I think the Pelicans preferred Murray to Trae Young for a few reasons: 1) He's on a much more affordable contract. The Pelicans are already expensive and will only get more so. Dejounte will be making only 17% of the cap in his final season. That's a bargain. 2) The asking price for Murray is probably lower than Trae. Also, with his salary being cheaper you don't have to send out as many players to match salaries. 3) Murray at least has a track record of being a good defender. The Pelicans' identity is defense. 4) Murray is an easier fit on offense too. Trae is extremely ball dominant. You want the ball in Zion's hands as much as possible. Murray's improvement as a catch-and-shoot player has to be encouraging in that regard. I'm definitely concerned about New Orleans' big man situation going forward though. This trade hard-caps them at the 1st apron. Future roster moves will be difficult if they're not sending out big salaries like Ingram's.

Also mikal is on a way cheaper contract than dejounte.
The Pelicans have to be excited they completely fleeced the Hawks with this deal 😅. The combination of late stage capitalism and being an Atlanta sports fan is going to drive me to do unspeakable things
The Hawks belongin Atlanta what is the decisions they make
They go from losing in the play in to losing in the first round
They about dum as the falcons
NO has to get rid of Brandon and CJ
Lakers Tax is real
I literally can’t stand the Hawks how can they sell so bad
It could be worse. You could be the Clippers lol
@@ColdHoops I think Portland probably the worst
@@TheBlackFish Portland have draft picks all their draft picks, barring 2025 lol. They don't have any 1s rounders next year
@@ColdHoops Yeah but all they do is draft Mediocre guards

