Well said. It is an APS-C format which doesn’t seem to be quite the “thing” it use to be. As a Nikon D7100 who is happy with his camera EXCEPT really wants/needs the size and weight of mirrorless, this Fuji looks nice and at a competitive price point. My biggest issue with Fuji is being limited to only Fuji lenses and their price point.

Just ordered this as our first proper camera setup. Watched so many reviews and guides and instructional videos. Yours was very clear, fair, and beautifully illustrated. Thank you! Outstanding honest review, thanks! This camera may tip the scales in favor of Fuji for me. Having sold all my Nikon glass to weather the mirrorless wars, deciding b/w Fuji and Sony has been the battle... I wish Fuji would open their API for 3rd party lenses. A used A7RIII and the Tammy 28-200 will probably win out, but the S-10 is very tempting along many lines... just the articulating screen alone is a pretty significant form factor advantage. Thanks again!
This makes sense since the X-T200 has very similar controls. Some have bought into the lenses and now want a higher end body but with very familiar layout that the higher end X-T don't have.
Well done review after watching several today! Appreciated your content and style.....I have Fuji's XH1 and XT2, with most use with the XH1, preferring the bigger grip and IBIS. Might sell the XT2 in the days ahead and shift to X-S10 as a second smaller body with updated specs. The shift in controls is no big deal to me. BTW, had the XT30 but sold because felt too small re: grip for me.
Thank you for a great review SnapChick! Got this camera with the 16-80mm to get into the Fujifilm system and also use my "old" Canon EF compatible lenses with a Fringer adapter. It works wonderfully and I am very and happily surprised.
Great Review of this Cam! Very nice stills and Videos. You said you also used non-Fuji-lenses on the x-s10. Which ones did you try and which adapter did you use? How were your experiences? Mandy thanks!
To: SnapChick and Hugh - Thanks to both of you for your recent videos on this camera. I am an ancient old SLR/DSLR geezer who is only now in the process of seriously shopping for my first mirrorless camera as a travel alternative to my wonderful, but all-too-heavy Nikon D850. Being a mostly Nikon guy (but, not a fanboy), I had been just trying to decide between the Z6 and new little Z5. But, the result of your two videos is that I will give a serious look at the X-S10. I have no idea what motivated Fuji, but for me, the new PASM dial approach does make this camera more appealing. Not only is it more familiar, coming from the Nikons, but to me it just seems more practical. I mean the physical shutter speed dial is a nice homage to the past - and indeed the cameras I grew up with - but to heck with that when you are trying to get the exact shot you want as quickly as you can. I can’t speak for others, but for me the PASM with two control dials is just more facile and faster. The biggest question I have to answer for myself is whether I want to back off from full frame to crop for my travel photos. Methinks I need to try this one out and compare images from it and one of my Nikon FF’s. For, as I told Hugh over the weekend: In the end, the love you take is equal to the images you make. :-) All the best. Thanks again. JW
@@johnwheat1542 - I'm certain you will be disappointed John if you compare images from the X-S10 with your Nikon. Stick with full frame, Z6ii or Z7ii or wait for the followup to the Z50 if you want compact, due end of this year.
@@davidhenderson5051 David, Thanks. I have no doubt you are right about that. I was already thinking that while the X-S10 looks very appealing on size, shooting experience and ergonomics, I would likely be disappointed in the images. I do a lot of landscape work where dynamic range and resolution are important. I am still in the market for a smaller, lighter travel set up to take when the D850 and its glass are just too heavy. I may get the Z5 & Z 24-200mm for that. But, I’m still keeping the D850. The images are just too gorgeous - as you indicated. I think that camera has probably spoiled me on IQ. Again, thanks for the comment and “talking me back into reality.” :-) Best, John
FujiFilm adding IBIS has been a game changer for me -- the X-S10 body looks extremely promising for me -- but interested in your analysis of that 16-80mm lens -- just not sure whether it is worth the extra $500 to purchase that bundle over the body alone. Thanks!
This seems to be the perfect next camera for me. I'm a Panasonic MFT user and I strongly consider leaving the system with Olympus selling out and Panasonic focusing on FF. I don't think the switch from the G9 to this would be difficult. Any thoughts? Plus it would pair great with an X110VI...
