Kärsämäki, Turku: The church of Maaria (St. Mary's Church) is a medieval stone church from 1440s. Maaria was a parish and later a municipality until it was merged to Turku. Nearby is Pyhän Katariinan kirkko (St. Catherine's Church), which is about the same age. That was the centre of the parish of Kaarina, until the area was merged to Turku. The municipality of Kaarina still exists with a new centre east of Turku. Furthermore, there have been archeological finds in Kärsämäki (first mentioned in 1363), Turku, from the stone age, and there are remnants of graves from the Roman age (100-300 CE).
The tower in Kuopio is the Puijo Tower on the hill of Puijo. It is a water tower, and you can take a view from there is also a restaurant in the tower.
Well played! I made a classic mistake on round 3, didn't look at the compass carefully and clicked to the wrong side of the mall.
3:12 Something like "Old Tampere Road" or "Old Road To Tampere", because it has "vanha" prefix meaning "old". That was old road from Turku to Tampere before highway/motorways were built. In Tampere you can find at least (west side), Turuntie and Porintie... So it is common to call road where it goes. :)
3:39 Those are called "Soviet Concrete Blocks" due their color and that those were typical housing blocks built back 70's / 80's. Also here in Finland you can find those boring looking grey blocks.
Being an FSL (Finnish as a second language) learner, Estonia(n) is both fascinating and really trips me up. It's like someone asked me to draw Finland from memory.
You had the Kuopio ski jump in one video - I went there for a friend's bachelorette party years ago where they *rappelled off the top*. It wasn't even the first time in the friend group they did this. I got harnessed in, got one leg over the rail, and burst into tears. Completely froze and had to be pulled back onto the platform 😅
If you ever get to do some touring, Raahe is an easy distance for a day trip from Oulu. It's a cute town with a neat maritime museum. And last I knew, good Thai food.
1:08 I didn't recognize the Prisma, but as soon as I saw the church I knew where we were.
You should check out video of Prisma tour. It's in English. You have been near that Kuopio Prisma, time when you played the Hospitals of Finland
I visited Raahe a number of times in the 90's. Quite a nice little town. The maritime museum is worth visiting, like someone already said. Back in the Age of Sail, Raahe used to be a seafaring town of local fame. I haven't been there since then, so it must have changed a lot.
That area of Kuopio has been under constant development for _years_ in one way or another. University and polytechnic are both there. I live nearby.
There's a big discussion going on in Finland on how we are going to beat the Americans, Chinese and the rest in the Los Angeles Olympics. It's not entirely clear yet how, but a plan is brewing. A lot of good ideas have already been thrown around. There are historical ties between Estonians and Finns: "Ethnic groups of Europe (1-2022)" and "A short history of Ingria/Ingermanland". More recent history: "[Baltics] Estonian War of Independence", "Being a volunteer in the Finnish army. ENG subtitles" and "Brief History of Ingria and the Ingrian Finns". During the Cold War there were some attempts to mend the connection, which was lost during and after the WW2. Regarding, Finland is sometimes referred as the most American country in Europe. In the 60s there were concerns in Finland that Finland was getting too Americanized by American culture. Also K-kauppa's commercials and Väiski's meat counter played a role during the Cold War as a window to the West for the Soviet Estonians: "The history of Viking Line, part 1: The start", "The history of Viking Line, part 2: The 60's and 70's", "What Did Soviets Think Of The Finnish Tourists in Leningrad?", "Original Sokos Hotel Viru - check into the legend", "Goldspinners trailer 720p", "The Twisters: Why Don´t Somebody (live 1980)", "Icarus Films Disco and Atomic War - Trailer" and "K-Kaupan mainos - Väiskin lihatiski". The Baltic cruises has an on-going link to the Caribbean cruises: "The Cruise Industry Was Changed FOREVER by a $750 Million Dollar Ferry", "Icon of the Seas - Vesillelasku" and "ICON OF THE SEAS | Maailman SUURIMMAN risteilyaluksen lähtö Meyer Turun telakalta".
Another stupid mistake by me, went too far south in Kuopio round, lost 1 point.
@2:22 Tampereentie = Road to Tampere. It's pretty common practice in Finland to name roads based on where they're going, and that Prisma was named after the road to distinguish it from other Prismas in Turku.
Hi I'm from England watching utube in kotka Finland
I visited the fourth Prisma two weeks ago so I knew right away
Holy, the first one i recognised immediately as Turku, only a few km from me
TampereenTIE. Last E is pronounced like E in start of Empty. Not like TII. Which you launch golfball from. Same applies to everything that ends with E.

Good hint is to specify that so that "ie" in Finnish is always pronounced the same way it's pronounced in Spanish word "sierra".
Right, saying "tee" (English pronunciation) is one of mine peeves that "All Over The Map" does. Another is pronouncing the Finnish letter "y" as English "long i" as in "like"...
