I have watched all of MHA and never felt a lag or drop in interest (aside from a personal adrenaline hangover after the Overhaul fight that dragged through Gentle and La Brava's whole s5 arc, but that's just me). Coincidentally however, I have not read the manga.
Yeah it’s remained pretty popular in the mainstream too with the most recent volume selling the most of the entire decade it ended on. It’s a huge franchise now.
@@illmat1c42 I love it, it's such a great world and there are less than a handful of characters in the entire show that i dislike, which is rare. I do fully intend to acquire and read the manga after the anime has covered all of it (at a very slow pace because manga is expensive as heck here and I am broke), but not until then. 🙂

For real! Just the half second clips from MHA Gigguk flashed on screen with background MHA music playing as he talked had me in tears, that show is SO GOOD, and I don't recall a single season of it I wasn't impressed.
Man, this is actually a really well written video. I just randomly clicked it, wanting to actually watch it later, but then I actually watched it all the way to the end. I'm currently not really in a mood to watch shows by myself. I'm currently more interested in reading or playing video games, but this is making me wanna put on some anime, again (I say, right as my Crunchyroll subscription ended).
My favorite line from this season of MHA came from one of the random characters "there are no side kicks anymore, if even one person wasn't here to do their job we would lose" and I think that was a perfect summary of the season
#1 made me cry, not when I watched it since I never have but just hearing you talk about it. I like to make stuff, I write and run dnd games and other ttrpg’s, Ive learned to play 3 different instruments and tried my hand at composing, I love to cook and create delicious food, I use the little coding knowledge I gathered to make Minecraft data packs and resource packs, I have even taken up digital art and managed to draw things Im actually proud of, and I have never understood, truly understood what someone was talking about down to the last breath until now. Will have to give it a watch
Dungeon Meshi is my #1. Dandadan was on track for #1, but then the season ended like any other episode, so it left a sour taste in my mouth. Still worth the #2 spot.
I agree, dungeon meshi is 1st place for 2024 for me. Also extremely agree with Dandadan, the way it ended the season left such a sour taste it ruined the season as a whole for me. There was some really nice parts, emotional, and fun stuff, but it just cuts off in the middle of the rising action. It’s not even a normal cliffhanger shows would do, it’s just a cut in the middle of the story progression. Sucks :(
I think what dandadan was going for was a cliffhanger to build hype for the coming season that also establishes jiji as an important character in the next season. At the very least dandadan alreasy has a trailer for the next season out, which is much faster than most other anime
@@PaulyPop I truly believe that the ending was just due to production issues. The rumors were that it was originally going to be a 2 cour season so I bet that either Science Saru needed more time to polish the second half, or the higher ups wanted to release it earlier and split the cour in two seasons.
Dang, that tribute to Akira Toriyama was really well done, I think you made a great call keeping it short and simple. Bonus points for how you used the scene of people giving their energy to the spirit bomb!
You are just so good at these video essays. The ability to eloquently condense macro and micro-level analysis across a dozen works of art in a way that is consistently delightful to hear is so incredibly hard. I appreciate your words and the tremendous talent and work behind them.

@@flameron1 I agree, but that is exactly what DanDaDan is. Most people aren't there for the plot, they are there for the animation, hype, and action just like you said. While DDD is more well rounded compared to Kaiju, Kaiju No 8 has one of the best casts of characters I've seen in a while. It is just fun to see them interact with eachother and it is also really nice having an adult mc. Not even a young adult, a full on 34 y/o. When it comes to SL, it is on track reach the same levels of hype as DanDaDan, especially with the Jeju Island arc coming up. Lastly, I'm incredibly surprised Gigguk didn't mention the finale of Hibike Euphonium. Considering he put GBC pretty high and on the list in general, it is genuinely surprising he didn't mention Hibike, especially with how well received it has been, as well as it being from KyoAni
I've read Look back in manga form and haven't seen the movie yet but the way Garnt explained it was so heartfelt and true to the core of what look back wants to convey. Can't wait to watch the movie and cry like a baby to it.