The first camera I've bought in something like 30 years. Have to say my mind is blown. I know nothing about digitals, but I do know something about Japanese companies. Fujifilm has a great reputation here.
Thank you for this awesome and detailed review! I'm just planning to buy a camera, but I'm still hesitating. I don't know which one would be the best for landscape, travel and street photography from X-S10, XT30 M2, Nikon Z50 or maybe Sony A6400? Which one would you recommend in terms of image quality and low light performance and focus accuracy for the above mentioned styles/modes? Thank you so much for your answers and help! 😀✌️
Fuji’s middle line products offers the best value. If I planned to buy this camera., I would wait 9 months when the used market price drops to around $700 and buy a lightly used one in excellent condition. Of course, if you are in a hurry to try something new or need a new camera immediately, then it’s a different story.
Thank you, great video as usual. I have an interest in this camera because of its compactness and does seem to have a great feature set. I have been shooting for 50+ years. One of my favorites was a Pentax ME Super with a 40 mm pancake lense. There is the compact desire. Thanks again , nice images as well. You rocked it with the Hassy XD.
Great review, well thought out! My only question - I noticed you used the XF16-80mm f4 lens with the X-S10. What about the XF 18-55mm f2.8-4 lens? Does it make sense to go with a wider aperture lens though give up a little in zoom range?
I want a deeper grip and occasionally something that isn't so far provided by Fuji's classic control scheme: custom modes. Usually I shoot leisurely and deliberately and I appreciate Fuji's classic controls but when I'm shooting something that needs quick reaction times I welcome the option to have quickly selectable custom modes :)
I don’t get all the reviewers being thrown off by the PASM dial. There are 3 customizable dials to assign ISO and shutter speed to. The only thing that really makes this camera unique is the ergo grip.
Appreciate this review. Recently switched from a Canon DSLR to the X-T200 and...I'm not really happy with it. I don't feel I have the control I want and while the compactness is nice it just doesn't FEEL like I want a camera to feel. This makes me want to consider selling the X-T200 and buying this instead. I'm equally interested in photo and video but the XT-4 is just too far out of my price range (and skill range, honestly) for now so this might be a good middle ground. I'm still grumbling about leaving DSLRs behind but...I travel a lot so I think I need to accept mirrorless as the way forward.
I am thinking that Fuji has made another great choice when it comes to their cameras. I have watched a number of videos of the X-s 10 and noticed a few reviewers have complained about the shutter release button having a lot of travel before pre focus and release. Did you find this with your sample?
I have had my eye on Fuji cameras for a while, but have not been able to end up with an X-T3/X-T4 yet. I am wanting to make videos as well as photography, and my current camera doesn't have an input for an external mic... I am thinking that this camera, with the 18-55 would be a perfect way into the Fuji X system... not to mention Sigma/Tamron don't seem to be making K-mount lenses much anymore, and the Pentax 70-200/2.8 is a bit more pricey ...lol. Do you think the kit lens would be good for video, general photos and snapshots, and also make at least decent portraits until I can get something with a wider aperture? I'd love the 50-140/2.8, and possibly a teleconverter for it eventually. First would likely be the 56mm, then the longer zoom, then the fast 16mm and 35mm primes... do you think amy of the above would work for macro-ish closeups of painted miniatures...? They're fairly detailed little gaming figures in the ramge of 1 to 2 inches tall... Lastly, for outings like camping, or day trips, or sports events that are all day/weekend, would you suggest getting a couple extra batteries and a separate charger? Can't fathom for a $1400 camera/lens kit that they make you buy the charger separately... Thanks for the video, hope to check out more of your channel soon...
Hi Leigh, Thank you for The SnapChick channel. We need more people like you and Raymond. From your own experience, should I go for a fuji XS10 (the unnatural choice) or a Nikon Z50 (the natural choice) as an APS-C second camera to my Z6II? Fuji magic with the added expense or Nikon because of the ecosystem? Have you tried the XS10 with Nikon F mount lenses? Thank you for your time.
