Hey man! Great video! I have a question regarding transcoding, I know this is basic but when you say transcoding do you mean creating proxies for it? Or actually using a program to convert them into ProRes? And does that mean you will have 2 copies of the same file (not including the backups ;)
I meant proxies. But I also tried transcoding into prores via different apps which didn't work as Canon uses a non standard color profile and no app actually recognizes this one correctly. My plan was to transcode directly from the memory card and therefor only have one copy. Didn't work. I can transcode to prores within final cut which works but then I have two copies. So I am using proxies for now
It contains a c-log to rec709 lut. But there’s also one on the canon website that works well. But go ahead and watch this video first 😉 th-cam.com/video/5XYO0sbwi10/w-d-xo.html
I have my R5 coming soon! Can't wait! Curious, why didn't you record externally to monitor so it's converted to ProRes right away? I have Ninja Atomos Flame thinking that's the best way to use R5. (Less overheating, easier file sizes) Love to hear your thoughts! =)
if this was my only camera I might record externally. I don't like those recorders though. Too small, not bright enough and one more point of failure. But again, if this was my main cam, I would use the ninja
Great video as always. I've been a fan of your work for a while and if I could pick one team on TH-cam that I'd love to have as a mentor, it would be Monkeypixels. I hope as time progresses, and firmware is released, the R5/R6 live up to your expectations and helps you guys to continue making great content. Btw, the R5 has the best dynamic range of any current full frame mirrorless camera in so far as the sensor goes (for raw photos). I think a good way to test what sort of dynamic range you can expect from Clog3 would be to shoot in 8K Raw, then use Clog3 (or Clog2) in the editor after, though I think you would have to use Resolve and I think you use FCPX. Just a thought. I know a few video guys who have tested this and the Raw footage has about 2 stops more dynamic range than the Clog. PS. You live an amazing looking place! So scenic!
Thanks for the praise and the continued support! We really appreciate that A LOT! And speaking of mentorship, I do offer 1:1 coachings on my website :D. As for the R6/R5. I really hope so too. External recording will help tremendously with editing. So that’s definitely a plus. And I didn’t experience any overheating in THIS scenario which isn’t to say I might in others
Ok,people, nice video, yet i want to make some things clear. The firmware update Cannot and will not do anything about an overheating camera. That's purely a physical/hardware issue, because when you have a LOT of heat, small space, and no way to dissipate it,it should just shut down,to protect itself. You cannot bypass the warnings nor 'hack' it,because if you do that, you leave the camera to possibly be damaged. The images and video are probably excellent yet Canon should have dome real world testing BEFORE they made the final camera body. For the money they are asking, and the hype about unlimited 4-8K recording,no one should have to record for 20-30 minutes and then have to turn off their camera.
that is not entirely correct. As Everything you said isn't false. The firmware update removed the artificial timer starting where the camera already crippled your record time without even recording. It also enabled and fine tuned actual heat sensors which weren't enabled before. So before the update you couldn't record any HQ video after shooting purely pictures for an hour. Now after the update that has completely changed and therefore is a game changer... And don't get me wrong. I hate those limitation and that they exists.. But after working with the camera for photography as well as video work, paid client work and youtube stuff.. I think the cam is amazing. Far from perfect, but amazing for me
@@damiencooper WRONG AGAIN.. The camera was touted as this amazing 8K camera without any recording limits. As far back as July 12th,there was already TH-camr reviewers and others who were crippled by the overheating issues.THE Canon updated the PDF file about the camera about the overheating. The FACT is,Canon released that camera with expectations it could not have possibly delivered on,because of hardware/physical combinations which CAUSE the overheating issues. It's SCIENCE,and the issue is not taking stills, which i never said,it's the VIDEO which causes the overheating and therefore the camera HAS to shut down. The limitation,as you put it,is a design flaw, which will happen to any component with a LOT of heat generated in a smallish body.Power amps, like Class A;AB,have heat sinks, fuses, fans,or some other form of convection cooling to KEEP THE DEVICE working or shut it off/standby,to prevent permanent damage. In contrast, the Panasonic S1/Sh1 series and the Canon C series cinema cameras have fans.So the attention is not on the ability to shoot a lot of great stills, its the short clips of video which disable the camera altogether. When a camera is OFF it cannot do anything,period.. If your car overheats on the road, and is sitting there smoking,it does not matter how fast it is 'supposed' to go,how amazing the tires are, etc, etc,it's still going to be sitting there, doing NOTHING..
