Good to see a clean build of an old classic, giving it enough love to show off its lines and surface detail, with the bonus of a nicely painted pilot-too bad we don't see more of those!
Thanks for showing the problems with the old decals, I have quite a few problems myself - old decals and being clumsy. I always scan any decals before use and prepare to print them again on waterslide decal paper if necessary, which is quite often unfortunately. Nice work on an old kit, I also have a huge "stash of shame", I really need to get stuck in.
New TWA and Why files videos in the same day, I hope that the rest of my day is this good! Nice work saving that decal there, I've had similar situations like that, its always amazing to me just how fussy a decal can be and then within the same batch be completely stubborn. I really enjoyed this video, I've built this kit twice, once when I was younger, my Dad gave it to me to build so I'd leave him alone, and I built a second one as a Tuskegee P-40. I enjoyed it both times, and I know what you mean about the frail landing gear. Even though there are much better options out there on the market, I still really love building these vintage Airfix kits, and some I enjoy even more than their newer toolings.
@@rebelsatcloudnine some of them are better than others for sure. Overall I liked this kit, but Im working on a boomerang right now and that thing is basically a sculpting project.
@@TheWaggishAmerican I built one as a young teen and I did a terrible job on it, and then a few years ago I found a bagged one at an antiques store. I was so excited to rebuild that kit, but I had to get my brother to resculpt for me the nose section and he did an amazing job with some Green Stuff 2 part epoxy. I also took care with the canons, they are fragile, but I LOVE the Boomerang, I'm so glad to have one back in my collection, and I can't wait to see yours :D
@rebelsatcloudnine the nose was rough but the wing roots have been a nightmare to get even semipresentable. Its a very unique plane, Id like to do a (newer, better) one in 48th but I dont know that the special.hobby offering will build any easier than the ancient airfix lol
@@TheWaggishAmerican Oh yeah, I forgot about the wing roots, that was a lot of sanding. I did get the decals for mine from Special Hobby, the ones that I had turned and odd shade of brown, almost like mildew, kind of gross, but Special Hobby were nice enough to sell me a set.
I was just wondering if you knew about quinta studios they do 3d printed cockpit parts for individual kit i just wanted to recommend it if you didn't know about it
Oh the original unit codes. I dont know anything about how the british assigned these but im going to assume it wasn't intentional, especially since the other side would have been Y-GA

Excellent build of a classic Airfix Vintage model. I've got a few models on the shelf of doom I must get them done. Keep up the great work son 👍