Best review of this camera I've watched thru! Very thorough and realistic approach. Ugh I want this camera so bad. Do you think it would be decent for sports video? I'm wondering how the rolling shutter is like... Thank u!
Because Fuji totally needs another potpourri camera name. Thanks for the video. PASM not a deal breaker for me. I prefer a larger less noisy sensor and high dynamic range. Correctly exposing highlights (even slightly under exposing) in low light with enough detail left to pull from shadows is vital to me and in this regard Sony wins when factoring in AF performance and range of glass options.
Great review, thank you. This was exactly the camera I was looking (waiting) for. I am going to pre order it. I am still in doubt whether I should order it with the 18-55 f2.8-4 or the 16-80 f4 lens. What are your thoughts? Do you have any preference?
I have used both lenses on an XE3 and XT3. although I have used the 18-55mm and loved it for many years, I now have the 16-80mm almost always on either of my cameras and sold the 18-55mm, in spite of being smaller, lighter and having a 2.8-4 f. Personal choice, image quality, better stabilization, versatility (including being able to get much closer to the subject).
I would stay with the 18-55 as it is a faster lease and a little sharper. If you need the extra reach get a Vitoria 85mm F1.8. You can get a 18-55 pre owned plus the Viltrox 85 mkII for the same price as the 16-80.
Always such a pleasure listening to your reviews. Of course you are very beautiful but your work is all respect. It’s been about three years of watching your videos, both you and the other gentleman have done some great work. Cheers
Good question! I did not use it with any Fuji lenses but I did use it with an adapter and my Nikon 200-500mm f/5.6 F mount lens. I didn't even think about spacing/ergonomics while doing it, which tells me the answer... It's good!
@@LeighAndRaymond which adapter lets you control the aperture on the 200-500? As far as I know, because I have that lens also, that lens is electronically controlled aperture, and as far as I’ve seen, there are no electrically connected adapters for Nikon F on Fuji X
Hi Thanks for the review, very helpful. I’m going to purchase the X S10 and I need a lense recommendation. I’m new to photography and I’ll be focusing Mainly in outdoor and wildlife. For a first good all around lense should I go with one of the kit lenses or something else ? Thanks
Hi Leigh, I just bought my X-S10 and am deciding for a travel lens. In the video you mentioned the 16-80 f4, but I've seen the 18-135 and it gives a bit better zoom. Yes, it is a bit heavier, yes it is f5.6 at 135mm, but on the other hand the 16-80 has f4 at 16mm (as opposed to my current kit lens 18-55 where I have f2.8 at 18mm). Now, I'm not obsessed with the f stops too much, but can you explain why 16-80mm is considered more of a pro lens? Both are weather sealed. Have you had the chance to try this bigger zoom as well? Thanks for your thoughts in advance!
Thank you for the review) I'm tending to buy this camera and your video proved that I've made the right choice. Have a question for you: what power bank do u use with x s10, is there any specific model or any will do?
Hi! Nice work! Im new to your channel and its refreshing to see a woman doing camera reviews. Im trying to decide between the Fuji Xt4 and Sony A73. I have binged a few of your videos allready! Thanks and keep up the great work! BTW...is the Fuji XT4 fast enough to shoot sports? I mean the autofocus and maybe the 55- 210 lense? I cant afford the 50 -140 2.8. Thanks
After watching your review of the Nikon Z50 I was going to buy that - but now its hard to make a case for it. For a little more money one gets IBIS and a alot higher resolution sensor, more video options and the film sims. Your thoughts?
It's not a "little" money if you compare price with the kit and tele lens :) Depends on if you want to add more lenses in the future. Not much Z DX glass in sight. Compact 28 and 40mm Z are coming but no wide angle or macro for DX.
@@stanleygabrel5279 I like Nikon colors better too. I feel like the z50 is a better camera than z5 and my skills don’t merit a z6... having said that not sure z50 is better than the X-S10
@@patrick.771 Saw sever al vids where photogs are showing that the Fuji lenses are sharp in the middle but soft on the edges or corners... not sure i would notice though. Still leaning towards z50 because any glass i buy - the z mount or f mount with adapter i can still use if i upgrade to a z6 in the future.
