We go on a cheap eats food tour with a challenge of seeing what we can get with $35 (Australian dollars!). Burwood has become a well-known suburb for different types of food, in particular Chinese food from different regions of China. We try things like pan-fried pork dumplings (生煎包 sheng jian bao), steamed bao buns (baozi), pineapple buns (菠蘿包 bolo bao, Cantonese/Hong Kong style), spicy cumin lamb skewers (in Xinjiang style, 新疆烤串), cold skin noodles (凉皮, liang pi) and a Chongqing style jelly dessert.

I love what you're doing educating and promoting the awesome authentic Asian food we are so lucky to have in Sydney. When I was a kid being the only Asian boy at my school, things were bleak, and Asian food was put down by everyone. I get quite emotional and proud that now your generation is putting it right, power to you Kevin. 💪🏼🙏🏼

Yoooo Kev, Keep up with the videos! Just couple things thought I'd let you know. Pineapple buns are not meant to taste like 🍍, the crispy skin on top are meant to look like them. Xian cold noodle is actually made of rice not flour. The "tofu skin" is actually specially made gluten. 😜 Me and my partner lived in burwood for ages. Good to see you come to the neighbourhood.
This whole time I thought cold noodle was made from wheat flour!! Cool to see it's rice too. I love that gluten thing 😂 and glad I'm getting an education on pineapple buns now LOL! Thanks so much for watching, love your old neighbourhood 😁

Love your videos man, live near Burwood and head down most weekends (got my brekky baozi today) but haven't tried a few of these, can't wait to give it a go.
On the Liangpi, it's actually the gluten from the noodles in there not tofu. When they split the starch out to make the noodles, the gluten is used as well, cut up into cubes or strips.
My missus lived in China for a few years, and I visited 5 times in a 18 month span, and we both loved Liangpi there but couldn't find it here (well, good version here). In Burwood Harvest Foodie has a pretty good version for $8 takeaway and it changed our lives finding it, so absolutely can't wait to try out Xi'an thanks to you. Good Yunnan food after Uyghur is what's left to check off our desire list over here, would love if you knew any of those. had some okay Uyghur food here but yet to find decent Yunnan. Did Lakemba just last week too thanks to you. Keep up the good work.

Its called Pineapple bun because of the way it looks after baking it. The top part is made from egg yolk flour sugar

I think that xian eatery does have the best Biang Biang noodle in Sydney. Also you need to try the meat filled flat bread they cook to order in the tandoori in the walk way in the middle of ‘Burwood Chinatown’ Building. I have to eat it every time I’m in Burwood - it’s crispy thin and you put a bit of chilli oil after - it’s not a cheap eat because it’s so thin but it’s worth it.

I love Xian Eatery so much!! One of my all time fave spots in Sydney for sure (and super accomodating for vegetarians, you can ask them for a special copy of the menu that has all the vego options marked). I've never tried their cold noodles but now I need to!
Also worth hitting up Top Best Bakery - they have a really interesting spongy 'honeycomb cake', kind of a treacle flavour but really the texture is what makes it so unique, it looks like honeycomb meets swiss cheese.
Oh how good!!! I didn't know they catered for vegetarians like that!

The food here at xian eatery is good but customer service is one of the worst if not worst.i have waited for over an hour for my food when the shop was not even that busy ..and also very hard to explain and get an answer ..

Regarding the pineapple buns - there is no pineapple incorporated into it. It's all about the cracked, golden brown surface that is why it is called that.

Tea Spot at burwood does amazing tea! They brew tea in individual servings like coffee and they have some interesting flavors too!

I've lived in Burwood for 14yrs and the food is a highlight. Best restaurant is Canton Noodle House opposite Westfields. Their hot n sour soup is the best

Dam dude my local area, Most places I knew but some I'm yet still to try. I seem to always go to Ashfield for dumplings but asking myself why now lol. Within 15min south,east,west of Burwood we are spoilt for choice for great food. Definitely going to get to these places soon!. Great work to you and the team showing off the street.
