SUCH a great point about the importance of Raw converter choice. Almost all TH-camrs will compare cameras then complain about the colour and seem ignorant to the fact it's the Raw converter's profiles that determine the colour even more than the actual sensor. I also love the video you posted, taken with the standard profiles that look better than 99% of the footage I see out there using LOG and heavily colour graded.
7:07 I do! I love the R5m2 very much. However, shooting sports and coming from the R6m2 being my main (now it’s my backup) the high iso is seriously noticeable vs the R6m2. Once I put the files in my Lightroom, I was taken aback when I seen how much noise the files had in it. For portraits, though, the files were darn amazing! So for team and individual player photos I’ll be using the R5m2. But for action sports at night and or under stadium lights, the R6m2 will be the go to
Have have had the R5II now about 5 weeks and still have my R5. My feeling is that it's a nice upgrade, love the eye autofocus and this works really well and so quick to use. Agree with most of what you have said and in reality the images side by side of a static subject will not be meaningfully different as the R5 is still so good. I had an R6 as my second camera and wanted to upgrade to two R5's and now my original R5 is the second camera. It's more about usability and hit rate, new features that make life easier, new menus and improved Autofocus. It picks the eye up from a long way away and sticks to subjects in a crowd brilliantly without jumping to someone else in particular in low light. I am a wedding photographer, to isolating a person in a crowd is very important and the R5II does this so well and noticeably better than the original.
Hmm, thanks for the info. As a dance photographer, I find the R5 AF quite often does jump to another dancer and I have to force it back onto the subject. Sounds like an R5 II would be a real improvement in that area. But I still get a high hit rate with the R5, so maybe nice to upgrade in a year or two (not doing this as a hobby ;-))

Great video about the new Mark II for most users. You could hardly tell any difference between the original and Mark II in those photos. The video clips looked fantastic as well.
Hi irene , the caps has a trick, u need to align the cap-side that has an indent , on side to the red dot on the rim of camera, then turn it, it will be spot on, so it just means you have to make sure the red dot and the indent of the black cap matches , then u turn it
I suspect that the reason the RF rear lens caps are so weird is coming from the new RF bayonet design. While the mount is basically the same diameter than EF, the new RF mount would have to be made incompatible enough so they moved things around (making it less symmetric, if you look at it) and as a consequence they realized, probably too late in the development, that the rear lens cap could not work but in one unique position (while the EF has 3 positions about 120 degrees apart making it so easy to use). Well this is just my educated opinion about it, we will never know the real story for sure!

DxO analyzes almost all sensors and lenses from all manufacturers. This is why they are able to offer an excellent RAW converter in their DxO PhotoLabs and DxO PureRAW software. DxO PhotoLabs also offers a very simple solution for carrying out color calibration using color cards. I can confidently recommend these software products as very good RAW converters.

You just motivated to try and compare these two color space available in canon cameras sRGB vs Adobe RGB. R5 and R5 Mark II owner here! R5 is great photo first camera with good video features. R5 Mark II still a great photo camera however, it is a huge step up when it comes to video. Canon is bringing balance to the universe! I use R5 Mark II as A cam and R5 as B cam. I am focused more on video. R5 Mark II - better autofocus, more flexibility when shoting video, records audio in slow mo, better ergonomics, much more convenient button layout, 4 channel 24bit audio , taking jpegs when shoting video, better ibis, no record limit, full size HDMI, false color zebra, wave form (hopefully it will be adjustable in next firmware update because once it's on I don't see a lot) and AND is lighter! Btw, I have a friend who shots on 5D Mark II and is super happy with the results, still great camera to this day!
Yes! Mrk ii is amazing for hybrid shooters! Some awesome video features for sure As for color space, I’m not sure if setting a different color space in camera will effect the RAWs, I’ll have to experiment with that myself.
I'm using the original R6 (upgraded from 5D mk3) and still love it. I am planning to stay with the R6 line, I like having the dual SD cards and the video features are more than enough for the work that I do currently. I've used the R5 and it is a great camera but I don't have the need for the extra megapixels and features right now. I will wait to see what the next generation brings before I upgrade. I use white nail polish to make a line on my rear lens caps to make it easy to see where I need it to line up with the lens. Also, if you look at your lenses and can't see the red dot it is always close to if not right in line with the focus switch on the lens. That way even if you can't see the little red dot you can feel for the switch and know you are close.
R5 user here and I created a button shortcut to use the M-Fn button to switch between photo & video. And the Mode button to switch between Custom modes.
Love your attitude regarding upgrades to newer hardware. I also use my gear as long as I can before reaaaally wanting something newer. 4 years is nothing in terms of technological pace of today, even when marketing tries to tell you something different. 6+ years is totally fine for upgrade cycles, be it cameras, smartphones or computers =) And also nice review, thanks for your opinion on the camera =)
it's not the same sensor. while it's a 45mp sensor, it's a completely different design. as for Lightroom, I agree the Adobe color profiles were bad. But the Camera color profiles were much better as a starting point. I usually used Camera Standard Profile (which is to emulate your camera's camera profile so with canon, it's emulating Canon's Standard Profile).

