Funny story, i bought a Steam Deck, it was going to me a week and it broke after 5 days cause i restarted it while in desktop mode and having game open. I tried to repair it with some guides but just broke it even more cause i disabled bluetooth making anything that would maybe help impossible. After some long talking with Steam Support they finally give me everything to send it to repair, now i just wait. So ye moral of the story, i'm bad at PC and very (un)lucky. Besides being easy to break even more with bad guides and being stupid it's a really good tech, emulation was taking my time and i loved it, idk what with games on steam cause i didn't have space or games to try. I was thinking about buying a Switch cause i love portable gaming and when Steam Deck get broken again i would just play on it when waiting for it to come back and getting Switch repaired is easier also online isn't that expensive.... But still fuck paid online, it's the worst thing console players need to fuck with

Sadly it is not the PC platform that's the problem. It is the companies and developers that are purposely making it look awful by overpricing the parts and making some games not run to its full potential.

      Don't blame the devs.
They have been tweaking the shit out of many games just do we can stagnate on an 8 gig VRAM standard for the past 8 years.
Edit: yes, poorly optimized games exist.
Especially poorly ported games from console or just smaller Indi studios that don't have the budget.
But games also just get more demanding over time and that's exactly how it should be.

I used to be a PC gamer a long time ago. I didn't have much money after that, so switched to PS4, despite I had heard a lot about "huge prices on games". But years later, I have 120+ games in my library, and I've spent just 20% more than it is on PC. Just a year ago I've got a new job, more income etc, so I've thought - let's move on to "true gaming" on PC. I have never been so wrong... When I configured the PC (in the PC configurator site) I've dreamed about, I was shocked. 7800x3d + 4080 + quality other parts (but not top tier) ~ $3.000
And this PC isn't possible to handle everything in 4K 60FPS on Ultra. I have to manage my settings 🤦
And I'm not a teenager anymore with unlimited time to play. I have 2 hours per day at MAX. $3.000 for 2 hours playing. Seems like I have to wait for the next gen to make the previous one affordable.

And it really pisses me off how expensive the parts have become. It's completely unjustified. All these PC parts cost a few dollars to actually produce in the factories. But they sell for hundreds and thousands just because of the " innovation and idea " . So we're not paying for the production effort put into making a CPU or GPU or SSD or Motherboard or RAM. We're paying hundreds and thousands only for buying an " idea " on a small microchip which costs only a few dollars to actually make. The biggest thing that I have noticed about pc gamers is that every pc gamer thinks that you need to max out every graphics setting. There isn’t always a need to play on ultra with anti aliasing maxed out. Games don’t look much better between ultra and high graphics settings. You get a huge fps increase just from playing games on high graphics. I’ve been gaming on pc since 2017 when I built my first computer with a homie of mine. I still own a console for sports games. I know to a lot of people sports games don’t matter but unfortunately if you enjoy sports games you are forced to play on console. 2K and madden on pc are not even the current gen version of the game it’s last generation(ps4 and Xbox one) I feel like I get the best of both. If I want to be comfortable I relax in my living room on my couch and play sports games. If I want to sweat in a shooter or play something with really good graphics I go upstairs to my game room and get on the pc.

4:20 to be fair, 4K has always been a rough and expensive resolution to stay relevant at. 1440P and 1080P get much better mileage out of GPUs in the long term. Digital Foundry was one of the outlets that tried to show 1080 Ti 60FPS gameplay which is would struggle at that time. I'd like to point out that bit where you mention it being impossible to build a PC with the same specs as current consoles at the same price point. All consoles are sold at a huge loss as it likely costs about $800 per console for them to manufacture and then sell it to you for only $500. It's pretty similar to how the inkjet printer scene works. HP sells you a nice $50, all in one, wifi printer, scanner, fax machine combo that costs them $200 to manufacture complete with almost empty ink cartridges that you most certainly will need to replace within the first month of use. In the long run they make up for that loss on the printer sale by overcharging you for miniscule amounts of ink that constantly need to be replaced in the same way that console manufacturers make you pay more for games, peripherals and online features access.

If a $500-$1000+ pc is worse than a $400 console(ps5) then how is pc better? Wouldn’t just a certain tier of pc be better like high end PCs instead of PCs as a whole because console is better than all low end and most mid end PCs? Also the average pc gamer setup is around $1000 or less price point so that makes consoles better than most PCs out there so shouldn’t console be better overall since it’s better than most PCs?

