AM5 is so much better in 2024! I strongly recommend the platform in it's current state. The 7800X3D continues to be the best gaming CPU. What do you think? Are you on the AM5 platform? GET DISCORD ACCESS FOR ONLY $1: www.patreon.com/ErockOnTech Follow me on Twitter: twitter.com/ErockOnTech
Not yet; Prices in Canada are Prohibitively High!! We pay on average approx. $200.00 more per Component than you do in the U.S. !! The Price of an AM5 7800X3D CPU is: $530.00 Cad. !!! Full Size ATX AM5 Motherboards are: $210.00 Cad. & DDR5 Memory is: $135.00 Cad. These Prices are before Tax!! Subtotal: $ 875.00 Cad. I'll be waiting another 2 - 3 Years before I make the switch!!
@@michaeloneill1360 Your parts aren't costing more. Your dollar isn't as valuable as the US dollar. No joke, not taking shots, just pure economic fact. I've bought a lot of parts from Canada because they're quite often cheaper against the US market, especially used.
When people were having issues with their 13th gen CPUs people dismissed it. It is sad that it wasn't until a Korean company came out and said intel was fucked that people started to notice and now with level1 and GN getting on it people are finally starting to see how bad it really is.
tbh it was the 14th gen release that accelerated the issue and widespread issues popped up. That's when Nvidia/Epic also shared their information as more UE5+ games started to come out.
Yeah I agree. Smaller tech TH-camrs like me can’t really move the needle on these issues. It takes bigger creators to do it. But also Intel has a customer base that is used to a “just works” product. So their hesitancy makes sense. But still when multiple creators report on it, maybe it’s time to take it seriously. In the PC community we have a bad tendency to assume that if our hardware is fine, then everyone else with the same hardware is also fine. But that is simply not true.
@@IAMDEMIURGE th-cam.com/video/UBAxbPTCXg4/w-d-xo.html warning long video (almost 2 hours) but AHCO goes over what you can do to lessen the chance of your CPU shitting the bed.
@@ZomgZomg007I have a TH-cam short on it. “How to overclock your 7800X3D.” Because when you use a negative curve optimizer, it under volts it but also increases the clock speeds.
I thought I was the only one who under clocked! The BIOS in the MSI B650 Tomahawk makes that very easy to do! And since I'm not a gamer I run a couple of monitors off the CPU and save the cost of a GPU. As I write this my 7800X3D is running at 37 C and using 15.1 watts, a lightweight power drain just as I hoped. It's still ten times faster than my old AMD AM3 socket rig.
@@voiceofreason9238 Yessss yayyyy! I also got a 7900GRE which beileve it or not also benefits from undervolting. its the new overclocking! i use an air cooler so the whole idea of it is very good for my anxiety when it comes to worrying about my system hah
With the disaster of intel 13/14th dieing...AM5 was the right choice. No one would have predicted Intel would have released a degrading CPU, the AM5 catching fire situation was mostly limited to ASUS
Intel CPUs degrading like this is basically unheard of. It's no wonder it took so long to figure out. The degradation in such a short period of time will likely see huge lawsuits in the coming years. Probably a class action one as well.
@@vogonp4287 After there whole RMA issues, I will NOT touch another Ascrap product ever again. I'd rather buy from MSI or even Gigabyte before I touch Asus(Ascrap).
I built a 7950x a year ago. It's used for high end audio, primarily, and it's been rock solid. I do throttle max temp at 85c and undervolt all the CPUs slightly. Also, I run 6000mhz DDR5 at 5600. I haven't had a single problem, CPU headroom galore and heat isn't a problem at all.
Been using Ryzen for studio builds for years. It's hands down best processor class I've ever used for audio processing, I don't know how people stay stuck on Mac to this day... I built for a fairly known local producer a couple of years ago, and he was worried about his workflow etc. etc., but he didn't even know ProTools was available on windows lol. Some people are still rocking ancient rigs with massive cards that have cable I/O on them lol. I met a dude who was still rocking his windows 3.1 rig, mostly as a gag, but it was also the only system he had that could connect to his tape to digital rig lol.
@@x8jason8x I'm still dinosaur with an RME AES/HDSP PCIe card connecting interfaces and monitors, but yea, I used to be all Mac and Pro Tools with various of digidesign HW config's. Saw that writing on the wall, got out from under their doomed-to-devaluate hardware, got into various hackintosh rigs but over the years found myself never using Mac for anything. Finally ditched hackintosh and am fully a Reaper and Wavelab user for my primary work. Every now and then I'm forced to rent Pro Tools for a job but other than that it's long gone. I used to love Apple. Now Windows seems the wise place to be, the place where your investment lasts the longest and there's far less trouble with planned obsolescence, driver conflicts and rigid hardware configurations. AMD is kicking ass although I do think it's wise to get familiar with tweaking BIOS settings and getting under the hood a bit, which maybe isn't feasible for some folks.