@@aaronjaffe4931 I know. Especially the Fuji zoom lenses. Nikon Z lenses should be better but you lose the F2.8 or constant F4 apperture (depending on what Fuji lens you compare it with). Christopher Frost makes the best lens reviews in my opinon. The Fuji 16-80 is a bit soft.
I'm looking for a good moto-vlogging camera and was wondering if you can turn this on and use it with the LCD folded in on itself, protected still. Do you know? Thanks for the great video.
I like the deep grip (and have smaller hands) Compared with the XT30, it feels secure to use with one hand I’d like to know if the autofocus is better? Does IS make much difference for stills?
This is an Amazing Review..! You are Honest, Pleasant and excited at the same time, I have been looking at many Reviews on the Fujifilm X-S10, Other Reviewers mostly liked this little camera aswell, but I really liked the way you Present it, and iam going to go for it. My new little Family Camera is soon a Fujifilm x-s10 🙂. Once again Thank you for your great Review 👍 AJ Ottawa
But ibis does matter. The Fuji is going to get a lot more pictures and videos that the Nikon wont. Also the native lens choices are far greater and more affordable (compared to the sline lenses)
@@ehtcom a lot more pictures than Nikon won't? The only scenario I could imagine is very low shutter speeds hand held. And even with the stabilised Nikon lenses you can shoot at 1/6 or 1/8. I know the general differences, just curious about handling, ergonomics, build quality, etc. :)
@@patrick.771 the Z50 has 2 native lens with cheap plastic mounts. Also both are pretty slow (f3.5-6.3 on the 16-50 and f4.5-6.3 on the 50-300), so low light pictures and videos will be hard. I'd take the X-S10 with the 18-55 f2.8-4 over the Z50 dual lens kit. Both kits the same price down under.
IBIS supporting lower shutter speed is more useful than it sounds. If you want to increase depth of field, or show movement, IBIS gives you more creative options without a tripod, and keeping the ISO low for high quality images. In-lens optical image stabilization cannot compensate for camera shake that rotates the camera along the symmetry axis of the lens.
Hey Leigh, thanks for the great informative review on the X-S10. I have just invested in one with the 16-80mm F4 lens. I noticed that you mentioned converting some non Fujifilm lenses which really interests me as before moving over to Fujifilm I used Nikon and I have few lenses namely the AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G and the Sigma MACRO 105mm F2.8 EX DG OS HSM. So I was hoping that you could give me some advise on the adapter that you used and whether it is auto or manual focus?
Great video!! Thanks for the review. I think many of us are wondering about the implementation of the C modes. How do they work? Can you customize camera operation or only JPG output?
Great and detailed review; compliments! The small battery is my biggest concern but a powerbank is always helpfull. Curious what the X-T3 update will bring besides classic negative. Kind regards from Will in the Netherlands. 👊😎
Next time you want to process raws of a new camera, just change the EXIF information to an older model with the same sensor. exiftool can do it as a batch operation.
Short question do you test the camera with adapted Telephoto Lens like Nikon 70-200 and with IBIS handheld how slow the shutter speed can you take the image sharp tack at the 200mm? I have 100mm R APO Macro Elmarit I wish those IBIS will help the steaedyness without using the tripod...
Hi Leigh, I tried to look here if anyone asked you about that small lens? What is that small lens you are using at the canyon edge? looks like a manual one?
Yet another amazing review...thank you. What I want to ask is where would you place it in respect of the XH1 and XT3? I rely heavily on my XT3 when I am out doing landscape photography, however, my XH1 doesn't get much action at all...I just don't seem to get on with it. I am considering letting my XH1 go and replacing it with the XS10, what do you think? Again, thanks for the amazing content :)...I don't suppose you know when it will hit the shops for sale do you? Thanks.
