This is fossil hunting as it really is. Great location and the hope but not expectation of finds. So many videos set false expectation that every trip is full of great finds. The magic is in the exploration and the possibility of a great find under the next stone. Really appreciate the video i was due to be there a couple of weeks ago but couldn't make it.
Thanks Mark, yes I spend many days walking back up from the beach empty handed. But it's a real thrill when you finally spot something really nice just laying there or pop it out of the nodule.
Looking to visit the area at the weekend with a 5 and 7 year old. There are a few different beaches recommended - Do you think Runswick is a good place to start? We've not been before.
Seems like you’ve got a real talent for the camera. I especially appreciate the mood you create in your videos with music. One of these days I’ll make a visit from the colonies and try my hand at Jurassic fossil collecting. Thanks for the videos in the mean while.😁
Really enjoyed the video , I like how you have a steady hand with the filming, it’s great to scan the rocks looking for fossils as you look, nice one👍🌴😎
So much seaweed, my garden is desperate for seaweed - you live in such a bountiful place! I guess it must be irritating to not find much...but wandering down the beach can't be all bad
Thanks TJ, and yes the shale preserved ammonites often will break when you try to extract them. Also This site is a site of special scientific interest (SSSI) so you're not allowed to hammer into the bedrock, unless the slab is already loose. I only collect 3d ammonites preserved in nodules because they display alot better.
@@ForgottenFossils What a dream - I'm hoping to get a dog in the coming year and can't wait to bring them collecting. Really enjoying your videos. I discovered the cache of Yorkshire fossil channels a month ago. Wonderful!

Runswick will be the best beach for you. Saltwick bay is also a great spot.
Thanks - appreciate this@@ForgottenFossils
I can smell the sea air and feel the wind. What a great place to walk and discover. So good for health, mind and hobby.

How do you identify which loose rocks to hammer? Any tips for a beginner would be welcomed.
Is there a reason you do not try to remove some of the nicer ones from the larger slabs? Like the one at 8:15. Nice video. Thanks for posting.

Wow well spotted. That's one of my shih tzu's. They're always wondering what's so interesting when i'm on the beach fossiling.