Thank you I just bought a 7950x3d a couple days ago but all last week I was literally searching, am5 1 year later reviews, and couldn't find anything so this is appreciated
Great update content man. These kinds of videos are just as crucial and important as the initial benchmark/review videos. Because it gives users a good insight on the long term experience which you just don't get from day 1 reviews. It's a shame the platform got off to a rocky start but nonetheless glad the majority of those issues are gone. Fingers crossed I don't have issues with my 14900k, but if anything ever arises, AM5 seems like a very viable alternative.
Thank you man I appreciate it! Yeah I get so annoyed when I can’t find an updated video on a topic I’m interested in haha. But you and I both know how much work goes into making content. So it makes sense why follow up videos take a while to get to. Thanks for the support! I’m happy also your intel system is totally fine! All consumers deserve a working machine that is stable and reliable. I hope it stays that way.
Danny GPU Today update is posted at Seeking Alpha all SKUs channel inventory, best offer 3070 + A4K so 3070 is about to pass 3060 12 in Steam, share, supply and sales trend all the usual if u can get to it right now I could not even grab the url on the wait it seems SA crashed or there is a very long wait time to pull up the brief and the site at this very moment. On the CPU side yea I've commented and offered up data on AMD and Intel and it's all there in my comment string. mb
It's really great to see how AM5 has improved since launch... And ironically Intel has gone the other direction. Looking like AMD may have a second "Ryzen moment" incoming now with everything they have going for them.
Back in 2005 I bought a 256MB RAM module from a store I went to in Texas. It was a complete waste of money because it didn't work in my computer. I've had RAM that would work with other sticks of different brands and different speeds but usually I have issues mixing RAM. You gotta be careful with RAM. I still have that old 256MB stick of RAM that I bought in 2005. It's a reminder of the time I wasted my money because I didn't do any research to make sure it worked ahead of time.
Yeah I've done this now with 2 CPU coolers, the 2nd one I just assumed would fit and I didn't find out untill i had the pc gutted, at least I got a chance to clean it 😂
Been always with Intel and with their current drama, I am thinking to switch team now. Thanks for the ram talk as it is something I always try to avoid when come to AMD platform.
I just built with a 7700X/7900 GRE and 32 GB 6000 Mhz CL 30 RAM lately and I'm loving it. The 7700X only goes up to about 80C with a beefy air cooler like the Peerless Assassin 120 SE.
Never had any issues with AM5 builds myself, but that was largely due to the newness of it I think. Most people who went AM5 builds with me just had me get parts for them, so I was able to avoid a lot of pitfalls.
Super helpful man. I bought a 13700k system about a year ago, but I returned it because I felt like it wasn't the right time. But I've been looking to buy again and have been on the fence for a while for which platform to go.
While still with zero money, I decided to have a look at some basic computer parts for a AMD based system. APU, motherboard, RAM. The funny thing is that one of the reasons I would consider such a build (if I had money) is the long term support for the AM5 socket. Unless I am mistaken at least the next series of CPUs/APUs by AMD will be supported by AM5. Something which let's face it Intel is not great at. Add to that the what appears to be very good power consumption for the CPU/APUs. I said funny thing based on the lower length of time AMD usually supports their GPUs with drivers compared to Nvidia. My point is, good video. Also, love the shirt.
Sorry that you had to go through all this with AMD and then Intel, but I'm glad that AM5 is in a much better place now than it was at launch. I'm happy with my Ryzen 7 3700X and will probably run it until 2026 sometime but it's still good to stay in the loop and see what's going on. I know my B450 motherboard has gotten several BIOS updates since I bought it.
the channel definetaly came long way, good luck. also I'm running away from12700k/msi z690 carbon terrible experience, to new zen5 depends on the price for 9950x or 9900x, my first AMD and I' am excited.
I'm glad AM5 is doing better. I was forced to try gaming on the PC platform again (PS5 controller is too thick for me to hold, and I hate Xbox always online/monthly forced updates) However I've ran into so many problems with PC. I really hope newcomers to PC don't have to deal with these problems. Like the ones listed in this video. I miss being able to just insert a game and just play. No online requirmemt, no forced updates, no tinkering with settings. Just sit down and play.