I don't usually comment one these videos but i realized something that I really felt like telling you (gigguk if you read this) every time you make one of these videos be it the seasonal or yearly i really feel like you capture the feelings of these shows and connect them to me personally, and i believe I'm not the only one. Sometimes they are shows i have watched or am watching and i really go back to their best moments, but as I was watching this video i realized that it wasn't just the shows i watched and that the feeling was just from the memory of the show, but also shows that i hadn't watched that really connected to me personally by the way you talk about them and made me feel deeply about them even though i hadn't watched them yet. I don't really feel like there is any other creator that i have watched (and i have watched a lot) is able to do it like this, at least as consistently. I have always watched these with the mindset of "lets get some good recommendations" but i hadn't really thought of why i felt like they were good. The way you talk about anime/manga is really wonderful and I'm going to continue looking forward to your videos because of it. I couldn't agree more. Sometimes his writing bring me just as much emotion as the show itself just because of how beautifully he can paint the picture of a story.
No only did I not skip them, I probably watched them independently of the show a dozen times. The visuals and song are packed with references and homages. Creepy Nuts' song is perfect for the vibe of the show, even if it was the same formula as their Bling Bang Bang Born for Mashle it still slaps
I've never heard of nor seen "Look Back," but everything you showed about it struck a chord with me. The loose paper sketches, the sketchbooks, the graphics tablet, the publications the embarrassment... I thought I put that all behind me, but now I'm all nostalgic looking through my old work. Definitely a movie I'll be "looking forward" to experiencing.
Gigguk, I don’t enjoy anime nearly as much as you do. In fact, I don’t enjoy 90% of modern anime nor most of your suggestions. BUT, these videos are must watches for me, you make it very entertaining and it’s so well put together. I walk away with a few shows on my watchlist, but smiling from the video itself. Thanks for the vid, here’s to another good year of anime (for you)!
You guys have to watch The Fable. It's easily in the top 3 best anime of 2024 and most people didn't watch it. It's a true seinen, soooo refreshing and unpredictable, about a guy who is a hitman but tries to live a normal life and shit happens.
DEFINITELY recommend code geass, today for no reason it just randomly hit my mind how flawless of an anime code geass is, with its soundtracks, characters, concepts, and story
That Re Zero scene with Wrath holding the child while ranting to the crowd was insane. Took me way too long before I realised why the crowd was just going along with it while cheering
That segment about Look Back and Somewhere Over the Rainbow was so beautifully written I had tears welling up and I haven't even watched Look Back, but I'm definitely going to now. Thank you Gigguk.
Dangers in my Heart was my favorite show this year. I enjoyed it so much that it became the first physical manga I've ever purchased. Dandadan episode 7 though... I haven't cried that much since the end of Plastic Memories. I will be watching Look Back as well.
Dangers in my Heart, After completing the second season, I immediately opened the website and bought the first 5 volumes and now saving for more. It was first time a show touched my heart, it deserves all the love and need even more. It's just PEAK.
Dan Da Dan is the best Anime in years and its not even close! I am this short of starting my own YT just to tell people that they dont know WHY it is so good 😅🎉
7:45 I really am kinda over this "omg mha was supposed to be the next big thing." Idk, maybe it was, but also its just a manga homage to everything Marvel and DC. Can it just. be. that. plz?
It was though no matter how you deny it considering it came in the time when both Bleach and Naruto ended and something needed to be filled in that gap.
That type of conversation will always happen. Like with JJK and MHA leaving shonen jump right now, everyone's hoping to find the next best thing and it leads to clickbaity stories
I watched the entire MHA and never once felt it lag or drop in quality! One reason I love the show is because of how it give each person in class 1-A a character and makes each one someone you can cheer for. It does such a good job giving each and every character depth, some more shallow but deep enough to know still and others have a great deal of depth.
20:35 right what you said right here, reminds me a my favorite manga that’s getting an anime this year, called the fragrant flower blooms with dignity. Highly recommended. No thing, no love triangles, no inappropriate fan service, just people treating each other as human beings.
