thank you. I’m sitting here in a giant hospital in JAPAN, 69 years old, recovering from triple bypass open-heart surgery and thinking about how I would really like to get home and get back to practicing again after seeing this. I’ll dedicate a video of me playing Albeniz to you, Lucas. Thanks for all of the inspiration over the years. UPDATE: thank you so much to everyone who wrote such encouraging comments. This week I got back to work on my recording projects after I discovered the Zoom R4 digital recorder/interface. I will be launching my new TH-cam channel in the coming weeks.
Lucas is the only guitarist I’ve ever seen who can play Take Five on guitar whilst faithfully retaining the rhythmic, harmonic and melodic flow of the wonderful Dave Brubeck Quartet recording. And I’ve seen ‘em all! Sheer brilliance.
Dude is from an other world. He improvised while playing the bass line which is in 5/4 time signature without any mistakes. And then he played the drum solo 'on the guitar' while still playing the bass line!
What effs with my head in this kind of arrangement is when they have a rhythm pattern going, then start playing a melody OVER the rhythm… without altering the rhythm. Like at 0:06 in this piece… holy shit… 🤯😅
The Gene Wright bass underneath, Brubeck accompaniment, Desmond solo (and articulation, wow) and keeping it going with the Morello drum solo nod in the middle. Clever, creative, well done.
Lucas, I'm so happy to be seeing videos from you again. Your arrangements are always shockingly brilliant. Thank you for sharing your talent and hard work. 🙂
...long breath......wow !.......this goes in my favorites list. I never would have thought 1 man could do that with 6 strings. Well done, Sir Lucas....well done.
TH-cam have been presenting me with several solo versions of this tune lately, I like it, so I listen. This is by far the best, as I pretty much knew it would be before it even started. Another great one Lucas. Thanks.
@@alexdelascasas thanks. I never looked it up, but Lucas wrote in the very first frames on the video. As I myself used to write music, I believe that credits to the composer is very important. Once again thanks for the correction.
So I’ve been playing 30 years and I saw a song that he performed, and well it’s been 6 months of playing extremely slow just to learn the song and sound like him. Well their is hope at the end of the tunnel, but after trying to do his compositions on the guitar is very humbling. Like I said 6 months in of 45 minutes a day playing it slow and now bringing the speed. I think to get to performance in public scenario will be another 6 months. And ya right now I’m implementing the double tab with his palm into the playing and mastering that one single element alone I feel is an accomplishment that is worthy of many many hrs of dedication. If only when you stood at the ocean and picked up a shell and it was playing this song softly it would be pretty great. It’s funny when someone says so and so is so good on the guitar and well most pros are pretty talented beyond what they perform, no one is on this guys level. No one, maybe Kent nishimira, Tommy Emmanuel, great guitarists don’t get me wrong, this guy deserves a Nobel prize for the guitar. It’s like andres segovia such classical roots with all the new school stuff added on. I think segovias spirit is finally rested at ease knowing someone is saving the guitar. And may the force be with you if you try to play his stuff…..But first 20 years of classical training then you can start to learn like seriously.
Your talent combined with the dedication and discipline to your art is undeniable. It's an absolute joy and pleasure to watch your hard work on display.
Many comments I agreed with and liked, but it's you, with whom I agree the most. Yes. The combination of talent and dedication on display here is what takes the breath away.
It seems to me that each of your fingers has its own little (actually, not so little) brain. I don’t know how else this masterful arrangement could be otherwise executed. Absolutely incredible!!!!
I've been trying to play this 5/4 piece for 40 x 365.25 and that without high hat, snare drum and bass. That was so enjoyable Lucas, you would have to be me to know how much. And no, I don't know what that means either. Enough to say, I'm about to listen to it again. Thank you 👍 😁 👋
In a world of vain show and extravagant waste, what a rare thrill to listen to such a master player dedicated to excellence with an exquisite sense of humor and simplicity: just a few strings, an iconic jazz track and a hat! Thank you for offering us all that island of taste and pure music!
This may be one of the best solo guitar arrangements and performances i’ve ever seen. And we live in crazy times . Outstanding. Technically phenomenal but keeping the beauty of the song whilst deploying such high level difficulty is what makes this SO good. Being technical enough to make guitar players gush is one thing, doing it whilst also creating something you want to listen to on a Spotify playlist because it sounds great is just next level.
He's one the best in the world, in my opinion. (Not that that counts for anything.) I wish Chet was still alive to grant Lucas a 'Certified Guitar Player' certificate.
Lucas, non ho mai visto un concentrato di intelligenza, ironia, leggerezza e virtuosismo di tale livello. Tu sei davvero fantastico: un musicista che non mi stanco mai di ascoltare
You took my favorite jazz standard, my favorite classical instrument and combined it so cool!!!! Bravo!!! I wish I could wear your hat, at least for 7 minutes;)
You are one of the best TH-camr musicians out there, man. Love your videos. Always keep them coming! I’d love to hear an album from you someday. Your playing and arrangements are top notch.
I first heard Take Five in, of all places, my high school band. Our 15yo principal sax played the sexiest, smokiest solo I’d ever heard. I was hooked and enchanted. This version is, of course, fabulous. I’ve followed his other posts. Amazing guy. ❤
The only way I know to describe what you do is; unlike someone playing a song very well, you seem to inhabit the song. The music flows from you personally. It looks so fluid and natural even though you've obviously spent years and years achieving it. It's a treat to watch the art happen. Thanks
That’s one of my most favourite tunes. Thank you so much for sharing, I thoroughly enjoyed it and appreciate all your work. Excellent, Excellent, Excellent!!!
Terrific! I still love Take 5 more than any other jazz tune I’ve ever heard. Paul Desmond was my favorite saxophonist and one of the disappointments of my life is that I had Joe Morello’s promise to introduce me to Desmond, but it never happened. Sadly Desmond died of lung cancer before the opportunity came to pass. Thanks for this. Well done!!
Hey Guys! Hope you enjoy! Tab: www.patreon.com/posts/take-five-solo-97646229?Link&
It’s take more than the tabs to be able to play this 😅
Good to see you posting again maestro!
Thank you! Is the tab also available without patreon?
Yea right like tab is what we need to play it..
Will try to play it without tabs at first
Amazing arrangement ! Is that a double top guitar you have ?

