awe I'm learning so I can play with my son also....Look at us cool moms lol
My partner and I learned to play because our son wanted to play. Now we're hooked, it's so much fun.
Agree - great video - I’ve been buying booster boxes for my son out the wazoo
@@micahhalpert5886 so addicting haha. And then building decks with the random cards and shit. Too much fun.
Around 3:35 when you said our basic cards down I was like “well what if you don’t get one” and then you answered it! Way to get into details and really get into the explanation made it way better! Thanks!
Of course happy to help!😁
Papa 🚸 to make a longer period Pokemon 😲 wow nice nice nice nice nice nice nice nice nice nice idea 💡💯 to be upgraded to a week or so much for your query
I’ve been collecting Pokémon cards since I was a kid back in the 90’s. Never learned how to play till I watched this video. Thanks for the quick and simple breakdown. Now I can teach my kids and play with them.
Happy to help hope you enjoy!😁
@@TrainerTim1 were you go.
I’m 39 and never got into Pokémon growing up. My daughter just turned 8 and she’s been getting into it. Never too late to learn! Thanks for the vids!
That's awesome! It's never too late to start! 😁
I've been trying to learn how to play for years. Since sun and moon first came out and you have been the only youtuber that I actually could understand and follow so well! I'm gonna try to pick up a rule book so I can remember all of the directions you turn the pokemon.
Happy to help!😁
Totally new to Pokemon (my 6 yr old is just getting into Pokemon so I have to learn !) Ok so this the first Pokemon video where I actually learnt some basics!!! Bit them extras at the end BLEW MY MIND!
Happy to have helped!😁
I finally learned how to play the Pokémon battle game I first got into it when my brother gave me some cards and then I started collecting them and now I can use them thanks!
That's awesome happy I could help!😁
Where can I find people with pokemon cards and play them?

thank you so much for this video, the kids at the summer camp i volunteer at are obsessed with this game and now i can play with them. also i find it really helpful how youre talking calmly like a normal person instead of energetically screaming into the camera like most other tutorials
Haha I'm glad I could help you participate with the kids at your summer camp! 🏕 Keeping it calm is my forte😁 No need for screaming lol
Thanks a lot! Your the only youtuber whom I could understand properly!

I am in confusion... Isnt Manectric weak to fighting cards and should therefor get double-damage from Makuhita?
Over all insanely good video and great way to explain.
I haven't had a pokemon card battle in YEARS, but my little brother has requested that we have a battle today. I made my deck, but needed a refresh on how to do battle! thanks for this video 😊
Happy to help! 😁 Good luck!
Really like your vids! I love how smooth and slow you talk, instead of loud and obnoxious haha. Makes it very easy to listen and pay attention.
Haha, smooth is exactly what I'm going for. I'm glad that made it a more enjoyable experience 😁
Came here to refresh my memory on playing to play with my son, it's so cool to see so many other dad's are doing the same thing 😁.
Thank you for the informative video.
Happy to help!😁
Thanks for this video. I've been around longer than the game has and even as a kid when it first come out I wasn't interested. Now I have 4 kids 3 of which are crazy about the cards but don't know how to play so here I am at 38 trying to learn to teach them and to enjoy it with them. I'm thankful for any legit help I can get! Keep up the good work bro!!!
That's awesome! I'm glad I could help you play the TCG with your kids!😁
Thank you so much for dumbing it down! As a kid I wasnt allowed to play pokemon and my mom would freak out and throw the cards away. Now as a 24year old woman, I was like, you know what, I'm actually going to learn this year🤣
That sucks that you weren't able to play before but I'm glad you have the chance to play it now! I'm happy to have helped!😁

Happy to have helped!😁
Ty for the tutorial. I don't know how to play (same with my brother's and dad), so we were going to watch videos. We've watched 5 videos so far, this being the best.🙂
That's great! I'm glad mine was the most helpful 😁
Thanks for the video. Haven’t played since I was a kid and my daughter is now into it.
Glad you enjoyed!😁
This is the first video that makes sense/ explains stuff. I’ve been trying to learn how to play with my boyfriend for a while. I’ve also been collecting cards too! Thank your for the video!!
Happy to help! 😁 Hopefully you both enjoy!
You are a lifesaver, this is exactly what I was looking for!! I can’t wait to play, thank you so much :D
Happy I could help! Have fun! 😁
I just bought a couple of level 1 beginners decks and a couple of level three decks to play with my nephew. Thank you so much for your video. After watching it I feel like we can finally play correctly!
I’m beyond excited to play correctly hahaha
When he was smaller, I used to buy random packs and we would open them together to see who got the best pulls. Afterwards, because neither had a deck nor knew how to play, we just played “reveal the pkm and whoever had the pkm with more hp won the round” 🤣
Thanks for this video. I played MtG when I was a kid and my son has started wanting to play Pokémon. I'm glad to be able to start this new hobby with him and hope we can have years of fun with it.
That's awesome I hope you both have fun playing! 😁
Dude your underrated! This was so helpful! I know how to play now, Thanks!
Thank you! I'm glad to hear you found it helpful!😁
My brother and sister in law bought their first packs of cards today to play the game with me. So I'm here to learn how to play! Thank you for your tutorial!
That's great! Glad I could help you out😁
This is finally a video that explains how to play very good. I was trying to learn to play with my son and so many of the videos act as if you understand basic Pokémon which I do not. Are you able to evolve a fire Pokémon with an electric basic Pokémon? Or does it have to be the same energy type
I'm glad you found it helpful! I believe it would have to be the same type
sorry guys for being so late, but i believe it has to be from the same evolution line, for example pikachu can only evolve into raichu because they are from the same line of evolution, if you don't know what evolutions a pokemon has there's always google
I CANT BELIEVE THIS TOTAL BOSS WAS SO NICE TO HER AND INTRODUCED HER TO THE GAME.
LIKED, HEARTED, AND COMMENTED EVERY COMMENT, ETC! TYSSSM
Thank you!
Yes!!! I was telling Kailey that I need to learn more about Pokémon since I am now friends with someone who’s into Pokémon! Now I can learn how to play so we can play together!! Edit: awe kit!! Nice that your in a vid!!