What an amazing year for anime I start Delicius in dungeon without any expectation, then it slap my face so hard with an amazing world building and interesting character. The dangers in my heart for the first time since i watch anime that i honestly thing "this is love" I appreciate so much that you didn't put Look back in the thumbnail, this film is THE film that deserve the most to be in this video, for the way and for the passion in which it tells this beautiful story P.s. I want to see all of Re:zero 3° season.....NOW
DDDDDDD Desctruction was genuinely funny, animation is great and themes are fine. Really shows that if humans know that end is inevitable, they just continue to do their thing, but now depressed.
I was just chilling watching this video and then I saw look back show up. All the memories flooded back and the hurt came once again. Gigguk, I hate you for reminding me of the sting, but I love you for giving this masterpiece its well deserved spot.
Look Back made me cry especially in the scene where the little girl gave up drawing 4koma for their school paper because there was another artist that she felt was better than her. It really gutted me because I forgot when I stopped drawing for myself, but I realized that one day I did just stopped. And I cry inside every time I see my previous works. They are imperfect, but I remembered how fun it was when I was making those. Look back really felt like it was talking to me as someone who had stopped drawing for a long time. And I do agree that it should take its place as top 1 anime of 2024
I feel a little bummed that Gigguk either hasn't seen Tower of God Season 2 or more likely he has seen it but didn't like it as much as Season 1. I really loved the latest season (and yes, my opinion of the show may be heavily skewed because I read the manhwa). I hope they continue to animate the show, as it has so much to offer with great characters, action, and story. I enjoy the commentary Gigguk gave for a lot of these shows, and I can't wait to see more of his videos. I have seen many shows because of his videos, and they have brought me great joy. Keep up the great work, Grant!
Orb or Chi, was my surprise of this year. It was the Vinland Saga of this year, something different, and had amazing line of VAs too. It sits in the same place as Metaphor did this year in games. Great story and characters so far and I hope it continues. But of course it was hard to trump Frieren, I rewatched it just to make sure and you get another sense of perspective when you watch it again. Japan has also fully embraced Frieren, and its popularity was in insane, so many places had sold out of it goods even in remote areas.
I watch a lot of youtube. Gigguk is the only channel and Garnt is the only person that consistently makes me feel emotional with their videos. I can count on my hands the number of videos i did not cry to. I look forward to every single upload and this time again, i sat in front of my monitor just kind of crying while thinking about your words man. Thank you for the great content and i loved the editing. You got great editors. Much love
Gigguk, you NEED to make a video talking about manwha, primarily TBATE, ORV, and the peak that is the greatest estate developer. I NEED PEOPLE TO KNOW THAT LLOYD = WATER.
imo it's mostly just copium when anime fans say that anime has "finally become mainstream". when in reality it's nowhere near that level and you still get judged for it
Garnt thank you for doing this every year. Been a fan for 10 years now and i love the quality of your videos. This is the reason i find new anime to watch every year.
22:12 LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOOO I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR GIGGUK TO ACTUALLY PAY ATTENTION TO THIS ANIME AND MAKE A VIDEO ABOUT IT AND ITS HAPPENING RIGHT AT THIS TIMESTAMP!!!
Came to comments shocked that Dandadan was 2. I almost was like what could have been better? Then you dropped number 1. You are right. It wasn’t that I forgot. It was just painful to remember. I read Look Back once and I probably will only watch it once. It was heavy. It made me cry. It was a masterpiece. I can’t watch it or read it again though. Fujimoto is the future. Must protect him.
Absolutely agree!! I was sobbing like a baby in a pretty quiet theater and felt quite embarrassed. But that’s still probably the best thing I’ve seen the entire year
It’s so refreshing to see a big TH-camr talk about how great My Hero Academia is. It being a superhero soap opera is the best kind of description, really. I at first loved it for its hype moments and intriguing cast (and it still maintained those things) but I truly loved it for its narrative and character struggles.