lakers fans in shambles. Bro this rob pelinka tax is crazy other gms dont like him
No one wants DLo Rui or Gabe Vincent
If this what Murray got in return and reports saying he more valuable than Trae then what a Trae trade package look like
Three first round picks
As a Lakers fan..... FFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU----------------
Y'all got a decent shot at Trae Young if thats the package their okay with getting for DJ
Bro, you should be happy. You got Bronny and didn't waste draft picks on Dejounte Murray. You should be happy....
@@DaintyBroom2233 I hope so but why would ATL trade their best player in 30 years? Imo they should hold onto him and tank for draft picks. If he starts playing really good, just bench him and take the inevitable fines.
@@scottland906 because Trae wants to win and doesn’t wanna be stuck babysitting for the next 10 years, he’s asking out I can guarantee you that, if be very surprised if he’s wearing a Hawks uniform this season
Lakers Tax is real
As a Hawks fan im fine. I like Nance especially for his defense and 2 first are fine. DeJounte isnt viewed as an elite defender anymore which turns him into a mid-range merchant with high level passing
"Isn't viewed as an elite defender anymore"
So you're telling me Atlanta traded for Murray for nothing? You can't make this s* up 🤦
@@ColdHoopshe was an elite defender in san antonio but his defense started to fall short while in ATL. so basically, yes ATL traded for him for no reason. failed experiment
@@jaykasame SMH
@@ColdHoopsI think it's more like the perception of him became wonky because he can't be a sole defender, he's still a great defender but like any other non center players, need help. Even centers need help but are more able to do it on their own, people viewed him as a fix to a far bigger problem than they thought they were dealing with. The hawks defense needed more than just one extra guy especially considering capella has been mid defensively. Not bad but mid.
@@diablogaming8095 AJ was MIA all season. Idk if it was injury or off court issues. And Johnson got hurt too. Last season a whole was a wash tbh
Hawks got fleeced both from the Spurs and Pelicans lol. Glad my Lakers didn't cave to them demanding Reaves.
The pels need to keep bi trade cj and vj need to go. Put a true point guard around bi and Zion cj is not it
Ingram as he is isn't worth $50M that's what he wants and that's why the Pelicans aren't going to keep him.
Great deal for ATL! Daniels is an approximation of Murray, makes 30M less, and you get picks. Sucks the first trade was so bad, but this is a good recovery!
Comparing Dyson and Murray is one of the crazier things I’ve heard today.
@@matthewweih7890me too and this is coming from an Atl guy whose actually happy about this trade.
@@matthewweih7890 one is obviously way better, but they play the same way. If you don’t think Murray is great, might as well find someone who can play that role, get a few assets, and use them on another position
@@michaelpatalano9884daniels doesn’t fit Murray’s role lol only thing he got going for him is being above average at defense. Terrible scorer and passer
As a Pelicans fan who likes Dyson, he's nothing like Dejounte.
At the defense you can make a case, since Dyson is really good, but offense is not really close.
Dejounte can create his own shot, is a much better 3 pt shooter, mid range shooter(I don't think i ever saw Dyson shoot a midrange), can finish at the rim, shoot free throws, is a better playmaker... he's much better than Dyson
This hawks front office got to the ECF and forgot how to act
Different F.O..
@@MrTerrell966 makes sense bc the hawks are tripping rn
I will never understand how Dejounte's impact on the Hawks was disrespected to this high a degree. The dude had like 4 game winners for us just last season and improved into a solid three point shooter which he was not in San Antonio. You're telling me we couldn't have got Mikal Bridges value for him? They're highly similar players except DJ is just better. He was far better than I could've ever hoped and I was optimistic about the trade two summers ago.
Bridges is an all around better player than Murry what do you mean? Bridges has higher fg% 3pt% and a much better defender.
Bridges skillset fits more on a contending team. He doesn't need the ball to make an impact, better shooter, & way better defender
@@TheCman183 I'll give you he's a marginally better in both of those categories, but Dejounte is a better scorer, passer, rebounder, clutch shot maker, transition attacker, and can do all that for more minutes per game than can Bridges. The ONLY argument you have is that he possibly fits better with New York, but to say he's a better all around player is laughable.
@@winter9242 This is a better argument than the other replier's. I still think the Knicks are crazy for giving up 4 first rounders and a pick swap, and I still think the Hawks are delusional to have given up DJ for so little. The difference in their respective values is no where near 2 first round picks.
@@anb8946 you've also got to consider the team situation though. Is it bridges' value worth those picks? Hell no I agree with you with that but from the knicks' perspective, they're going all in with their core to push for a title since they're a piece away from truly contending while atlanta seems to be a big believer with dyson Daniels development and they also want to tank esp with the upcoming cooper flag draft. Also mikal is on a way cheaper contract than dejounte.
The lakers could've got bro for that package
We don't want D-Lo
They demanded Reaves and I don't want to give up Reaves unless it's for a significantly better player i.e. a bonafide All Star.

Herb Jones (may start over CJ)
Trey Murphy

NGL Pelicans got a squad! 👀
I’m not mad at this at all as a pels fan
The Pelicans have to be excited they completely fleeced the Hawks with this deal 😅.
In essence this was a huge pickup for them they really needed a point guard and Murray fits that bill to a tee with his scoring passing and playmaking and he still a pretty good defender.
That also allows CJ to go back to being a SG and he doesn’t need to handle the ball as much
All in all great move by the Pelicans and for the Hawks yeah they got fleeced big time but maybe Dyson Daniels can unlock his true potential if he has full command of the offense with the second unit
You think they’ll start murray, herb, Murphy, Zion, and Jonas? Bench CJ?
@@Austin-l1j Nah if I had to guess most likely Herb is probably going to go back to the bench
@@jalenjohnson0339 that’s unfortunate CJ is making to much money to sit on the bench i guess and I was projecting that based on if they also traded Ingram.
@@Austin-l1jhonestly it'd best for CJ to go to the bench and be a great 6th man with microwave scoring plus good playmaking
Guys, the Pelicans fleeced the Hawks. Remember, Dejounte was one of the best defensive players in the league in San Antonio. Pelicans winning it all! Trust bro....
I hope you’re right lol
he is not that defender anymore
He learned bad habits off Trey
Even if they get to the finals the celtics will crush them in 5
@@snakesupreme that’s not how basketball works nor is that how you spell Trae’s name so i know you didn’t watch enough Hawks games to know Trae was a better defender than Dejounte for much of the season
