Yeah, it's a pity I just glossed over Continuous Dream Mode, like that. I could have at least mentioned that CDM doesn't do away with Slumbers altogether - it just provides a way for you to skip Slumbers you don't want to do (by paying a penalty), after revealing them.
Between this and Oathsworn and Emerald Flame, it's like you've been snooping around my house and reading my diary! :D Thanks for the excellent overviews!
@@adventuresincreativesoftwa6283 it's just refreshing to see someone who genuinely loves Etherfields. I have nearly zero complaints with Wave 1, and it's likely my favorite game of all time. It's elegant and ambitious and messy and beautiful. I just wonder how I'm going to fit both Etherfields and Oathsworn under my gaming table at the same time! :) Though it seems like Oathsworn at least will be pretty easy to pack up, so maybe that settles that?
@@TheGlassesPush Well put - Etherfields is all that, and more. And having your home invaded by Oathsworn monsters is a good problem to have! My own copy is SO close to arriving, I can already hear the screams.
Many thanks for this. Excellent and informative I fully agree on the original game manual, which I thought was an excellent 'reference' rulebook, but was simply missing a simple 'getting started' guide to ease players into the excellent tutorial. Thankfully others filled that gap via documents and the app, with AR later producing a similarly ideal video. I think quite a few internet 'content creators' couldn't see that the problem wasn't what was *in* the manual, but rather that the route into and through the tutorial was absent. If they were really on the ball, they would have called that out specifically. Likewise I did appreciate Rahdo's later videos where he makes a properly informed argument of why some of the criticisms that led to continuous dream mode being created, may be problems that players have brought upon themselves by avoiding save / awakening, and ignoring the upside of slumbers. Perhaps due to Covid lockdowns, it appeared that more people played Etherfields solo and left the game constantly set up, than was anticipated. That also links to some of the vehement criticisms of the board from solo gamers, who expected the board to be ideally designed for solo / 2P play, rather than AR's attempt to bring equality to 3-5 player games. Unfortunate that both weren't catered for, but some of the complaints came across as very self-centred.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts - you make some really good points. BTW, the rule supplement for Continuous Dream Mode even includes some suggestions for getting the most out of Slumbers. So I think Awaken Realms would agree with you too.
We use the original game manual for anything we want to look up. The new game manual is too hard to find information in, and appears to be completely lacking some rules.
I highly recommend NOT using the dumbed down world maps. Levelling and discovering things in slumbers is just as satisfying as the main quest mission. Taken nearly a year but me and my buddy have finished the core game and I am in still in love with it (to the point my buddy got me a copy for myself!)
Funny how you mention that the 'highly polished' 1.0 version then get's upgraded for free with the 2.0 version, while in reality the 1.0 version is pretty much unplayable (in my opinion) and the 2.0 fixes this to a certain degree. Just my (and many others' opinion ofcourse). Other than that, amazing video as always.
There's no chance they jigged about with the board layout, was there? That physical piece was my only gripe of an otherwise fantastic experience (slumbers included).
Interesting game board layout. I've just received my copy of Etherfields (2.0) and the board is not like yours, in fact it is so badly set out that I'm not using it. Your board set up makes much more sense and looks very useable. Is it the original 1.0 board or have you obtained it from a different source?
The video shows both my physical game board (same as everyone else's) and a horizontal board (digital file only, released by Awaken Realms, and downloadable from BGG). Some players have had the horizontal board printed on neoprene, but my budget solution (not shown) was to print just the Dreamscape part of the board on A3 paper, and fold the top of the board under.
@@adventuresincreativesoftwa6283 Many thanks. I did find the AR digital file on one of the kickstarter updates after I posted the question - yes, I should have taken more notice but it was a long time ago. Thanks for your prompt reply.
Although they have no official plans (and are still working on translating & delivering the current campaign), I wouldn't be surprised if they eventually decide to do a reprint - with some additional content - a few years from now.
Thanks for the video. It helped to get an idea of 2.0. Would have loved to also get a quick explanation of the pro's and cons of CDM.

An excellent and clearly presented overview of of the new rules vs the original. Thank You!

very clear & professional, good job
insanely good production!! great job
Clear and concise video, thank you!
Excellent! Thank you so much!
Thanks for the feedback. :-)

OODE-Out Of Dream Experience, I assume. For when you want to return to your body.
Of course! Man, I was scratching my head over that one. Thanks.
I have wave 2. I am just so overwhelmed with it... Thankfully your video helps. Man what is with this game?! It's beautiful but so painful to play.
Haven't got the game yet but, in other games I've 'saved', to get over the chance of forgetting things I take photos.
Yep, my phone camera has saved me many a headache.
Yeah, it's the 'unwritten hack', only occasionally mentioned in rulebooks.
great video

Great Video.
I KS back when it first came out and got the split shipping. I wonder if we will also be getting some updated stuff?
Yes, definitely - they're sending the 2.0 envelope of goodies to all backers. Enjoy Wave 2!
Why is Deliverence still a thing if you can just skip Slumbers with 2.0?
Great vid. I stickied it to Etherfield's sub reddit. :) Give us a shout if you do an unboxing or anything! :)
Thanks!

Cool,
I missed the original campaign...
So do you think Awaken Realms will relaunch a new campaign on Gamefound with those new rules?
Thanks 🙂

In the ISS vanguard Latepledge Manager you can Add Etherfields.
Maybe you can "lateplege Etherfields" this way.
Didn’t know Korg was a board gamer.
Yeah, I'm kind of like the leader, on this channel.
where is the web app? I checked the websight and there isn't anything there.

@@adventuresincreativesoftwa6283 Honestly, I hope they create a full pc version like Cephalofair Games did for Gloomhaven.