Every time I try to continue reading Dandadan or watch the anime, I can’t escape that these are KIDS lmao it’s extremely weird. The older I get the more I can’t just ignore SA jokes
This was the year I really got into anime. By far my favorite one I watched was Re:zero. I was aware of the normal isekai tropes going into it and I was prepared to just deal with them but I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was not a typical isekai and was in fact PEAK.
I've seen it and the most recent part of Bleach is pretty mid. Don't know the mangaka keeps giving cool looking black characters the most goofy looking transformations. WTF did that sniper turn into?

As soon as I heard the music for no. 1, I instantly started tearing up. Hell yeah
That segment about Look Back and Somewhere Over the Rainbow was so beautifully written I had tears welling up and I haven't even watched Look Back, but I'm definitely going to now. Thank you Gigguk.
25:32 what emotion stirring song was playing in the background to make that segment make you want to reflect about life?
^^^?
32:29 i just heard the first note and started to cry
Same. I was like, what the fuck is happening
Anyone know the name of the song?
Same bro
@Yaj_22 its called "light song" a look back ost
@@_oracle7Thank you bro
MHA is the best Shounen of this generation and I will NOT apologize for that.
Each video makes me remember why this guy deserves every bit of success he’s ever gotten out of them
Everytime I watch these yearly recap videos gigguk make it gives me a huge urge to watch more anime
Can it just. be. that. plz?
No. It was trash and wasted everyone time
It was the next big thing. It's a huge IP
Its just STILL going, so people are getting fatigued by it in the context of lists and awards.
Absolutely phenomenal video!
33:40 Oh, you mean a Geistesblitz! Geistesblitz translates to Mind Flash and is a german word that means "a suddenly appearing idea".
Man, whenever it's a cool word for some state of mind it's always German :D
Dangers in my heart is so good
we are so blessed by having a person like Gigguk in this entertainment industry.
His script writing is top of the notch
Gigguk Recognised Peak Romance - Dangers in my Heart , We won
I watched the entire MHA and never once felt it lag or drop in quality! One reason I love the show is because of how it give each person in class 1-A a character and makes each one someone you can cheer for. It does such a good job giving each and every character depth, some more shallow but deep enough to know still and others have a great deal of depth.
2024 caught me off guard. I wasn't expecting so much PEAK. 😭💀
2024 was the year of the elves
I am surprised Kaijuu 8gou isn't in the list and not even mentioned by anyone in the comments. I liked it a lot.
Its overrated that's why
@@pd5873Coming from the dude with the kakashi pfp, I think we’ll just ignore your crap take
@@adellongino9413it is overrated
@@adellongino9413 yeah now cry abt it
i mean it has basic story and decent animation, thats it.
20:35 right what you said right here, reminds me a my favorite manga that’s getting an anime this year, called the fragrant flower blooms with dignity. Highly recommended. No thing, no love triangles, no inappropriate fan service, just people treating each other as human beings.
I am glad someone remembered Bravern
What an amazing year for anime
I start Delicius in dungeon without any expectation, then it slap my face so hard with an amazing world building and interesting character.
The dangers in my heart for the first time since i watch anime that i honestly thing "this is love"
I appreciate so much that you didn't put Look back in the thumbnail, this film is THE film that deserve the most to be in this video, for the way and for the passion in which it tells this beautiful story
P.s. I want to see all of Re:zero 3° season.....NOW
I really hate and love how thoses videos always hit me emotionaly. They're great and I hope to see it again next year
I'm glad to see some Bokuyaba appreciation! It felt like no one was talking about season 2 this year
40 seconds have been cut off in just 3 hours.
Wow TH-cam, thank you
Bleach really did just drop the best 14 episode stretch in its history and got completely ignored
Gigguk is insanely biased on the show. ☠️ He hates it I think
Tybw season 2 wasnt this year
@@jackpitman15 season 3 was this year infact it finished just recently
I don't think it's the best 14 episodes. I was getting bored at some point. But it's okay. Everyone has different tastes.
bleach is just turn based fight on who has more trick in their sleeves.
