Ryu in case you didnt know, l'm pretty sure if you press the + button on the overworld, you can go to a menu that shows you for every level per world if you've gotten all the puzzle pieces/kong/time attacks. lt's a useful way to see if you've missed any levels at all in one quick sweep :]

Don't forget to go back and time attack the boss of World 2! EDIT: Dunno how you didn't notice, Ryu, but the tornados push you in the direction that their midsection is aimed. If it's aimed towards you and you try to go through it, it pushes you back. If it is aimed away from you and you try to go through it, it pushes you in the direction you're moving.
noticed this as well, but when your in the game, it is hard to notice things like that sometimes
@@nocokepepsi1051 Only if you don't pay attention to the details as you go (which honestly is totally Ryu, lol). I mean, I figured it out by just watching Ryu jumping at the tornadoes a couple of times.

I know that it is a small amount of vids per week, but I honestly think that is the most healthy for RYU. I have seen so many of my favorite youtubers who have burnt out trying to post one vid a day.

"Cranky optimization" is such a ryu term

I think he finally saw Cranky put to good use. I know speedrunners of the game used Cranky for most levels, don't know if that's changed since I last saw them; but I guess Ryu will be considering him more now that he saw how he can pogo his way to victory.
Level 3-1 is one of my favorites. Back on WiiU, I used to be ranked #25 on that level's leaderboard. Fond memories.

Whenever I used to play this game, I never noticed the platforms on the side of the arena with the owl boss, so I would grab one baby owl, bounce off another, and then hit him. I feel so dumb now.

This is easily my favorite series rn!
Poor Diddy, he used to be the second lead but now he's just the worst companion. The only time where he's useful in this game is in the water stages but everyone hates the water stages anyway.
The last time I enjoyed using Diddy was only in the very first DKC game. Dixie became the #1 choice once DKC 2 came out and has been forgotten for the past 20 years.
I still want this series to continue!
Ryu I recommend you check out the world record for frantic fields, it's insane. You can get huge speed boosts off the tornadoes and fly through the level.
@Ryu - quick tip: Don't forget the special move that charges up when you have a buddy. Dixies' special is best (naturally). Hit L+R and all enemies on screen turn to gold hearts. It becomes VERY useful as the game gets hard AF. Thing on the top left will tell you when it's ready (maybe you figure this out during the video, I'm watching right now).
This series has caused me to go back and play the game from the start again (have 105% on my other save)... Man this game is so great. I enjoy watching Ryu play because there is soooooo much awesome stuff going on in the backgrounds (and often foregrounds) of the levels that you can't really pay attention to when you're playing because you need to focus so much. It has given me an even greater appreciation for the level design

I really like watching the Donkey Kong series for a change. When I was a kid, we only had an old NES with Mario 1 + Tetris & a Sega with only Sonic. But one of my nephews that lived down the street, had a SNES with the first Donkey Kong Country and I loved going over there to play it.
So even though I never played this one, it's still giving me some secondhand nostalgia, seeing this.

From Germany to Africa... I love that the worlds in this game are inspired by specific cultures instead of generic levels like "Factory" and "Cave"

The "tornadoes" blow you in the direction they're bent. If you notice, the top half is a curved shape that switches around and whichever way it curves is where it throws you.
It does seem like Twisters from Mario Maker 2 invaded, though.
I am once again begging for this series to be longer, or upload more frequently!

You figured out alot about the game this episode, including crankie's being hardcore and the only flaw really of the game: the recycled minigames. That should have been a Rambi challenge there, especially in the switch re-release.

I absolutely love this series. Woke up and immediately clicked on your channel lol. And the title of the video kinda foreshadows the levels. The boss is similar to the crow boss in DK2 and lightning from DK3. So many memories

Played this game back in the day and loved it, now I get to enjoy it again with the magic of Ryukahr. Can't wait to hear what he thinks of the water level remixes.

27:20 to 28:01 was the saddest section of gameplay I've ever seen from Ryu! That damn banana... I felt so embarrassed then anger followed by rage amd yelling at the screen.

Only now I realize that the owl boss fight has MANY similarities to the ghost crow boss fight from DKC2 (SNES)! Different levels, you have to throw eggs to the flying enemy that charges towards you, wind, etc.

World 3 of this game has some of the best game music ever done. Grassland Grove is my favourite. Some of David Wise's finest.

The optimized time attack for that tornado level is pretty insane if I recall correctly.
You can watch replays of people's runs in the in-game leaderboards, so I recommend you take a look at one of the top times there.
