the guy looking in the trash was probably looking for plastic bottles since you get some money if you hand them in for recycling
Yeah, it's like in Disco Elysium
Not only plastic bottles but also aluminum cans and glass bottles
Yeah, K-Markets are everywhere. It's a huge ass chain managed by Kesko.
Fun fact, K-Markets used to have increasing numbers of K's in their names depending on the size of it, Citymarkets being the largest with four K's, but since the medium sized supermarkets ran by the name of KKK-SuperMarket it weren't the best look for the brand, especially when American tourists started to point those out haha
After that Kesko phased that way of showcasing the shop sizes and now they all are just K-Markets, K-Supermarkets or K-Citymarkets.
Yeah, other big chain is S Group. Back in the days when Kesko used KKK-SuperMarkets, S Group missed the opportunity to name their shops with S-letters. We really should have had the opportunity to choose if we do our groceries in KKK-shop or SS-shop.
I was on a train to Helsinki. I saw so many places along the track, mostly K-Markets, Prismas, K-Citymarkets which I had seen on your videos and regocnised, ”hey, I’ve seen this place on All Over the Map!”.
Love it! I hope to experience the same thing one day soon!
There's basically a grocery store oligopoly of the K chain and S chain in Finland. M market is really rare
there is an abandoned m market in hanko
It's cool when you see them, like an easter egg
16:49 saw nummelas k market in the thumbnail and instantly clicked lmao I always go there after school
Same I live here lol
K-markets are staple in Finnish urban and rural landscape. They also feature quite a lot of autonomy to tailor their services to meet the needs and demands of their local communities, especially when talking about local suppliers such as local farms, orchards and livestock farms. Many also function as posts and/or bus stops in smaller and/or dying communities. their mothercompany Kesko also puts quite a lot of effort into building good quality food-and-delicacy service counters on bigger Citymarkets. Although they cannot compete in terms of prices, they and their beloved rival S-group form the largest grocery shop chains here in Finland
Definitely not me screaming at the screen going "STOP LOOKING AT THE SWEDISH NAMES YOU'RE NOT GONNA FIND THOSE ON A MAP".
@1:02 That is most likely an apartment building. We call that type of building "luhtitalo" here, not sure how that would translate to English.
That was cool! I have visited 3 of those K-Markets! The first one in Routio (Imatra), The Käpylä (Helsinki) and Nummela...
I love that you don't just focus on finding the place but also share your observations about the surroundings.
I have been to the K-Market in round 2 many many times. It used to be our go-to place to buy lunch when I was working as a tram stop maintenance person in Helsinki (basically emptying the garbage bins on tram stops).
17:57 that's way too funny 🤣
Yeah - at first, I was like this is no good, but then realized kids doing it for the camera!
M-market should not be in this game, it has nothing to do with K-market. M-market is much smaller brand than K-market, there are about 50 M-markets and over 800 K-markets in Finland.
i've never seen an M market
I've never heard of a M-market damn
Oh lol! First time bumping into your channel, and I recognised the view. Not exactly my regular place to visit but I've been there once or twice as I had a friend living in that area, ca 30 km from where I live now.
I played with your play along link first. The Helsinki one I was first like "ooh, Swedish, that narrows it down!" And then after finding a roundabout with tram tracks I quickly realized I knew exactly where it was as I lived just some kilometer from there for two years!
Helsinki: You really need to look for the Finnish name (Koskela in this case) in Finnish-majority municipalities because that's what Google Maps probably show.
Mulch is used in Finland, of course. Several plantings by streets in Jyväskylä have plenty of mulch.
Nummela is the main centre of Vihti.
Info on the name "Koskela"/"Forsby":
"Koskela" means basically 'place by the rapids', and it is a very common toponym in Finland, mostly used for houses/farms. 'Rapids' is "koski" in Finnish. Swedish "Forsby" is also a name of several places by rapids. "Fors" means 'rapids' and "by" means 'village'.
In Helsinki (Swedish: Helsingfors), Forsby (Finnish: Koskela) was first named because it is by the rapids Vanhankaupunginkoski (Swedish: Gammelstadsforsen). Helsinki was originally founded by the rapids, and that is why the Swedish name is "Helsing_fors_", kinda like 'Helsinge rapids'. "Helsinge" is the old Swedish name of the parish, which is much older than Helsinki, it is "Helsingin pitäjä" in Finnish. The municipality of Helsinge was called "Helsingin maalaiskunta" in Finnish, until it was renamed "Vantaa" in 1972, and Vantaa became a town in 1974.
Then for example "Forsby" is the Swedish name of the village of "Koskenkylä", which is in Loviisa formerly Pernaja. It is common for names to have a dissimilar form in the other language. Another example is the Swedish form "Brändö", which is "Palosaari" in Vaasa and "Kulosaari" in Helsinki. Both mean basically 'burned island' as does the Swedish name.
Great informative post. I always figured mulch would be something the Americans invented that really has no purpose but to sell people on something. The place by the rapids - are there any whitewater rafting or kayaking spots in the region?
@@alloverthemap23 Not really. Except maybe in springtime when there is a lot of water going through the rapids.
@@alloverthemap23 As said, there are unlikely to be kayakers at Vanhankaupunginkoski as there is little water most of the year. The words "koski" and "fors" don't imply that the rapids would be large or there would be very much fall.
It's wild, that second k market, used to be my local k market back when i lived in Käpylä
K-Market, K-Supermarket and K-Citymarket are all managed by Kesko. They are all over. I think they even have one in the Helsinki Vantaa Airport.
No K-market at Helsinki Airport. I wonder why. Their rival Alepa is at the airport.
"Tie" means street so if you see something like (17:37) Ojakkalantie, it's a street.
It was so funny to see the K market of my village here
Yes im from Finland and i went to K-market the weekend you posted this lol
I'm an American who's lived in Finland since 2010. I haven't traveled all that much outside my home province so it's always cool to see the places I've been pop up in these games.
I live in a city you've expressed interest in visiting several times! If you have a business email or other way to contact you (I don't have Twitter anymore) I'd be happy to talk about what that transition has been like and give some recommendations for what to do.
There used to be multiple tiers of K-markets. Bigger K-markets had more K:s. Biggest on was KKKK-Citymarket. KKK-supermarket were most rare but still a thing 😂
There's definitely old mulch next to the road where you're talking about it around the bushes and trees
The first one actually seems quite new based on the logo.
This was the day when I instantly knew one place for the video. Kauhajoki 😅
I went to that thumbnail K-market today, and i played geoguessr at night. Couple hours later this video gets recommended. What the fuck?
I ask this on behalf of every Finn, why? :D
😂😂😂😂
Because Finland does much better here than at the Olympics.