Mid tier pc is already better than console. For 1000 you can get pc with rtx 3060ti which is already better than a console. And games on consoles are more expensive + you have to pay for online so the total spendings will eventually get closer. Also pc isnt better just because its more powerful but because of all the other features and options its has that console doesnt. The games being more expensive compared to the main pc stores like steam isn’t true because I’ve literally compared prices of the most popular games and they be similar most of the time and the paying for online thing really isn’t paying when you get 100s of free games that by far outweighs the costs and only a tiny amount of games run at 30 fps which 99% of those games you can choose a 60fps+ option if you wanted to. It just comes down to preference at the end of the day, but I like both personally.

There are ps5 games sold for 80 while pc versions for same games are still for 60 and you can find them elsewhere for even less. "paying for online thing really isn’t paying when you get 100s of free games" lol what are you talking about ? You literally pay money for it so how is it not paying. And most of those games are old games. Epic games and other launchers on pc are giving away a lot of games for completely free and you keep them forever rather than just actually renting them when they can disappear anytime. You dont get "free games". You are just rentimg them and lose access to them as soon as you stop paying for online.

If games are cheaper on pc most of the time then this random list should show that. Lastly it’s irrelevant to say that you have to pay for online when you get 100s of dollars worth out of it. You also get huge discounts on games that last forever which cancels out the price for the subscription as well so saying we have to pay for online is a true statement but weak argument. Pricing is definitely getting so nutty I’m seeing more and more people just give up building or upgrading and end up saying they bought a ps5. If some one is on a really tight budget and may not have a Pc and they just want to casually play some games it’s not a bad idea to get a ps5 or Xbox just because you do get a lot of value esp on the Xbox side with game pass. However, I am blessed to have ps5 and a high end gaming pc and I really still prefer pc just because I can play older games, newer games and emulators and more. I do think if some one is going to build a Pc and they don’t plan on upgrading it later or typically don’t have the money to buy a new gpu every few years it’s better to save up and get something with more vram than a 4070 ti, although it’s not a bad gpu at all! My wife and many other people I know are using one now and it’s fire. The price is terrible considering what we use to pay for gpus. I really don’t think gpu prices are going to normal again anymore especially with the demand for ai and demand for several other applications that harness gpu power.
What my final thought is, look at gaming laptops. You may not get the same exact power out of a desktop counterpart butttttt you can get some really good deals on gaming laptops right now. I’ve seen some good deals on them and you don’t need a monitor keyboard or mouse or any accessories. So in the end if someone is coming from console and they have a strict 1000$ all in budget it could be an option worth looking at. I’ve seen people find clearance and open box deals for 3070 /3080 laptops under 1000$

Based on the benchmarks and tests I’ve seen you really need to spend a minimum of about $1,200 to get the same real world performance as a current generation consoles. These hardware companies have to start working together to compete against consoles if they want to be sustainable. Because right now they seem to be working together to gouge die hard PC users and console gamers that are just assuming any PC is going to be way better than their consoles. People will be disillusioned eventually, and the small fraction of die hard won’t be enough to keep PC gaming viable. Outside of small budget indie games anyway. Great video!

    - too expensive (only if you aim to play the newest AAA games, indies and AA games usally run on a budget GPU. mine is an RTX 3060, and everything is runs just fine)
    - bad pc ports (maybe, but thx to the growing indie market, you don't need to rely only on PC ports. also you can play retro games more easily than you could on consoles)
    - driver updates (idk, i only needed to do it once in evry year, and everything its never a problem)
    - too many game launchers (sure, but you can decide wich ones are you gonna use. for example, i only use STEAM and GOG)
in steam, i have my main game libary, and in gog, i have a libary dedicated to retro games...
also, you had more freedom in pc.
    - what OS do you plan to use, (windows for general gaming, linux for emulation)
    - how do you get your game, (purchase in launcher, use key sites, pirate it)
    - free multiplayer... just saying.
    - you can use ANY periferia for games. (i using a custom RGB controller, that has custom mapable buttons, and its compatibile with nintendo switch and pc alike)
    - you can build your pc for your own purpose, so you don't need to upgrade hardware so often.
for example, i have a 20 TB HDD since i like to have a lot of thing installed at once, but i only have a decent graphic card, since i don't play the newest AAA games that often.
i more of a AA and Indie enjoyer...
so overall, currently the PC is SUPERIOR compared to modern consoles.
but as a PC gamer, i still has consoles, just not modern ones. thats why my last console is the PS3, that had free online multiplayer, and has exclusives that are hard to emulate.
for example, my favorite game series: Skylanders...