@@damiencooper What a play with words,awwww...How cute. It's great stills camera that gets punked by it's own video, which kills the whole camera. For $3000+ dollars everyone deserves more than 30 minutes. It would be amazing if you can do 40 minutes clips, more than usual AND then switch directly to still mode and take 300 pictures, but that's not the case. There are hybrid cameras that can shoot 40,50,60 minutes and beyond, and immediately take as many still as the media cards allow, with NO shut off.

@@damiencooper .oh and why would you mention HQ video, when HQ video is already OLD tech? The point was supposed to be 4k@60 and all the way to 8k..
@@damiencooper July 12th..YT review about overheating,as an example..2 weeks later or so..Canon updates their PDF..August,they release the firmware update,a MONTH later, after preorders..I can CITE ALL of this, even from Canon..
Use ipad pro for R5 footages.
well, no thank you :D
@@damiencooper future computing is ARM.
dimitrimoonlight I know. I’ll get one as soon as one comes out. But I need a real editor
First?! Can't wait to see this!
Hihi,nicetomeetyou
didn't notice the hissing noise until I read the comments, maybe im deaf 😂
Good for you. Maybe it’s on a frequency like a dog whistle 😂
@@damiencooper haha that's hilarious about the dog whistle comment
@@damiencooper 😂😂😂
Amazing review. Now its 2020. When r u gonna quit apple so u can use 1/1 footage with a custom buuld pc? Come on we know u want that 😅👍
No current GPU supports the encoding currently. Not even the upcoming Nvidia series. The upcoming ARM Apple chips do though 😉
@@damiencooper what do u mean. I cut r5 footage with an i9 12 cores and 1080ti like butter. In 1/1 with no proxies.
Gerardo Gherman the 422 or the 420?
@@damiencooper 4k 60p 4k 120p even 8k raw. If u r in doubts let me know i can record myself reproducing 1/1 footage on premiere while doing lumetri color. Seriously... apple is way behind. I sold all my apple stuff and windows is not the boring unstable platform it once was... being in 2020 doing proxys is so 2017🤣
😍😍😍😍😍😍
Love the video but that hise noise is a big no no. I can't even get 1 min into the video sorry man but RIP to headphone users.
I know man. Add it to the list of things wrong with the R5 I guess. 😪
Didn’t have time to record it again as I’m going to Italy tomorrow
@@damiencooper it okay you still awesome buddy and safe trip
How much $$$$ a moth do you make from this YT channel?
39,99$
Maybe I'll make a video about that one day ;)
@@damiencooper less than $40 ?? In that case, how about reducing your annoying ad count. In 2 minutes, you had THREE ads. I stopped watching. If anything, wait until you get a lot more subscribes. Because as a starting YTubers, you can't afford to be losing/not gaining subs by all those interrupting commercials. $40/mo is not worth it.
I was with your mom that was obviously a joke. And if you can’t sit through 10sec of ads to support a fellow filmmaker who put in a lot of work creating content for the community, feel free to unsubscribe 😉. No hate. ✌🏼
@@damiencooper I never subscribed. 1st time seeing your vid. There are many other channels way better and way more established that have either less or no ads. I have channels with way more subscribers and views and I will never have ads. I do it for fun and to share. You are just out there for the money. Seriously, 3 god damn ads in 2 minutes???? But hey, don't listen to me and do your own thing if just a few bucks is worth it to you. You must be starving for money but not for subs.
@@iwaswithyourmom9410 well, no problem then ;) Moving on. Sorry to have stolen 10 seconds of your life.

What the hell is that noise?!? Can't even watch the video.
Good question. Recorded into the R5 directly. This is what I got
@@damiencooper that’s so weird. I have never had that issue with my R5.