Best of anime 2024 finally dropped... See you all in 6 months
No bleach citation... THAT'S absurd.
And I do agree that it should take its place as top 1 anime of 2024
Idk who edits Garnt's videos but they are godlike 🔥
You can find the links in the description. And I'm pretty sure BakaShift was on Trash Taste at some point. ❤
DAMN IT NOW IM CRYING FOR THE 3RD TIME. Look back is such an amazing movie I'm glad i wasn't the only one to feel this way about it
Been watching anime for close to 40 years, Gigguk my dude!
dam
1:55 bruh it's Indian TV serial aura 😂😂
I watch a lot of youtube. Gigguk is the only channel and Garnt is the only person that consistently makes me feel emotional with their videos. I can count on my hands the number of videos i did not cry to. I look forward to every single upload and this time again, i sat in front of my monitor just kind of crying while thinking about your words man. Thank you for the great content and i loved the editing. You got great editors. Much love
Gigguk, you NEED to make a video talking about manwha, primarily TBATE, ORV, and the peak that is the greatest estate developer. I NEED PEOPLE TO KNOW THAT LLOYD = WATER.
imo it's mostly just copium when anime fans say that anime has "finally become mainstream". when in reality it's nowhere near that level and you still get judged for it
nah, probably just your area. It's mainstream in my area, no one looks at others weird for saying "I watched anime and I like it"
Garnt thank you for doing this every year. Been a fan for 10 years now and i love the quality of your videos. This is the reason i find new anime to watch every year.
Dude. I cried when you explained how emotional Look Back was. Thanks for this.
as always an awesome video from gigguk
22:12 LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOOO I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR GIGGUK TO ACTUALLY PAY ATTENTION TO THIS ANIME AND MAKE A VIDEO ABOUT IT AND ITS HAPPENING RIGHT AT THIS TIMESTAMP!!!
for reaaals👏🏼👏🏼
Okay but like wheres Hibike Euphonium at man
Came to comments shocked that Dandadan was 2.
But that’s still probably the best thing I’ve seen the entire year
17:48 lol that clap 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
You have the ability to make me reflect on my entire life choices by uploading a single video
What about Bleach?
its nr 0 trust
It’s so refreshing to see a big TH-camr talk about how great My Hero Academia is. It being a superhero soap opera is the best kind of description, really. I at first loved it for its hype moments and intriguing cast (and it still maintained those things) but I truly loved it for its narrative and character struggles.
GBC getting 5 I'm very happy and by the looks of it all these Anime looked fantastic I need to watch the rest of them.
I became an anime fan this year too. Summer this year to be exact.
Every time I try to continue reading Dandadan or watch the anime, I can’t escape that these are KIDS lmao it’s extremely weird. The older I get the more I can’t just ignore SA jokes
FINALLY Gigguk watched Dungeon Meshi. I'll take the third spot, its my fave manga of all time and I love the adaptation.
This was the year I really got into anime. By far my favorite one I watched was Re:zero. I was aware of the normal isekai tropes going into it and I was prepared to just deal with them but I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was not a typical isekai and was in fact PEAK.
Ain’t no way Blud just forgot that bleach exists
@ ??????? MHA and Re:Zero are on the list
what is that
@@hyde_stopStealingMyUsername 😭
I've seen it and the most recent part of Bleach is pretty mid. Don't know the mangaka keeps giving cool looking black characters the most goofy looking transformations. WTF did that sniper turn into?
@@siddharthpahariya8526 sorry, I’m a bleach hater 😭
24:19 That piano🔥
The fact that you consistently remember to do this yearly, I honestly appreciate it too much!
31:48 Holy shit, I haven't seen that meme of The Rock in at least a decade. Thank you for reminding me it exists
Jesus, the Look Back portion made me feel a sense of longing. How did a Gigguk video make me feel emotional?! We aren't ready for 2025.
7:18 i love how he says "no diddy"
Finally Grant uploaded when its Lunch in Asia
THANK GOD GIGGUK IS HERE ive been cured of my drought
