EGS has been fully released for over a year now (or is it 2 years ... i don't remember), though i think it still should be in early access because of the number of bugs in the game. Some bugs are there for many years. Don't get me wrong, EGS is a fantastic game with a lot of potential and there are some very good mod's as well.
When you are over cpu, your base is just a little bit less efficient. The more over cpu, the more inefficient. A little bit over cpu is fine, but if you're more the 20% over cpu ... well ... the base get's very inefficient. Switching a device off has no effect on the cpu usage and efficiency of your base. However, if you haven't enough generators to create enough power, then generators will take damage and "go boom" if you don't do anything about that. To use less power, you can switch off devices.
We had this problem when we went over on CPU the generator couldn't keep on then it started taking damage. The panic it caused was pretty funny to bad it didn't get clipped.
Wiki says : "It was released via early access on 5 August 2015 by Eleon Game Studios." DMG says: "It's very early access..." 😏 You just played a 7 years old game, mate. I played this game on and off over the years and was always amazed by the exaggerating slow development speed. But still... I hope to play a finished version some day... maybe in fifteen years from now, in my retirement home? I'd love to, because secretly I still love this game like I did since day one. And so It is by no means "very early access", it is "very slow development".😝

good to know, it does feel unfished. I can tell it has come along way since I last played about 3 years ago.

Sorry just doesn't feel done to me, but good to know.
Do you know how to set up a furnace and/or deconstruct or?
you need an input box and output box. You can set it up in the machines UI. There are also prebuilt ones in the steam workshop already setup.
Bug fest, never fixed but DLC available for purchase.