Yeah sadly, PC isn’t exactly plug and play like a console. But the trade off is that if you are willing to be a little technically involved, then you can have a better gaming experience. AM5 issues have been ironed out thankfully. Other than that, it’s just a matter of leaning the ins and outs of the PC platform. I’m working on a video about how to switch to PC gaming from console. You may be interested in that. Stay tuned!
Thankfully I was able to to get one now and I will say it's so much better than my Intel build I might be sticking with this until the 9800x3D gets a lot of updates and is stable to get it later
Glad to hear your experience going back to AM5 has stayed positive! I as well can wholeheartedly recommend it as well. I used to have many of the same problems you described with AM5, so much so that I couldn't at the time recommend it to anyone who wasn't computer savvy. The last 6 months though have been very stable and I never doubt my PC will POST. Would probably hold off on Ryzen 9000 though. Hard to say what problems those may have, not to mention the price could potentially come down quickly if they don't price it right to begin with. I am curious to see the improvements for the 9800x3d over the 7800x3d. Would love to see better idle power usage because my 7800x3d doesn't seem to use less than 32 watts unless I used the base DDR5 speed of 4800.
You may want to check your motherboard settings. Mine had one unused component (ASM1061) that kept sending useless interrupt signals to the CPU, keeping it busy (and hotter) for no reason. Disabling it in the BIOS lowered my 7800x3D overall power consumption by 5W, to around 20 W at idle. RAM at 6000 MT/s, curve optimizer at -25.
Great video and I appreciate you taking all the time you put into it. I am trying to justify on building a new pc. My current pc is a AMD4 X570 Asus tuff gaming, 32 gigs 3200 G.skil 2x16,, RTX2070. This pc runs fantastic. Now when I built it about 5 years ago, I had all kinds of problems. Mainly my ram would not run at 3200 with expo on, or at least consistently. Testing the memory with memtest would always pass. Then finally I swapped the memory out with my Asrock B450m pro board (Same memory) and no more issues in expo. I even took the memory from the Asus and put that into the Asrock and got the same error's on that pc. Needless to say, I bought new memory and not a problem since. Ok, I'm not a gamer, I just do live streams and edit video (Davinci Resolve Free). I just like to build something new like every 5 years or so. I was thinking about going intel, but they have their own issues with the Gen 13 and 14. I was thinking about going with a Ryzen 7 7000 or the Ryzen 7 7000x. Probably a B650 or B650e motherboard. I do like Asus motherboards, though I see some issues with these. Anyway, I'm not in a hurry and this was truly a great video.
DDR5 6000 was included with the AMD test kits that were provided to the press. It was also the speed AMD recommended for best performance with AM5. Specifically the kit in question was the G.SKIL F5-6000J3038F16GX2-TZ5NR, probably still one of the best kits for AM5.
I have had mine over a year and a half I have a 7700x with a 7900 XT MSI X670E MAG Tomahawk WiFi I use mine for gaming and a Workstation it may not be the fastest one out there but I'm happy I haven't had any problems at all
I think a good future video idea would be to make a video in January like "AM5 in 2025 - The Time to Switch from AM4 is Now". I think the combination of the 5's in the title giving it a bit of a ring, or like numeric alliteration, on top of the fact that people will be looking for 2025 updated videos throughout the year, will really help to set the stage for changing the narrative on AM5. Although I know Ad Revenue is down in January, so maybe it could be a late December video or something.
I'm confused. You didn't change anything, and it fixed itself? I'm a year into my AM5 build MSI Pro B650-p Wi-Fi, 7700x (combo from Micro Center), and mine has started failing to post, just like you're describing. I have to turn it off and on 5 or 6 times to get it to boot. I'll try the switch on the back of the psu next time.
Great video ERock I have 7800x3d on a asus rog strix x670e-e on the recommended bios, the booting problem I have is if I set my ram at 6000 it will not boot to windows but it I set it to the recommended speed 5200 it works fine every time Type of ram I use Trident z5 neo ddr5. Any advice?
I have a Ryzen 5 7600 with 2x 16GB DDR5-6000MT/s CL30 Fury, mb is Gigabyte B650 DS3H. I keep the RAM at 5600MT/s with CL and everything set automatically, I experienced zero issues by now.
I ditched Intel and went with a 7800x3d. So happy I did. Now I dont have to upgrade for a long time. Given that AM5 is being supported until 2027+, it's very likely that Zen 6 will be available. I'll probably upgrade then. As for RAM, I went with a 48GB 6400 MT/s kit tuned to CL 30. Works like a charm. They say that the new sweet spot for AM5 will be 6400.