I too was in a hospital bed watching this for the first time! In recovery now. Hope you are recovering too... This is phenomenal isn't it? ❤
Hope you get better soon and enjoy getting back to playing. X
I hope you have a quick recovery, and I’m very happy I could inspire you!! All the best ❤

Maybe I am wrong, but I thought the original was by Paul Desmond.
@@hl4468 Paul Desmond was part of the quartet, he is the composer of this one though.
psssss.... what are you saying... Naudo Rodriguez is the daddy of fingerstyle.... check him out... th-cam.com/video/FyRMKrQxCP0/w-d-xo.html

Its not improvised i think. But off course never the less absolutely insane stuff
You're right. It's an excellent reproduction of Paul Desmond's original solo.
So wonderful what peoples can do. Take that a.i.
He's not improvising, but that does not mean that we he does...is incredibly insane!
he plays the trumpet solo not an improv, this is nonetheless incredibely impressive
Insane level of articulation, clarity of all voices, musicality. Hats off!
Hats off? Never.
As a guitarist myself, this performance tied my brain in knots! Incredible arrangement AND performance! Thank you!

When technique and musicality do not come at the expense of soul. This is the most beautiful performance I have heard of this piece.
I agree 👍
With all that business, he played it slightly faster tempo as well.
Man im so glad to be alive xxtankfly
I agree too. It's awesome.
fuuucking hell Lucas, that's one of the hardest things you've uploaded. respect for arranging this mess and then playing it perfectly.
Lucas, I'm so happy to be seeing videos from you again. Your arrangements are always shockingly brilliant. Thank you for sharing your talent and hard work. 🙂
Thank you for listening!
From Brubeck to Metallica, your playing is absolutely mesmerizing. Thank you for posting.
This is so smooth. Finally someone did this classic justice.
Yes indeed, a truly worthy interpretation.
What a wonderful way to start my day. Coffee, Jackie the cat on my lap and a fantastic rendition of Take Five.
The Desmond solo, and then the Morello solo!? Such a fun listen. Thanks, Lucas!
This is when you really love a musical piece! I can tell right away .
This is INSANE, the original solo almost note for note AND the drum solo. FANTASTIC playing.
That's overwhelming! Sounds like whole Brubeck's quartet playing right in front of you. Great!
@T_ELEG_RAM_official_Lucas_brar bring it on
Harmony ✔️
Melody ✔️
Bass ✔️
Joe Morello drums solo at guitar ✔️ 👀
Thanks for this great piece!
This is another level of genius. I can't imagine the tons of work and talent needed to achieve this masterpiece so easily, huge thanks !
Damn. The percussion! I'm in awe!

good heavens - you transcribed piano, sax, and drum solos - and then simultaneously played on guitar! praise.
Insane omg i love this version PLEASE MAKE A TUTORIAL THANK YOU THANK UUU
I'm impressed by your playing style more than by anyone else.
Much love from Kyiv.

Brilliantly arranged and played! I love Brubeck's 5/4 Take Five.
It's actually paul desmond (brubeck's sax player) that wrote it