I'm starting to play the TCG. This was a great video and it was also very easy to follow. Great job!
I'm glad you found it helpful!😁
Lately I have really been in to Pokémon. I don’t have any cards or anything yet but I’ll be getting some soon. So now I’ll know how to play when I get my cards!
That's awesome! Have fun playing when you get your cards!😁
Yeah… that was excellent.. thank you
Happy to have helped!😁
This is the second video i watched of yours and i am telling you man you are a good teacher.. i have seen so many videos but yours is the most easy to understand.
That's awesome! My goal is to make it as easy to understand as possible.
ty this was the most helpful video i found it explains very clearly but i have some other things i was confused on.
1. can i not do anything, and just attack with what i have, or do i have to make a move?
2. is there anything i can do besides use a trainer when i run out of energy cards
3. can i take an unlimited amount of moves before i attack if i can 😂
Yea you don't have to do anything on your turn except draw a card. If you run out of energies you're pretty much out of luck unless you have pokemon with abilities or trainer cards that can get energies out of the discard pile. Haha you can go as many turns as you want without attacking😅
@@TrainerTim1 ok ty sm😂 i have one more question tho im sry
when it says swap active pokemon with benched one do i detach energies? bc i have not been doing that
@@savqueen-robloxx2428 Haha all good! If you retreat a pokemon there is a retreat cost on the card some pokemon dont have a retreat cost. It will be signified by colorless energies
@@savqueen-robloxx2428 Of you use a card that allows you to switch then you keep the energies
@@TrainerTim1 ok thats what i was wondering thank u
Thank you so much! Been trying to learn how to play and this helped a lot. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Can you tell me how to get one of those play mat sheets? My son collects all the cards but ive never seen one of these play mats come with his cards and have had trouble searching for it.
It's alolan raichu and lycanroc trainer kit. New v battle decks come with a half play mat
This was really helpful for me so,
thank you 😊💞.

Just got into Pokemon Battle - Thanks for the video. Like and subbed :)
Awesome! Thank you!😁
Hello Tim, I started collecting Pokemon cards when I was 6 or 7, I'm 11 now, out of nowhere my friend asks me to play Pokemon TCG, we use to play TCG when we were small (the wrong way) and when we tried playing the same way it didn't make sense, I watched 1 video on TH-cam about how to play this game, but he made it very complicated to understand, fortunately, your video was very easy to understand and follow, still got few doubts tho.
1. What if I don't have the previous stage of a Pokemon? For ex. what if I have Blastoise and not Squirtle, can I use it? or what if I got Mega Blastoise and not Squirtle?
2. What if I ran out of energy cards??
Please Help ASAP
Please Help
For your ex blastoise you just need whatever is in the top left so if there isnt a pokemon in the top left then you are good. However if your blastoise ex has a wartortle in the top left then you will need a wartortle. If your deck doesn't have enough energy cards and you run out during a match then you are likely out of luck😅haha but there are a few item cards that can bring energies back from your discard pile. Hope this helps!
@@TrainerTim1 thnx Tim, I had didn't understand the answer to my first question... But I saw your deck building video so I understood.
Had 3 more doubts...
1. When do I have to put my energy card(s) in the discard pile?
2. If I use an attack then do I lose the energy cards, for example, if I use an attack costing 2 energy cards, so those two energy cards will go in the discard pile?
3. When do we draw a card?
@@vihaandattani1194 I have the same doubts
1. Can I add stage 2 Pokemon card if it's an EX or a GX card?
@@TrainerTim1 pls pls pls help... I promis e my friend to teach him this game tmrw (IST), pls clear up my doubts
Well done, now I know how to play . The others can't understand us like you. Your the best
Thank you so much I appreciate it!😁
To those who watch this video now, the rules have changed slightly. On your first turn going first you cannot play a support trainer. 10:28
Thank you so much for this video, I've watched so many but I am finally able to follow this one.
Happy to help! I'm glad you were able to follow! 😀
Im still so confused
1. do you have to have the previous evolutions to use a card?
2. is there a limit to the amount of special cards you can have? (EX, V, Megas, GX)
number 1 yes
number 2 i don't think so
Yes you need to have whatever pokemon is in the top left of the card if it's a stage 1 or stage 2 evolution. Yes the same 4 duplicate cards rule would apply to ex gx v and mega. The only exception to that rule is energy cards. Hope this helps😁
@@TrainerTim1