I have always used intel cpus and mobo. I have 2 rigs one for gaming and one for general work and home tasks. After this whole Intel instability problem/fiasco im ditching my Intel gaming rig for Amd. Im just trying to decide on whether to get a 7800x3d now or wait for the 9800x3d(with no release date available).
Im not sure if this was more of an X3D issue. But Ive considered myself lucky. I built my pc with a 7950x in Nov/Dec 22 and have been running my ram in expo 6000 since day one and never had any issues.
I can corroborate, I've been rocking a 7800x3D CPU and 6000MHz/30CL RAM since around March of this year. Before anything I made sure to take precautions and update everything as most sources say. After all is said and done, I never had any issues. Even when hard-rebooting my PC through Windows 10 and different Linux distros multiple times, it chugged right along. Hooked up to a 360 AIO and it never goes past the 70s in temperature. Clean 1440p, 165Hz, and high settings.
Yeah, so, I'm a day one AM5 adopter, Asus ROG Strix B650-A Gaming Wifi with a 7700x. I never once had problems with the system posting. The only issues that I've had were the initial RAM compatibility issue and the fact that my boot times have never once been quick. Fast boot used to skip the splash screen so I could never get into the bios, so I turned that off. Now, my boot times are reminiscent of Windows 95 computers. Gaming performance and all that is great, just boot times suck.
Great video. So much of that learninig curve that goes on when Newer hardware comes out. There has to be an expected time for the issues to be found and dealt with. I would bet that the new AMD 9000 series will have it's learning curve to work out any issues that can't be known about until there are a greater number of systems being used - which are likely to discover the needed to be fixed unforseen issues. There should be fewer with the 9000 series then there was with the earlier series. We all know the early adaptors olf any technology are the " Last " line of tester's for it. Which is why I wait a little bit before buying a new generation of hardware. I am knowledgeable enought that I can use newer hardware and not have too many issues because it's new hardware and if I should encounter any issues ; I can deal with it after researching the cause of the issues and probable fixes for it.
I had a 7600x and nothing but boot issues until I decided to send it back (October 2024). At the time I thought a mark on the cpu like the one shown above was normal (My fx-8350 changed color and still runs perfectly). In retrospect, I wish I had taken a picture of it. Maybe I had a bad chip, or a bad motherboard.
@@ErockOnTech thank you for the reply! I just have to confirm this as well, because Fuma 2 just installed on my new AM5 motherboard with 7800x3d and indeed it does fit perfect! What an upgrade for me from 3700x to 7800x3d! 👍
I have two b650 Aorus Elite $80 boards and $80 Trident 6400 c32 just waiting for good used 7600/7600x once people upgrade to 9000. My last two 5800x/x570s will then be sold for basically the same price to move them to AM5. Currently have: 7800x3D x3 7600x. x3 5800x. x2 5700x. My last local new purchased 7800x3D was only $220. Lots of deals worth buying and selling off what you already have for close to the same price.
@@ErockOnTech still a bit overkill as two of the Media PCs are not utilized much. But the family PCs do, server pc does and shop pc gets some use for streaming music or looking up a guide when working in the garage turning wrenches. Besides the two Media PCs (7800x3d/6700xt , 7600x/6700xt) most do get plenty of use. I’m thrifty certainly waiting for low ball pricing. Also the PCs are kinda like RPG characters, little cheap upgrade here a little there. New Noctua D15 for $40 on this one, $200 6750xt on that and sell a 6600xt for $200. Thrifty but fun to do clean budget builds.
Honestly, my AM5 PCs have been the most hassle free PCs I have had in years. I have 2 at the moment, the Asus ROG Strix X670E-F with a 7800X3D and B650E-I with an 8700G and short of me messing around tweaking them which is guaranteed to cause problems at some point while you are pushing the limits, they have been rock solid. The only real Issue i had was with the DDR5 7800 I put in the 8700G PC and that was literally the RAM's problem as the timings are so poor out of the box, but I did resolve that. I am happy enough that I am not even looking at the next Intel CPU given I upgrade each gen (I don't smoke, drink or do drugs, my vice is gadgets, which is probably cheaper as well), I am waiting to see what the 9800X3D is is like. I did like like sticking with intel as old CPUs once they had done the rounds with family and friends and I had passed on newer one to them, were great for my Plex server thanks to Quicksync, but now I have and Arc A310 and thats a class of card that is cheap to upgrade and better than the CPU igpu equivalent and is CPU agnostic, so now I have choices instead of the latest i9 or whatever Intel calls them next.