Finally the Gigabyte RX 6700xt came down to reference price and it has WindForce 3X cooler. Picked that GPU up. Later AMD announced the new 7000 series CPU and I would need a new motherboard. Few days later Newegg made a mistake and sent me a sale email that had the R7 5700x for like $189 and that was like $80 less than Amazon wanted back then. Picked that part up and kept my motherboard.

    Some Small mistakes:
    - You listed a Ryzen 7 5700x and 6700xt which is miles ahead of ps5/xbox SX's CPU and GPU. But yes you are right GPU prices are still too high in EU/rest of the world. I would suggest getting a 6600xt/6650xt level of GPU (or a 3070) and atleast a modern Ryzen 5 or i5 to get through this console generation.
    - Last of us part 1 is a remake made specifically for PS5. The 4k MAX settings @ 60fps+ needing a 4080 is not surprising.
Seems like people who bought 3060, 3060ti and 3070 expected RT all throughout this console generation are getting scammed.

    • @ErockOnTech
      @ErockOnTech  ปีที่แล้ว

You’re not the only person to correct me on the last of us “remake” vs “remaster”. Either way, it doesn’t matter. The PC specs list are ridiculous. That game was in development before the 4080 was even announced. So how in the world is the 4080 expected for 4K 60? That makes no sense. When gamers buy high end hardware like a 4080 or 4090, we want to run the latest games at 4K Ultra and get well over 100 fps for at least a year. These cards are only a few months old. So at that point, what’s the point?
As for the hardware, I just knew eventually someone would say “that hardware doesn’t equal a console.” Well, respectfully I disagree because I’ve done the research and I’ve already made a whole video talking about how powerful a PC should be and how it relates to a console. I will link that video down below so you can go listen to my reasoning. In short, consoles are using AMD’s RDNA 2 architecture and the CPU is 8 cores. Technically speaking, from a CPU perspective, you would want something like a 3700x to match that. However, since those CPUs are not made new anymore, you have to buy those second hand. Plus those CPUs are very expensive now second hand. So realistically, you’re better off getting a 5000 series CPU. Again, in the video, I specifically said “match console spec for spec.” So in order to do that you need an 8 core AMD CPU. The 5700x is the cheapest logical option.
As for the GPU, again, I did a video about this already. It explains the compute units and Tera flop specs of the consoles. The 6700 XT makes the most sense.
I do agree with you that you can get lower spec hardware and be totally fine. 100%. You are correct. However, the more you do that, the more you open yourself up to lowering the settings and using upscaling. But with the hardware I listed, the cost was $584 I believe if I am remembering correctly. So if I did your hardware specs, what would that save the user? Maybe a hundred bucks? Either way, you’re close to that $500 total still for just two components. I love PC. I think it’s better than console. I’m just stating the fact that the pricing has gotten utterly ridiculous.

If you play video games regularly as a hobby then PC will always be cheaper over time. It's not like console manufacturers make their hardware cheap out of the goodness of their heart. They subsidize it. As a result, consoles have far fewer sales than on PC, new games cost more than the PC version, and playing online costs a subscription fee. You don't get regular giveaways like you do on PC due to competing stores either, Amazon Prime only gives you PC games, HumbleBundle is also exclusively PC, there's just not whole lot of options to actually save money on gaming after the console hardware purchase.

I don't know, I got a gaming Mini Gaming PC for 1000 dollars. But the Graphic card was about 300 dollars. Its not the highest end. But it works fine. Been playing Cyberpunk 2077 on it for the last month. And i only play on 1080p tv. I really don't care that much about 4k, 120fps or whatever. I just want to play the fucking games. One great thing about PC games. Is all the Indie games, old school PC Games, Emulation, that don't really require that much power anyways. The main reason for me to own PC is the Games are Cheaper. There more choice as to where buy them and then stuff like mods that cant do on Console.