The X-S10 is really a mix of the two cameras. You obviously like Fuji, so I think you'll like this camera, but definitely try to get it in your hands to try it out. Also, they start shipping mid-month. :)
I always enjoy your reviews! I've decided to get a better camera for wildlife photos and I was looking at the Fuji X-t4 albeit a little on the pricey side for me. After seeing your review of the XS-10 this morning I'm feeling excited as this could be a good alternative. My last big camera was a film SLR so I have no preferences of the new controls on DSLR's. I see many of the features of this XS-10 are similar to the XT4. I like the bigger grip as I will be using longer focal length lenses a lot. They are predicting the price to be about the 1k range....Sooo my question is do YOU feel the XS-10 is as capable and easy to use as the XT-4...? Thank you for sharing your videos!
I haven't used the X-T4 but I did use the X-T3. In terms of ease of use and ergonomics, it's really going to be a personal preference. Do you want the mode dial or not? Looking at specs of the X-T4 versus the X-S10, you'll achieve the same image quality on both cameras and the autofocus will be fast on both, but the X-T4 can shoot more frames per second with the mechanical shutter, which may be helpful for you in your wildlife work.
@@monlegaspi thanks for your prompt reply. I have Nikon G lenses and unfortunately, based on Viltrox website, the adaptors they have for Fuji do not have autofocus :(
Not so sure there are "no bad cameras" out there. Sony managed to suck the life out of photography for me. One thing you didn't mention was EVF quality. I'm worried it's too small or resolution is too low. For me, 3.69m dots - or whatever, is the minimum, but that's not available in this price range.

Beautiful shots here and quite detailed review. Thanks and well done!
Nicely done!
Thanks, Hugh! :)
@@johnwheat1542 Amen... All the best with your photographic journey... ;o))
I also think it will be a joy to use. I feel like Fuji made this camera for me. The last time I felt like this is when Sony came out with the A7III.
FujiFilm adding IBIS has been a game changer for me -- the X-S10 body looks extremely promising for me -- but interested in your analysis of that 16-80mm lens -- just not sure whether it is worth the extra $500 to purchase that bundle over the body alone. Thanks!
I was about to get the Z50 when this came out. The IBIS and film simulations are indeed game changers
Almost perfect and I will purchase. Would have loved weather sealing as live on rainy Dartmoor in the UK
Calm ever review of a camera I've ever came cross. I'm your new subscriber from Malaysia.
Great vid Omar 👍 I appreciate the quality of the video, the sound and of course the images 👍 NICE!
Wrong channel XD
I don’t get all the reviewers being thrown off by the PASM dial. There are 3 customizable dials to assign ISO and shutter speed to. The only thing that really makes this camera unique is the ergo grip.
A well thought out and executed review. Great job.
Thank you for the great review! :) I cant decide on choosing the X-T3 or the X-S10
If it's a problem, you could always use back button focus instead.
Thank you for a great review. Loved it, you are passionate and that’s a wonderful feeling.
Love your simple and honest review. Thank you
Hi Leigh,
Thank you for The SnapChick channel.
No silver version for the X-S10 bummer..
Do you have any preference?
same
I have used both lenses on an XE3 and XT3. although I have used the 18-55mm and loved it for many years, I now have the 16-80mm almost always on either of my cameras and sold the 18-55mm, in spite of being smaller, lighter and having a 2.8-4 f. Personal choice, image quality, better stabilization, versatility (including being able to get much closer to the subject).
Get the 16mm 1.4 it’s flippin amazing
@@Edmonotone thanks for your feedback!
Cheers
Did you try the camera with bigger lenses such as the 100-400mm? I wonder if the spacing works out with the grip on such a small body.
Hi
Thanks for the review, very helpful. I’m going to purchase the X S10 and I need a lense recommendation. I’m new to photography and I’ll be focusing
Mainly in outdoor and wildlife. For a first good all around lense should I go with one of the kit lenses or something else ?
Thanks
Thank you for your review! What camera did you use for that video while shooting your “speaking head” parts?☺️ I love quality
Hi Leigh,
I just bought my X-S10 and am deciding for a travel lens.
Thank you - for someone new wanting to shoot landscape would you recommend this lens or a different one? Fuji 17-80mm f/4...
A different one of course.
Thank you for the review) I'm tending to buy this camera and your video proved that I've made the right choice. Have a question for you: what power bank do u use with x s10, is there any specific model or any will do?
