    I have had 1 ant 🐜 in the relay contacts that kept it from working. Good of you to repair these older units. These POS contractors in Houston won't fix anything they just give you a 13 thousand dollar estimate for a new system & leave you in the heat. Had an 80yr old retired military gal last week needed a condenser fan motor they would not fix it, Carrier from 2009 looked like new even the air handler/coil, they still would not fix it. New motor/capacitor & a coil clean works like new. Thanks for repairing & your honesty.

    Hi Steve. I was surprised to hear you say that Square D breakers were bad. As a previous electrical contractor for almost 30 years they were always considered the best in the industry although not sure if your working with the homeline or QO versions. QO is better by far.

    • @WeatherNut27
      @WeatherNut27 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I believe he meant the disconnect itself and not the specific brand but I have seen Square D breakers outside go bad too. Probably something to do with the moisture that breakers aren't the best to use for a disconnect

I'd rather switch out the worn-out $20 part with a new one and not worry about it vs. spending more expensive tech time to perform a half-assed repair. Half-assed repairs are good if you are DIYing, professionals shouldn't do that kind of thing.

Plumb the refrigerant lineset with proper directional bends, be meticulous with the disconnect and whip, then remember that the low voltage actuation circuit is where many splits fail early-on, then install the condensing unit onto a nice concrete pad - surrounded with red or grey granite landscaping chips, then spray the granite down with weed and grass killer, and they'll last almost forever.

    wow steven took a good 10 mins before proper diagnosis. If you ain't test''n' you are guess'n'. Do you often change parts before asking customer permission and a good financial arrangement.

      He tested the cap; it was weak, so replaced. He tested the contactor; it stayed open, so replaced. Yeah, it might have run with just the contactor replaced; for a while, and/or with additional wear on the motor. I watch Steve because he does it right.

      @@petersmart1999 It's all garbage when the installers put it in like a bunch of retards. Otherwise, installed properly, most of the big names are good equipment. I think a lot of HVAC contractors confuse who is good when it affects their business or ability to qualify and work with certain makes. Some are strict and some are not. That could be the issue...most of every HVAC issues are due to technicians and installers who shouldn't be doing this kind of work.
