem of a find and I have you to thank for that.

    That's a little unusual, the 鮮竹捲 (bean curd roll) that I'm used to usually has minced pork and wood ear in the filling. I'd also mention that the Ma Lai Gao is steamed rather than baked like a traditional cake. Along with the classics (some of which you didn't mention) I also like the fried whitebait (not sure if it's available there) and Nor Mai Gai 😀

    OMGOSH the washing of the yum Cha bowls and cups etc hahaha so true - my parents did it when I was young - I think it’s cos they know in China the restaurants don’t really take cleanliness highly so they wash it themselves.

    • @BarryJTaylor
      @BarryJTaylor 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JaniceFung no I went to Rylestone ..... which is a little scenic country town near Mudgee ..... we drove there from near Gosford. Was so interesting to have a little dumpling/tea house in a little old out of the way Aussie country town ( google "Yum cha Rylstone" ) Then you wont think out the back of Macquarie centre is so far lol.
      Around Gosford we used to go to Yum cha at Erina Fair .... but I think they stopped during covid ... havent checked if they are doing Yum cha again yet. They had the best Spicy Deep Fried Squid Tenticles .... which I think you were describing when you talked about the calamari.
