1993 was the craziest year when talking about scoring. The top 10 were so good that there were not a single favorite among them. During the competition the top 10 positions kept fluctuating back and forth. Puerto Rico was on the 7th place during the second round of competition. It was the evening gown that placed her on the 4th position when the finalists were called.
I do notice that one or two contestants usually dominate the semifinals but in 1993 there was no clear favorite, even the Czech Republic and Finland was in the top 6 for a moment. I always thought Dayanara flew in under the radar. She really caught the judge’s attention during the top 6 question segment and she became their choice afterwards.
There were some very biased judges ...Alonso favored Colombia at a ridiculous level and butchered all others, Brazil in particular...Cuevas was all over the place...Daniels also hated Brazil but didnt have a clear favorite...

Casualmente Venezuela venía de salir del primer intento de golpe de Estado que hizo la entrega al escenario político del desgraciado de Hugo Chávez. En ese entonces ni lo logró y ella allí expresó que Venezuela no tenía otro camino que no fuera la democracia. Bravo por Milka y que ironías hoy en día. Después que esa peste llegó al poder y el país se dividió tanto, fue imposible que ninguna candidata pudiera responder correctamente, sin nervios otro tipo de pregunta de ese calibre.

Poor Miss India, you can tell by the look on her face that she knew she blew it. Even Dick Clark's reaction is evident. She just wanted to disappear after that response. Miss Venezuela's answer sounded a little too rehearsed, as if she'd given that speech a hundred times before. Miss USA nailed the question and deserved a lot better ranking than she got. Same for Miss Austrailia. Miss Puerto Rico also gave a detailed answer though she was a bit excitable. I like Miss Colombia but her answer was mediocre but she put it over with her personality.
Miss Puerto Rico's self effacing reaction when she ran out of time for her answer endeared her to the judges and that is when I think the judges started to take notice of her, as all through the night she kind of flew in under the radar and then came out swinging toward the end when it really counted.

Deben recordar que no existen contestaciones correctas o incorrecta, en la parte de preguntas se evalúa la serenidad, la seguridad al contestar, la sustancia de la respuesta que esté bien expresada, pero sobretodo la personalidad que transmite al contestar. En este renglón Puerto Rico , Venezuela y Colombia lo hicieron excelente. Mujeres bellas y con personalidad.