I'll be making a starter pc for my bro soon. Want to avoid intel with the recent problems, so AM4 vs. AM5 is very relevant to me. The machine's going to be very budget to start, only aiming for 1080p, so AM5 feels like a overpaying on the cpu/motherboard/probably ddr5 ram... but I want future upgrades to be both readily available and as simple as simple as possible.
Man, I got lucky, I guess. I built a new AM5 system last April (2023) with a Ryzen 7700 (non-X), MSI X670-P Pro Wifi motherboard and 32 G.Skill Trident DDR5 6000Mhz and it's all worked fine, EXPO enabled. Boot/post times were a bit long, but that's been resolved in recent BIOS updates.
I watched the first video from this topic and I gotta say, went from am4 to am5 about a week ago. Specifically from a ryzen 5800x3D to a ryzen 7800x3D. First thing I love about the new generation is the power efficiency. I use the same aio cooler corsair h100i pro rgb xt and it's using lower power,5-10 degrees cooler and of course better performance. It's amazing how efficient are the new cpus from am5. You're making awesome content and you deserve all the credit for it!
Thanks for this, just built my first pc and literally have been dealing with the boot issue. Btw it’s odd how asus qvl does not list the ram I have but the g skill qvl list says that it’s compatible with my asus mobo 🤷🏻♂️
@@ErockOnTech I sure do hope they will update their QVL. So I got 2X32GB F5-6000J3040G32GX2-TZ5NR and paired it with ASUS Rog Strix B650E-F mobo, 7800X3D and Rog Strix 4090 OC. So far, it’s operating normal I suppose, no crashes or problem when I’m gaming. Only whenever I have to restart the PC, I would have a hard time to get it to POST. It would get hung up on red CPU debug light or the green Boot light. So I just never turned it off I only put it on sleep whenever it’s not in use.
Oh man i waited for zen 5 to launch to build a new system and now that is ended up being a flop everything is higher price than it used to be 6 months ago, such a bad spot.
I've been building AMD PC's for over 10 years now and had very little issues. Prices have calmed down a bit so if you're building a new PC then hop on AM5. I have the 7800x3d paired with 7800xt and it's been a beast of a combo. For ram I run Trident Z 64gb cl30 6000 kit and haven't had any issues yet.
I have had a 7700x a 7900x and 7800x3d, I had some issues with ddr5 at the begging. I thought the fault were the motherboards, I replaced 3 different ones, but at the end it was the g.skill memory kit that was given by microcenter... Once I replaced problems went away. Performance is in another level, I have a gigabyte x670e motherboard and it workd great with any ram I have tried. No I have a 64gb 6400 MTs cl32 waiting for the 9800x3d
I will say that a fresh windows install with updated BIOS nearly resolved all RAM related / DRAM light issues I was having on ROG b650e-i and my RAM is not on the QVL, running EXPO and undervolted just fine
That’s good to know. I just had a tragedy happen. Was cleaning my pc and as I took the cooler off, my 5700x came out bending several pins. I still have a working pc because I still have my 1700x. The performance drop is real. This wouldn’t haven with a lga platform.
Ouch! That's why I always heat up my CPUs with stress test software before removing the coolers to soften up the thermal paste. Btw, the pins on a motherboard are much more delicate and harder to fix if damaged and should be handled with even more care. The thought of my CPU slipping out of my fingers and dropping onto the motherboard pins as I'm installing it still gives me nightmares. 😄
Man... the PTSD from when I bent my Pentium 4 Extreme pins in 2004... that was the last time that happened to me though haha. I had to drop in a Celeron til I could replace it, I'd guess that was a pretty similar performance drop at the time haha. Not for nothing, but you can bend pins on an LGA just as easily, and they're even more nightmarish to fix than PGA.
@@bgtubber it felt like I had it loose. One last twist as I removed it and the cpu followed. The last twist bent the pins. Even with bifocals, I don’t think I can repair it. I bought the 5700x because of all the teething issues the AM5 was having.
My gskill 6000 kit had to be tun at 5600 then it got better and was stable at 5800 and now its stable at 6000 and no issues on a 7700x. Def gotten better with micro code updates and bios updates
Built my first 7 7800x3d with 4070Ti Super. Got corsair 6400MHz CL36 DDR5 16x2 RAM sticks and the pc ran perfectly. I turned on Expo after a proper bios flash and windows installation and it ran well for a couple hours. When I restarted it to finish an update. The PC was on the TUF black screen. I flashed the bios with a flat head screw driver. Then it sent me to the tuf B650 bios. i left the expo overclock off, and the pc had a problem booting on restart again. Now I know how to do a proper overclock to 5200Mhz, and I'll be good. Thanks to Erock.
