    the extra room in that stuff sack fits perfectly with the sleeping pad, plus their air pillow as well ;-)

    I have one of these and I have tested it in cold conditions (0-2 degrees) .Used on its own you can definately feel the cold coming into your sleeping bag. So I put a thin reflective foam mat underneath the UL80. Unfortunately, this didn't seem to make much difference. So I then tried putting the foam mat on top of the UL80 and sleeping on that. This seemed to work much better at the expense of a little comfort and I think I now why. The UL80, although very comfy, is very thick/deep in comparison to other inflatable mats and the outside cold air seems to get into it through the sides/edges alot easier due to the larger surface area.
    Anyway, thats what I found out. Its a really comfy mat but get a thin foam mat to put on top of it in cold conditions and you will be fine.

      Did you try putting the foam matt underneath the UL80? Maybe that would work without sacrificing the comfort.

      What foam mat did you put on top? I was thinking about getting the decathlon Trek m100, but that would add another 210g

    Hi Dan
    I've been using one of the UL80 mats since summer last year and find it really comfortable. It maybe not as warm as some of the big brands but at a fraction of the price, it's a great mat. In colder weather I just put a silver emergency blanket underneath.

      I know it's been quite some time since you commented, but perhaps you could tell us how your opinion holds after some time of using the product.

  • @shabingly
    @shabingly 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Probably the most comfortable thing I've slept on in a tent.
    The quoted R value's I've seen is 1.6-2, but I've slept on it just above zero degrees and it was very cold. It warmed up a lot when I moved the reflective Highlander jobber we (and everyone else) uses from under the pad to on top (bag on top of that).
    Deffo really good from late spring to late summer, imo. Anything below 2-3 degrees I'd think again, but you pays your money and you makes your choice.

    I've got one of these. I've used it a couple of times in summer. I'm an 18 stone chunk and found this mat to be the comfiest I've used.

    by far and away the best bit of camping kit i`ve ever bought!! , camped for years and years with broken sleep patterns , cricked neck , sore hips etc (you know the score!) first trip out with this £40 matt i slept straight for 9 hours and only woke up when my bladder was screaming at me!! as others have said it needs a reflective matt underneath to stop cold seepage from the ground and the exped schnozzle works a treat and fits inside the stuffsack with the matt

    great review. I have used it in the filed for 6 wildcards. on my 7th wildcard. it slowly went down and woke.me up and I blew it back up. I just threw it in the bin. my Klymit matt is still going on strong after 3 years of wildcamping. It is such a shame about the trekology matt. it is so comfortable. Same as my sea to summit pillow actually failed at the outlet and inlet valve. the trek ology pillow is going on strong after 8 uses. Maybe it is my body weight or.a micro hole from debris from outside the tent. Others may be OK with this matt. but thermerests do fail shown by Paul Messener. . Thank you for your honest reviews .

    Good video, mate.
    After two nights wild camp, sent mine back. Along with their ridiculous trekology pillow. Freezing cold mat, even with a foam mat underneath. Curve makes no difference. Strap on pillow where the straps ping off and pillow refuses to stay on the mat. Slip ‘n slide... bought a Synmat 7 and use a rolled up puffa. WORLD of difference.

    Ive watched quite few of your videos over the last few months but this is not much of a review you didn't even sleep on it. The question no one is really answering is do you stay warm when using it in colder weather also trecology don't give it an accurate R rating or temp to help people decide.

  • @guitarhiker4449
    @guitarhiker4449 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    They do now make a trekology 30 liter pump sack for this very pad. Highly recommend a pump sack so you dont pass out before you get onto the pad...🥴😴lol nice review sir! Hope it serves you well. Hike on!

    "The estimated R-value is around 1.6 to 2" - from the Amazon page, so if you don't want the cold ground to come up, you'll still need a foam mat underneath.

    I bought one last year and slept on it 2 nights and didn’t like it. My wife tried it for a night and she didn’t like it either so we gave it to our daughter and she really loves it. They must’ve sold loads last year as everyone was talking about it in Facebook groups about how good it was but as soon as the weather turned a bit colder there were lots of comments from people saying the cold was coming through and they were uncomfortable with it. It’s a 3 season pad though and if you use it for 3 seasons it should be fine.

    That is fantastic as I'm bang on 6'3. I found that a lot of camping mattress companies do a regular sized mat then a large and they are over 200 pounds but aren't available in large as there is a shortage in Materials to make them. Getting them delivered as well after they have been made. Import charges and so fourth.

  • @robmartin4927
    @robmartin4927 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Had mine since july, at first i almost fully inflated it and found it too hard and a bit uncomfortable. I now only inflate it so its quite floppy and i can easily push it down to the ground in the middle. When i lie on it, because its so thick, it doesnt bottom out and i find it follows the contours of your body and is much comfier. The other bad thing about fully inflating any air mat is that when you put your weight on it theres no where for the air to go so that puts extra strain on the seams which is a common reason why some mats fail.

    I have used this matter and is so comfortable. but on my dartmoor camp at a legal campsite. it failed. this is after maybe 5 wildcamps. after looking on the Internet and you tube there have been so my faults with going down..some with the valve. or pin prick punctures. So gutted because it is so comfy. I am curious if it eventually happens to you.

    I had the model before this one, and just found it way too slippy for me. I now have an Exped SynMat 9 LW, yes it's much heavier, but I'm at that age where I need comfort, so find it worthwhile carrying the extra bit of weight for a guaranteed good night's sleep.

    I am 1.83m and 96kg so some air does leak in the night, which is a shame. I think it is the valve. Tried to find the leak using water and soap but it was undetectable. Returned to Amazon and was offered a refund. I didn't repurchase since the price had gone up £5. Blowing up is also a chore: really leaves you giddy and breathless.

    its a very comfortable mat, however my first one developed a leak after 3 uses. Trekology were very good and sent me a replacement, but unfortunately the replacement has developed a leak after 2 uses. I believe the problem could be that I weigh nearly 16 stone and the mat simply failed under my heavy weight, either that or they just aren't robust enough. It really needs pairing with a reflective mat too as it isn't great at heat retention. Going forward I'm probably going to look at spending a few extra quid on a Thermorest

    Not a bad looking mat that. You can see the curves your talking about too. Shame its only water resistant.

    Had it for a year. 2 holes later and lost the little nib that stops it from deflating without the cap on.. Apart from that very comfrortable.