Excellent video. You responded to a previous comment of mine why I'm looking at a PS5, as a lifelong PC gamer, and this video pretty much sums up why. Looking at the performance specs for TLoU, for example, I'd need to maybe upgrade my CPU (I have a 5600 non X), but certainly I'd need to upgrade the RAM at $160 AUD for the same 2 x 8GB kit I currently have, and I'd need to upgrade my GPU at over $1000 AUD for a 6800 (can't find a 6750XT here), and I just don't have the money for those, but I do for a PS5. Right now PC is pricing itself out of the market, especially for a decent well performing mid range 4-5 year PC. Edit: I'd also like to point to Hogwarts Legacy as another recent poor port due to poor optimisation.

I have been a PC gamer my whole life and I do think PC gaming is better when it come to graphics and high fps/refresh gaming but lately I feel like game developers care more about consoles. For example, hogwarts legacy is a stuttery mess on my Ryzen 7 7700X and RTX 4090 to the point where I don't even enjoy playing it (I'm just going to wait for them to fix all the bugs). Same thing with Forza Horizon 5, when it launched (I had a 3070 Ti at the time) stutter every 30 seconds to a minute and that is very annoying. I just started playing it again 3 month ago and it looks like they fixed the stutters because now the game runs perfectly fine. I just feel like generally games run better/smoother on consoles even if the graphics are slightly worse.

Do you have game mode in windows enabled? Also, this is for Hogwarts Legacy specifically. Do this trick at the start of this video. Let me know if it helps.

You are right and you are also wrong. You don't have to spend $2,500 to get a decent gaming computer. I think most players like myself are happy to have a PC that can run a triple A game at 1080P and get 60 to 75 FPS. My HP gaming PC cost me $550 and I added a 2TB SSD witch brought the price up to $690. My PC came with a Ryzen 5-5600G processor and a Radeon RX5500 graphics card. I can run games like Red Dead Redemption 2 , Cyberpunk 2077, Witcher 3 & Shadow of the Tomb Raider on high settings and get 75FPS and I can hook it up to my 4K TV and play at 1440P and get 55FPS witch too me and a lot of other players is fine. One downside to buying a super expensive PC with all the bells and whistles is you'll also have to buy a 4K monitor and they are not cheap. I enjoyed the video & keep up the good work

    @mattbog2057 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Yes pc is more expensive but its still better. There are some drawbacks like bad ports as you mentioned but imo the pros outweight the cons for me hence I still choose pc over console.
For me here are Pros and Cons of PC and a console
    PC Pros:
    - versatility, customizability
    - you can do a lot of other things besides gaming
    - being able to upgrade without needing to buy completely new pc every time
    - being able to tweak graphics settings in games and get perfomance/fps or visuals of your preference rather than being stuck at same preset settings
    - you can run games at better graphics and/or higher fps than on consoles asuming you have a decent pc
    - being able to stream and/or record games without needing any extra accessory. If you wanted to stream/record on console you would need pc anyway and on top of it you would still need to buy capture card
    - being able to game on both mouse and keyboard and use any controller of your preference (playstation, xbox, switch or any other controllers all work on pc)
    - being able to use both monitor and tv at the same time and can even use multiple screens at the same time
    - cheaper games and free online. Some games are even given away for completely free such as on Epic. Now the pc itself is still a lot more expensive but this factor eventually bridges the gap on total spendings between console and pc
    - mods
    - games on pc usually age better also thanks to graphics mods which are basically like unofficial remasters so even some old games can still look good thanks to them. Heck some of the graphics mods the better job than some official remasters. GTA trilogy is perfect example. And you dont even need to rebuy the game again like you have to with remasters
    - emulation of older consoles that have games that arent available anymore on modern consoles
    - above point also brings out the fact that on PC I never need to worry about backward compatibility and can keep playing my games pretty much forever. Also steam is not going away anytime soon yet you never know when they close online service for consoles. Nintendo is already doing it with Wii u and 3ds online shops
    - having pc versions of the games give you more options of where you can play them. You can even play them on the phone thanks to geeforce now, or on a weaker laptop or even some modern TVs have it now. Or you can play them on the steam deck so you can play them on the go. You wouldnt have this option if you had playstation/xbox versions
    PC Cons:
    - more expensive
    - some bad pc ports that can cause issues like stuttering and other perfomance problems even on otherwise powerful pcs
    - having to use multiple launchers for games and having to reqister on every single one of them which can sometimes be a hassle
    - potential drivers issues that can cause game crashes etc. which you then have to do your own research and troubleshooting to fix it which can be frustrating especially for someone who isnt a "tech" person
    - more likely to meet cheaters/hackes when playing games online
    Console Pros:
    - cheaper
    - simple plug and play, ease of use and overall more user friendly especially for casuals
    - exclusive games. Then again not sure if this is a point for console because pc still has a lot of games that arent on consoles and consoles today have a lot less exclusives than 10+ years ago and even those eventually get ported to pc
    - unlikely to have issues like game crashes
    - less likely to meet cheaters/hackers online
    Console Cons:
    - being stuck at preset settings for games. Some games force you to play at 30 fps and theres nothing you can do about it
    - in general lower fps and lower graphics than on a good pc
    - only being able to play with controller that came with the console. Strategy games and shooter games is a night and day difference on mouse/keyboard vs controller. While you technically can use mouse/keyboard on console but lets be real no one does that when playing on a couch
    - more expensive games and you have to pay to be able to play games online
    - theres only so much disc space you can expand upon
    - you dont know if you will be able to play your games on future generations of consoles. PS5 is backwards compatible with ps4 but its not with ps3,2,1 and ps4 isnt even backward compatible with ps3. So you will still need multiple consoles to be able to play games across all generations and have to use seperate controllers for each one and it will be even more in the future generations which alone is just more hassle and annoyance(and your tv will run out of enough hdmi ports eventually so you still wont be able to play all of them)
    - you dont know if the online services will stay
    - less options overall
I choose PC and dont mind paying more because all the extra options, versatility, being able to run games at higher fps and having everything on one platform makes it worth it for me.