I've a 7950x3d with a Asus x670e and 64gb of RAM at 6000 mt/s cl 30 that's not on qvl ,and it needed a bios update to work. But now it's been flawless for months
I wanted to get a AM5 system, but my computer died a couple months before it released so I built a AM4 5900 XT with 64 GB of G Skill 4000 MHz RAM (couldn't get it over 2666). Think I got memory for an Intel not an AMD, but PC Part Picker didn't show a conflict. Next system going to try to make sure the RAM is mor compatible but finances are tight so going to be a few years before I can build something new.
I still have boot issues like that with my system bro. Just FYI. July 22 24. Thank you for explaining bro. now I know why my RAM speed has been stuck at 3600 lol
No problem. I’m happy I could help. Are you having booting issues while the ram is at 3600? Or is it only when you try to go above that? What is your motherboard and ram combo?
@@ErockOnTech I can't get the ram to go any faster than 3600. I have 4 dims of G skill 6000 set to 6000 but it won't go above 3600. My motherboard is the MSI X670E Carbon Wifi with a 7900x
@@noobtube1911Well if you set it to 6000 in the bios, then it will either take 6000 and boot or it won’t boot. When it doesn’t boot and you restart, it will default back to 3600. So yeah this means your system cannot handle 4 sticks at 3600. Take two sticks out and try 6000. See if that works.
My damn board didnt accept the first ram kit i tried which was on the websites qvl list. I bought a new one and it worked. AM5 and Ram compatibility can be very annoying. Anyways got it working and love my ryzen 7800 x3d combined with my 4080 super
The point you made about AMD only "officially" supporting 5200Mhz RAM. I'm glad you pointed that out, but to be completely fair to the random people of the internet, AMD has to take a considerable amount of blame for that confusion. You may not be aware of this, but back when the first AM5 reviews started going out, AMD supplied all of the reviewers with not only the CPUs and motherboard, but also the RAM. And strongly encouraged reviewers to review AM5 using the DDR5 6000 modules as they (AMD) themselves, at that time, claimed they felt it was the sweetspot for AM5 performance. This is not something the community coined, it was AMD themselves that pushed that understanding because they wanted their CPUs to be reviewed in the best possible light even though they didn't "officially" support it. So you can't really blame the community for coming away from reviews with "an understanding or impression" when it was AMD that pushed that narrative in the first place. I even commented at the time that I felt it was a little disingenuous for AMD to push the 6000Mhz narrative when they only officially support 5200Mhz as outlined by their own product pages. Regardless of whether I agreed with their assessment of 6000Mhz or not, it doesn't change the fact that the review baseline scores published by all the major tech outlets reflect performance metrics that AMD don't officially support. In the past, numbers garnered under those kinds of conditions would've been highlighted and tagged as "overclocked" metrics, because they were outside "officially" supported conditions. But for some reason, this time, AMD managed to present a picture that this is the performance everyone would get, when that just wasn't the case. Now 6000Mhz is really easy to hit today. I'm running 64GB of 6000CL30 on my 7950X right now. And while I am happy with it, I still think the reviews should've highlighted those numbers as "overclocked" or "DDR5-6000" metrics and AMD never should've been allowed to dictate a testing configuration to push a "baseline" metrics narrative that's not officially supported. It's ethically dishonest, pure and simple. But to be fair, Intel does the same thing, so I can't really single AMD out on that one.
wow :o I had those booting issues too, everytime when I connected it to a different monitor it show that my Mainboard shows "This system has posted into safemode due to some problems"... I tried everything, in the End, lowering the RAM Frequency from 6000MHz to 5600MHz was the magical thing to make this Problems disappear... Ironically, when I set it back to 6000MHz after booting once into Windows with the lower frequency, it worked perfectly fine till this issue appeared again... I thought it was the RAM Speed and my 7800X3D just couldn't handle it, but maybe this is the issue... I already updated my BIOS cause it was still on mid 2023, where all 7800X3D's blew up, but maybe it fixed this issue with booting and the RAM Frequency too
Hello. I am running 8700k and my mother board is failing and in need to upgrade. Should i go with new 9000 or should i go with 8700 while the prices are cheap? And what CPY do you recommend that will be in bar at least with 8700k. Thank you in advance
The 7000 series still is early AM5 with some issues, it's just that most now are known and circumvented well enough. This, and better prices, make AM5 a recommendation for NEW HIGHEND systems - low to midrange, especially the bang for the buck category, may still want to check out Zen 3 / Ryzen 5000 to this day. What has changed is the CPU recommendation for at least entry level AM5 - the Ryzen 7800X3D still is the gaming king, and apparently still on eye level even with the announced early Zen 5. Those new Zen 4 CPUs are: - Ryzen 8000 series, most notably the Ryzen 5 8600G, which offers a lot of performance and 1080p entry level gaming at a very good price. - Ryzen 7 7735HS, a CPU with equal graphics performance and comparable total performance to the 8600G, which can be found in many notebooks and mini PCs. So, while still very good, I wouldn't buy 7500F, 7600 and 7600X anymore, simply because there now are better options for less.