Thank you! This is the ONLY clear tutorial video. You have helped me a lot!
That's great! Glad I could help!😁
RULE CHANGE: Starting with the Sword & Shield Series, the player who goes first cannot
play a Supporter card on their first turn
Not to mention i think evolving has to be the first thing done after drawing if you want to evolve
Very good tutorial! I got into deck making and got to test them against my little sister. (She lost both times, but it was still fun.)
Well I'm glad it was still fun lol
Hey Tim, Please My Doubt
Great beginners tutorial, thanks!
Quesitons:
1) So using energy doesn't expend energy? That is, you get to keep the card up there and just keep spamming your card's ultimate attack?
2) Can you evolve any basic with any stage 1? Do types or affinities matter?
Thanks!
What the heck, this is not easy
Same as playing the video game but it’s on cards I can’t wait to play with my cards
Played Pokemon for the first time with my 11 year old son. He hustled me sooo hard lol he has no idea how to Properly play Pokemon, but now I do lol. He's getting Smashed tonight 💪🙏🤣

Wow this video helped out a lot. Its quite simple once you look at it. And it kind of helps if you have played the games, at least when it comes to how status effects works.

Wow this is awsome. Since they came out and I was a kid I had a shit load which I gave to my son years ago. Yea, I never knew how to play as a kid myself. I'm glad I could help!😁
The first Pokémon you put in your bench does it have to be Basic and can you put a different
Card which is not basic after the first one
Yea it has to be basic because you can't start with a stage 1 pokemon or stage 2 pokemon on the bench without evolving it
Thanks you’ve really helped

@@Meweasy No problem! 😁
Thank you for taking your time to show the rest of us how to play! I’m left with a few questions,
1. If you had no Pokémon on your bench when Magnetrik was knocked out would that have been an automatic loss?
2. How are strengths and resistances calculated? I assume, 2x would double the damage dealt and -20 resistance would mean a normally 60 damage attack would only inflict 40?
3. In your burned example, Chandelure’s attack is 50dmg, you mentioned being burned would inflict an additional 20dmg, so total would be 70dmg dealt, correct? Then, it’s 10dmg unless heads is flipped. Is this between turns or at the end of the burned pokemon’s turn?
I know it’s an older video, so no stress. Earned yourself a like and a follow with this one! 🙏🏽
1. Yes it would have been an automatic loss 2. Yep 2x is double damage and -20 reduces damage received by 20. Yes it would be 50 with an additional 20 so 70. Then burn damage is dealt at the end of your turn. Hope this helps!😁
@@TrainerTim1 thanks a lot for taking your time to follow up ! You’re a god send

I'm glad you found it helpful!😁
Delightful presentation and perfectly explained!!!! I'm just curious about one thing....can you put a basic pokemon into the active position directly from your hand? Or does it have to be benched before being able to use it in the active position?
Nope, the only time you can directly put a pokemon from your hand to the active spot is on the first turn when you draw your first cards. However, in the same turn, you can put a pokemon on the bench and then use another card to switch your active pokemon with a benched pokemon, or you can retreat your active pokemon.

@@raulduke1528 Love to hear it! Have fun!
They way me and my friends played pokemon cards(not knowing the typings and stuff at first) was that we get a pokemon we choose from our deck, draw at the same time and use whatever moves we wanted to use that the pokemon had (unless it was a move that can only be used once). Then we adding typing into the the game and kept playing until our decks were dead
That's an interesting way of playing!

4 questions:
1 - The energy used to switch a pokemon back to the bench is discarded from the pokemon to the discard pile, from the hand to the discard pile, or it is not discarded and stays on the pokemon?
2 - Damage counters for poison and fire are removed 1 per turn? If yes, which damage they do? 10 per turn? If not, which damage applies? 10 per token per turn until healed or killed?
3 - Dragon type pokemons have no energy for them. Which ones they use? Any kind like normal pokemons?
4 - The 18 energy, 22 pokemon and 20 trainer and item cards proportion people use can be tweaked any way as long as the card total is 60 right?
Thanks for this video, easy to understand.

i can’t explain how much you helped me! 😁 The only part i didn’t understand is that everytime it was your turn your drawer a card but your opponent didn’t why is that?

if you have a great ball and pick a pokemon can you place it into your bench on the same turn?
Yes as long as your bench is not full.
