There were not enough minutes for Donte if Donte and Hart were both going to be coming off the bench. He has a chance to ball out and earn the big contract he deserves. Big Ragu will be missed, but I wish him the best in his new home.

Last season, for the Wolves, Gobert actually has biggest impact on lineup net rating (regardless of who was playing with him) whereas KAT doesn't have much of a good impact when he is the one playing the center position - Wolves saw that AND they saw that KAT's 50 million contract would give them no flexibility in the future. Wolves added Donte, one of the best role players in the league on a very cheap contract for his production - so they have a bunch of young 3 and D guys around ANT (McDaniels, Alexander-Walker, DiVincenzo). Randle is a bad fit, but Wolves have contractual flexibility to move him if things don't look good since they are not over 2nd apron anymore, if this Knicks fit doesn't work out they are fked because they can't change this roster aside from minimum contracts.
They don’t want to pay KAT 210 million over the next 4 years. They have to play Ant and Golbert 40 mil a year for the next 2 years. Randle only has one year left on his deal. They got some legit talent and a draft pick. And ANT is only 23. They need to keep building so that the team picks when he’s 27-32. KAT doesn’t fit his timeline.

I get the move from NY's perspective. They played well without Randle, they lost Hartenstein and Robinson is recovering from injury. Bridges and OG should offer enough defensive versatility to cover for KAT's questionable interior defense. Losing Donte stings, though. RIP Nova Knicks (2024 - 2024).
As for Minny: Donte actually might get a lot of minutes. Randle next to Gobert sounds... questionable. But let's be real: They traded him because they would have run into serious cap problems next year. Randle's contract is much better than KAT's from a financial standpoint.