I am still having issues with the AM5 7950X3D on ASUS X670E Crosshair Extreme with Corsair Dominator Platinum 6000 Ddr5. Eh I’m still having crashes. Specifically playing WoW. System just crashes then reboots itself with a Radeon report issue pop up right after. Happens so often. I updated bios today still happening
I’m curious on how many people buy a Zen 5 CPU, put it in their X670E motherboard and wonder why it won’t post. AMD won’t have X870E motherboards available at launch of 9000 series.
Considering the current issue about Intel CPUs, AM5 is definetly the way to go. However I'd say one should wait until 800-series motherboards come out.
Why? the biggest deal with the 800 series is USB 4 support. If you want a top end X series board, sure. Wait for the X870E boards. Otherwise, just get a good B650E. Just make sure your new MB support PCIe gen 5x16 if you wish to keep it for some years.
The only issue I've had with AM5 is that I'm stuck with old AGESA 1.0.0.7c bios. Any newer is making my settings unstable and I run hynix A-die ram at 6400cl30-38-30-44 and all other timings manually tuned, FCLK@2133 and -40 CO. I can stabilize it by upping SoC voltage above 1.26v, but don't really want to go close to 1.3v. Other than that on newer bios I get few % worse performance. Can't really tell if Gigabyte f'd something with bios on their side or is it agesa microcode.
I would wager it’s probably a Gigabyte issue. My Asus board has the latest bios and I don’t have any issues at all. My Gigabyte board also has the latest bios and I have noticed a few hiccups here and there but I wasn’t sure if it was related to the board itself or other RGB controllers I was messing with at the time. But based on your findings, it sounds like a Gigabyte board issue. Also, keep in mind, Gigabyte has issued about 3 revisions to their motherboards this generation. That tells me there was a lot wrong they needed to fix. Any idea what revision you have?
@@ErockOnTech it's X670 Aorus Elite rev 1.2. One thing I must point out is that although I have a bit worse performance with newer bioses, I experience less stuttering in some games. If I wouldn't have to up my SoC voltage for stability, I would probably use the newest.

I'm happy you found this helpful! Thank you for letting me know!
Thank you! I appreciate it! Yes, the new AMD CPUs are supported by AM5.
Sorry that you had to go through all this with AMD and then Intel, but I'm glad that AM5 is in a much better place now than it was at launch. I'm happy with my Ryzen 7 3700X and will probably run it until 2026 sometime but it's still good to stay in the loop and see what's going on. I'm glad AM5 is doing better. I was forced to try gaming on the PC platform again (PS5 controller is too thick for me to hold, and I hate Xbox always online/monthly forced updates)
However I've ran into so many problems with PC.
Awesome!
@lege3018 Thanks I'll check it out!

For your ASUS x670e-e which BIOS are you using? I am having nothing but issues with all Bios that support the for 7950x3d.
@@ShaneDocPuff I have the latest bios of April 2024.

@@45eno Ah makes sense. Thank you for explaining.

You're making awesome content and you deserve all the credit for it!
and the new generation only seems to be more efficient. intell gotta step it up or amd will start dominating to hard and become even pricier xD
Perfect timing on the switch! I'm happy it's working so well for you.
Thanks for this, just built my first pc and literally have been dealing with the boot issue. Btw it’s odd how asus qvl does not list the ram I have but the g skill qvl list says that it’s compatible with my asus mobo 🤷🏻♂️
That is odd. But the QVL is maintained by Asus. So maybe they are behind on updating it? Did you get your booting issues resolved?
@@ErockOnTech And in addition I have updated the Bios to the most recent one thinking what would fix the instability or booting issue.
Oh man i waited for zen 5 to launch to build a new system and now that is ended up being a flop everything is higher price than it used to be 6 months ago, such a bad spot.
Keep your head up. Holidays are coming. I know there will be deals!
Like I said in the video, many people's AM5 problems can be attributed to RAM kits. Thanks for sharing! I'm also excited for the 9800x3d.