Good review. Nicely presented. Especially the hands on explanation of the dials. 👍
I always enjoy your thoughtful reviews. What was that beautiful adapted manual lens you used?
you words really inspired, your expressions too.
lol
Always a pleasure to listen to
This seems like it's more geared towards video, maybe that's why they removed the dials as a video user would not use them necessarily.
And then they make the custom settings on the mode dial only work for stills. But I guess that can be fixed with a firmware update.
Hi!
Thanks
Great review. What would be your advice for a TH-camr between this and XT 4?
Great Video. Same here. love fuji colors and spending less time @ the computer. I always have the Raw files anyway if I really needed. Good day
This is a truly excellent review. Very engaging.
After watching your review of the Nikon Z50 I was going to buy that - but now its hard to make a case for it. For a little more money one gets IBIS and a alot higher resolution sensor, more video options and the film sims. Your thoughts?
Yes, I have this dilemma as well. But I like Nikon colors better, so I am not sure what I will do.
It's not a "little" money if you compare price with the kit and tele lens :)
Depends on if you want to add more lenses in the future.
Great review, very professional and researched, thank you!
Did you mention something about the ISO range and it's performance in low light?
Excellent video 😉👍
I like the deep grip (and have smaller hands)
Compared with the XT30, it feels secure to use with one hand
I’d like to know if the autofocus is better?
Does IS make much difference for stills?
Why did they send the camera back? i am satisfied with the camera Fufjifilm x-s10?
This is an Amazing Review..! You are Honest, Pleasant and excited at the same time, I have been looking at many Reviews on the Fujifilm X-S10, Other Reviewers mostly liked this little camera aswell, but I really liked the way you Present it, and iam going to go for it. My new little Family Camera is soon a Fujifilm x-s10 🙂. Once again Thank you for your great Review 👍 AJ Ottawa
I remember you liked the Z50 a lot. Would you choose the X-S10 over the Z50 (if IBIS doesn't matter)?
At the same price, is the X-S10 or the X -T3 the better buy ?
A really compelling hybrid camera, thanks
Very informative video so the question is Nokon Z50 or Fuji X-S10
For a beginner whose not invested in any system, would you look at the z50 or xs10. I’ll be doing way more photos than video.
Thank you for this review! Would the camera be weather resistant?
Good question! The camera is not weather-sealed. It could certainly take a few drops of rain or snow though. :)
You just made me wanna buy it !! What lens do u recommend for allrounder?
Between this camera and Nikon z50, which will be better for architecture and wild life stills ? I read somewhere that Fuji cameras have muted reds .
Good and informative review thank you. How do you feel about the EVF compared with the one on the XT3 and XT4?
Great camera, nice review, congratulations👏👏
Thank you, I REALLY enjoyed your review.
Great and detailed review; compliments! The small battery is my biggest concern but a powerbank is always helpfull. Curious what the X-T3 update will bring besides classic negative. Kind regards from Will in the Netherlands. 👊😎
It brought improved focusing, but no additional film simulations.
Next time you want to process raws of a new camera, just change the EXIF information to an older model with the same sensor. exiftool can do it as a batch operation.
Thank you for posting this video today Snapchick. I say this because it"s my birthday!!!
Thanks again for another great video. Did you guys purchase an SL2 as well? The Leica family is growing :)
HI Leigh what do you think of the FUJI 55 to 200mm lens with this camera
@@LeighAndRaymond Thank you for your reply, definitely something to think about..

How is it when pairing with manual lens? Compare to the traditional XT3/4 dial and dpad style.
great review! what was the adaptor you used for other lenses? does it allow for autofocus, or you have to manually focus? thanks !
For now, Viltrox lenses has fuji x versions with auto focus capability
@@monlegaspi thanks for your prompt reply. I have Nikon G lenses and unfortunately, based on Viltrox website, the adaptors they have for Fuji do not have autofocus :(
Love this video. What lens were you using on the Fuji at 14:05 in the video?
Awesome review. Made me decided to buy one
Did you try any manual focus/non-Fuji lens on the camera? IBIS work well with them?
