I love that you visit assisted living, retirement homes. These older folks must feel so good getting validation about their treasures. So many people discount older things these days.
So lovely to watch...thank you George and thank you to the folks whose pieces were appraised. Particularly loved the folk art! And what a gorgeous lady! 🤗❤
Thank you, George. This video made me cry remembering my mom's final years in a retirement community. The items people choose to keep as living space gets smaller is so interesting & the light in their faces telling you their stories is precious. I wish the microphone wasn't blocking everyone's face.
I think it is such a wonderful thing you are doing at these appraisals. Our seniors should be respected, admired and appreciated. They are full of wisdom. What better way to show our appreciation for them, then to let them talk about some of their favorite keepsakes. Thank you sir!!
Watching the faces of some of the people you talked to, it’s almost an adult show-and-tell,too, isn’t it? How delightful and fun for them. I love your rapport with the ladies. Must come from being an affectionate son to your own mom. And the gentlemen with the toys made me laugh, they’re still stoked about those toys all these decades later!
I gave a tea party for my daughter and her friends on her 8th birthday. I got out my best China and the tea cups. I will never forget those little girls drinking their fruit punch out of the tea cups with their little pinkies up!
That reminds me of the tea parties me and my friends had when we were teenager and these aromatized teas where popular. That was why I got a golden chinese china tea set for my birtday in the 80s. I still have it.
Our 3rd grade teacher taught us table etiquette & then invited our class to her home for a formal Christmas dinner. She expected an appropriate hostess gift & we would receive table favors as well as gifts from her & her husband. She also expected a thank you note. We would be graded, but accidents were bound to happen , but if we were being pleasant dinner company & respectful of each other & their home - then it would be overlooked. She was the final judge. It is a wonderful memory. Mrs. Harris was the best!
George, as I've said many times, you are one of the most kind people doing this work...and this video demonstrates it so well. You show so much respect for this group of elders and their stories that it brought a tear to my eye many times. Worth every second of viewing. Thank you!!!! (Plus I always learn so much, you're so knowledgeable & brilliant!!) 💖
George, I love the intelligence and humor of this group! Thank you for a warm, wonderful vicarious experience. You are an exceptional person, a sweet man.
Thanks George for including the stories of the owner of the items ... Clearly many of your guests wanted to share their stories more than the item they brought and that was so touching ...plus I heard many things that I too remember and that was pretty neato👍😊
It’s heartwarming to hear the people talk about the memories associated with the pieces, as well as your kind and patient interaction with them. Really enjoyed this video.
Hola 👋 from Las Vegas Nevada…and you are amazing totally mind blowing knowledge! As always so respectful and soft spoken with those lovely folks. The lady with the American folk art figures had such a sweet child like reaction when you played with the acrobatic figure. Priceless!
Oh George! That was most enjoyable!! Always a treat to be a mental traveler with u and your informative history on the treasures u come across! Rock On!!💞🧜♀️💞
George!!!! I Loved This !!! I could watch these for days !! I cried the whole video. ! Possibly get a floor stand for the mic? It blocked everyone's face. The man with the Red cast truck was soooo enjoyable. He enjoyed telling the audience his story !! What a joy !!!❤️❤️❤️
It was such a joy to hear about these interesting folks' lives and their storied family treasures. Bless you for doing this and kudos to the center for a great idea!
Well if you've ever spent any time in a residential retirement home, this was probably one of the more exciting programs offered.. I'm sure it made all those seniors day... Sure the camera work might have been wonky, I'm not sure if that was by Design or accident... I look at it as a valuable public service to our older folks..
I think vintage things should be used even by little kids with supervision. When my first child was at her house she was fascinated by my mom’s knickknacks. Mom would put my 2-3 year old on the couch and then let my girl hold and play with it. When my Beth got bored with it, my mom put it back and Beth left it alone. Your advice was good. Now I have greatgrands and currently the favorite drinking cups are worth about $15. The rule in my house is if it breaks, it is broken and I hope no one is hurt as I can always get another(I probably can’t and I know this, but they don’t need to know.)
Like others, this was so fun more for the stories told than for the pieces themselves. I have long regretted not spending more time with grandparents asking questions, listening to stories and recording them telling them. Don’t miss those opportunities!😊
It's somehow something I was so aware of so Young, Granddad must of got 100 questions a day. How Big is Malta? what's a Maltese word? I suppose He was It, out of four grandparents, He was the only One there. I miss Him every day. Never let time go by without saying I love You.
My Mom grew up in Hammmondsport NY where Glenn Curtiss was born. He is known for aviation but after World War I a Toronto factory was converted to make gramaphones to provide work. I happened to come across a Curtiss Aerenola which I knew nothing about. When I contacted the Curtiss Museum, they were thrilled when Mom and I offered to donate it. They have displayed it beautifully near the main entrance. 🇨🇦
Your Chanel was suggested by the Vegas Thrifter Lady and I am loving it. I’ve learned so much today. Been watching for hours and I just want to say this nursing home appraisal is soooo cool. To actually talk to the grandchildren of some of these original owners is amazing. This rivals antiques Road Show love love love it!
I have a small Shirley Temple drinking cup with handle that looks like it matched the pitcher your showed. Belonged to my mother-in-law who was also named Shirley. I loved the way you showed such appreciation for these folks and their memories.
I live in an apartment complex for older adults. We have a giveaway table. So many treasures show up on that table! I collect McCoy pottery. I have picked up many McCoy pieces ....Free!
This has been the most interesting video I have seen! The idea of the Senior residence as the setting was a great Idea. I feel it was more interesting than our Antiques Roadshow because the things were what we all have in our cabinets from our family. Thank you for being so tactful and yet honest.
My father's parents got a brand new set of formal china for their anniversary in 1936, as a gift. Grandma never used it, couldn't stand it. Or Grandpa couldn't. It ended up in a box in the attic, and then in a box in her sister's attic, and then in a box at my sister's house. From there it went to charity. Collectors can't stand the pattern either!(LOL)
This video made me feel all warm and fuzzy. You are an encyclopedia of history. You listen and teach with such kindness. Wish more people spent time with our elders. They are so full of interesting experiences and stories. Wish this content translated to tic tok and got to the younger generations.
I enjoyed watching this so much, Your explanation of not wanting the fine China, just seeing the people with You briefly was really lovely. Cool Lil unicycle Guy, but the mochisons were definitely my favorite item. I can't explain how much I appreciated You explaining that about the China, we people need those reminders's in life to be mindful of creating good memories for the One's that will look back on those days. Children are smart, and they don't forget, those sentimental thing's are always attached to memories. Let's aim for better always.
The word "Eskimo" is not used any longer in Canada. It's considered improper. The word "Inuit" has been used for quite a while. Love the show! Canada 🍁p.s. The sound was wonderfully clear!
@Deborah Janet Thank you for your clarification 😊 As a Canadian Indigenous Metis person(I tend to use Native in casual conversation), "Eskimo" was a colonial racist term which is no longer used, as was also the case with "Indian". However, when referring to say tourist pieces labeled "Eskimo," from that time, I personally don't find mind as it was the reality of the times, and we've learned from it.

I just love listening to their stories! What a great thing to be able to do for these folks! I’m sure they all really enjoyed the opportunity to show an item that means so much to them and get to share how they got it (:
I am impressed by how you can walk in cold and know so much about any object 🤩 I went to an antique roadshow event no the appraiser sat and googled and really wasn’t helpful. Really interesting to watch, thanks for sharing ❤️