AMD changed the release dates for the new lineup - 8th august 2024 for 9600x & 9700x - 15th august 2024 for 9900x & 9950x
Yes, I saw that. That was announced 2 days after this video went live.

@@noobtube1911Well if you set it to 6000 in the bios, then it will either take 6000 and boot or it won’t boot. When it doesn’t boot and you restart, it will default back to 3600. So yeah this means your system cannot handle 4 sticks at 3600. Take two sticks out and try 6000. See if that works.

But to be fair, Intel does the same thing, so I can't really single AMD out on that one.
wow :o
I had those booting issues too, everytime when I connected it to a different monitor it show that my Mainboard shows "This system has posted into safemode due to some problems"...

@@ErockOnTech gigabyte gaming v2 x670 motherboard, g.skill flare 6000 RAM
I just finished watching the video in the intro and I this immediately popped up
The 7000 series still is early AM5 with some issues, it's just that most now are known and circumvented well enough.
Those new Zen 4 CPUs are:
- Ryzen 8000 series, most notably the Ryzen 5 8600G, which offers a lot of performance and 1080p entry level gaming at a very good price.
What about corsair ram? It's a very common one especially at bestbuy, since about all they sell ram wise

I’m curious on how many people buy a Zen 5 CPU, put it in their X670E motherboard and wonder why it won’t post. AMD won’t have X870E motherboards available at launch of 9000 series.
That’s a good question. They will need to update the bios for sure.
Am4 had similar issues at launch I struggled to get 3200 on my 32gb kit at the time
The only issue I've had with AM5 is that I'm stuck with old AGESA 1.0.0.7c bios.

Other than that this build is a beast, with a 240mm AIO, the CPU never goes hotter than 60C while gaming, 4070Ti never goes over 65C at 100% usage, fans aren't even running at full speed
Dual rank stick remain hit n miss with am5 especially with samsung and micron chips
@@Oz-gv5fz mine isn't samsung, well it's not really a big difference between 5200mhz and 6000mhz, especially coming from 3000mhz
Try turning off EXPO and just setting the values in Buildzoids Ryzen 7000 video. You might have better luck.
@@jjlw2378 that's crazy, I followed the first video I found and it's been running 6000Mhz stable for 3 hours now, didn't think it would actually be that simple. Thanks!
i have the 7950x3D and if i run expo its crashes every time. i have the asus rog strix b650-a and trident z neo 64gb 6200hz. even after bios update it crashes and yes i put the ram down to 6000hz, is it the motherboard or ram thats the issue?
The only issue with AM5 is the pricing of cpu's and boards.
Please help, my computer crashes when I play intensive games like cyberpunk 2077. I have an AMD Ryzen 5 7600X, an MSI MAG B650 Tomahawk Wi-Fi Motherboard, and I stupidly purchased Kingston Fury 5200 MT/s DDR5 non-EXPO version RAM. Should I update my BIOS to fix this or purchase EXPO version RAM? please help 🙏 🙏 🙏
Not every issue, I still have many issues, even though mine is more stable than before, it still isn't on the top 10 of the system I built. Done hundreds since the early 90's
RMA MB, processor, and RAM, time, effort and money spent and still having issues. Asus is usually to blame here as they are very consistent in providing low quality products and really bad support
I am still on Asus BIOS 0.421. Should I upgrade? 🙃
lol 😂 umm I would say yes
I think AM5 is still too expensive for me. I just built my AM4 system this year.
The only issue I've ever had with my 7800x3d is it wont run at -30 curve. -25 runs perfect. Silicon lottery I guess.
Mines also just all set to -25. It's good enough.
-25 is good enough. But yeah silicon lottery. Mine can do -35. Luck of the draw I guess.
@@ErockOnTech mine will run with -30. But prime95 fails on 2 cores after about 30 min. So I just use -25.
@@williamholmes8339 That's wise. Better to be safe than sorry.
@@ErockOnTech it really is an amazing CPU. And not just for gaming. It video edits and handles production tasks just fine as well. Gonna skip this 9000 launch unless X3D chips show major uplift.
All those great things you mentioned you forgot to mention CPU temps. AMD states that’s just fine running Ryzen close to 90 C. As long as not exceeding safe operating temps. It’s like a car manufacturer selling you a car telling you:- Listen your car red line it’s 7000 RPM. But we designed engine to run 6900 RPM. It’s 100 RPM lower than blowing your engine. So it’s fine don’t worry. Would you buy that car and telling how the rest of people great that car is?
@@gametestinglab8861 My temps never come close to 90c. The worst I get is 70 c. It’s called curve optimizer. More people should use it.