  • @No-vq1iv
    @No-vq1iv ปีที่แล้ว

That''s nice. Three things I'd like to point out though:
First, Xbox Series X is $600 without taking into account the fact that you have to pay separately for multiplayer. Or the fact that you'll have to re-buy most of your games when an upgrade comes out, games which also tend to cost more on consoles, often significantly (more on that later).
Second, you don't need the latest and greatest hardware to outperform a Series X or PS5 Pro, especially now with AI upscaling tech like FSR and DLSS having infected the PC market as well, unfortunately. It's easier than ever to match console level performance, a 7900XTX is for someone who wants to run games on Ultra native 4K at 60+ FPS with a pile of mods slapped on top. The framerate alone is twice what the consoles deliver, not to mention all the shit you can do on a PC that you can't on a console... such as running console games.
Third, and personally I would lead with this: You don't have to pay for games. In fact, chances are you'll get a better experience if you don't, given how bloated with DRM many PC ports tend to be nowadays. If you don't like a game or a publisher, just don't pay for it, it's that simple.

    • @ErockOnTech
      @ErockOnTech  ปีที่แล้ว

Oh I love PC for sure. No doubt. I just wanted to present both sides of the argument. I have done multiple videos on why PC is better. So it was time to discuss the issues. Pricing is definitely an issue.
The MSRP of the Xbox Series X is $500 not $600. I see the console for MSRP in my local market all the time. But maybe your local market is different.
You don’t need the latest and greatest hardware. That’s for sure. But you do at least need a 20 series GPU or a 6000 series GPU to utilize the upscaling capabilities. I showed a basic build in the video. It was $500 alone just for the CPU and GPU combo. Could you go lower? Probably. But I wouldn’t recommend it.

Its true that even if you buy high end gpu you probably wont be able to max out settings for 5+ years straight. But remember that graphics on console versions arent equivalent of maxed out settings on pc so you will still be able to run it at better graphics than console versions. Also the recent last of us isnt remaster but a full remake rebuilt from ground up. Yes gameplay and story wise its exactly same as the original but because its a remake rebuilt from a ground up it does have graphics and thus requirements of a modern game. Note that the remake that is coming to pc is only on ps5. Its not on ps4. PS4 only has remaster of the ps3 version which is indeed just a remaster but the recent last of us is a full remake. Now that being said the requirements are still too high and im not excusing that but Im just pointing it out that its actually a remake and not remaster and remake usually has graphics and requirements like new modern games.

I think when it comes to pc gaming people just need to be reasonable with their expectations and know that there is a certain thing called diminishing returns. A 4090 is great today but will likely be the 5070 tomorrow. So always keep things in mind. I do believe consoles have their place. But for me I can never go back.

Hey definitely don’t get me wrong. I also switched to PC during the Xbox one and PS4 era. I also prefer PC. I love PC and I will never go back. My PS5 collects dust. But I was asked to make a video about the negatives of PC. Like you said, it’s not perfect.