removing the hotshoe cover is actually very easy. so if you look at the cover, there is an arrow toward your body (assuming the camera front is facing toward the front and the back panel display is facing your body)). if you put your fingernail in the gap at the back, you then push toward your body. So you aren't actually pressing downward. You're pushing toward your body. It actually requires very little force.
I have R5M2 and have had all the Canon cameras in the last 15 years (and Sony and others). I agree with Irene if all you are shooting are portraits, any Canon cameras from R5/R6 on including R6II and how can we forget R8 which, like R6II, has AF system lifted from R3, and is super small and costs $999 on sale sometimes, you pick any of these cameras and they will shoot great portraits and landscapes. I got R5M2 because I shoot birds, many times in flight, and while R8/R6II already has amazing Bird recognition, having 45mp is of great benefits to bird and wildlife shooters as you can never get close enough to your object and pretty much always need to crop, so 45MP is better than 24MP.
MP are mostly marketing. I've compared prints from the R6 II and R5 (large posters) and they look the same. The whole "crop" thing is sort of weird too because if you crop a 45 MP and 24 MP image by half the ratio is still the same so again, in print you wont notice a difference. In fact, Chris Hau made a fantastic video comparing the 12 MP A7SIII to a 100 MP Fuji Medium Format camera. He had pro photogs compare unmarked images from both on social media size, on a computer to fill the screen, medium sized print and LARGE poster prints.... nobody could pick the right one and in fact they usually thought the 12 MP image was the 100 MP images especially on the large poster. I can upscale 24 MP R6 II files using Adobe's Superscale built in to Adobe Camera Raw and even zoomed in to 100% on a 5K monitor I can't see any difference vs the R5 files. But I get the benefit of smaller files, less noise and faster bursts with the R6 II (and better AF for less money).
I have been using Canon R6mII since last year and I am completely happy with it, as I switched to this camera from a DSLR, and this is a very big difference.
Really nice to know I’m not the only one to be frustrated by the rf lens cap. If changing lenses out in the open you want to minimise time spent with the rear element exposed to the elements to have to fight with the fitting of the cap is really bad especially after the ef ones have been so easy - that’s PROGRESS I suppose!

I got it because I’m a videographer. But totally agree that if you’re a portrait photographer and have no real need for its new features…not worth it. I also shoot sports teams so it is quite amazing. Got the cooling grip and will use it for more video too.
@@IreneRudnyk After a few months and lots of use, LOVE LOVE LOVE the electronic shutter, no skew from rolling shutter...FINALLY can really use e-shutter 100%. So no wear and tear on the real shutter, just feels so responsive in comparison to the R5. AF is bonkers good, things that gave the R5 trouble, no longer do...its not perfect but it is signficantly better and more responsive. CLOG2 is really nice to work with and very forgiving. With the cooling grip, it basically runs 4k fine and 8kp30 until the dual batteries run out. The overheating meter comes on and tops out but the batteries fail before the camera stops due to heat. Still probably not enough to justify you getting one given your work, but I'm thrilled with its performance so far.
I Have the Canon 5 D mk3 since 2008 and still use it and give very much satisfaction. .I would really like to buy the R5 mk1 I saw the images my friends take but for now I am happy with my 5D mk 3 Thank you for this review Irene

Irene, at 1:55 that lens cap is easy, just like my Z6 caps, you use the gap in the knurling, !! !! to line up with the white/red dot for lens mounting!, so easy.
The rear cap on the RF-lenses are to line up when changing lenses. I put my new lens beside the camera, and the camera with current lens pointing down. When I turn the rear cap of the new lens until it stops and the cap is loose, I know that is my top point. So removing the current lens I just lift the new lens with stop point up and it smacks right onto the camera mount, no fiddeling. This can be done in pitch black.

6:00 OMG I was freaking out. I was pretty sure I was imagining it that LR had a different color cast to my images. I used to always import with a custom color calibration when I still used LR with my 5DMKiii, and now with the R6MKii I haven't found the "perfect" mix yet. Everything just always feels green lately and it's driving me insane. Thanks for highlighting this and comparing the different processors. No clue why I didn't think of that. Thank you Irene
I’m remember when I first tried Canon R after using 5D mrk iii and I was shocked! The colors were nothing like my “canon colors” I was used to, I really wish they would fix this but they don’t care🤷♀️ Capture One creates custom color profiles for each camera that’s released, that’s why it looks so much better. And of course Canon DPP is a native software so it has the most “canon” colors that should be the most accurate
A good friend just bought the R5 Mark II and he's impressed with the faster sensor (which reduces rolling shutter) and the animal tracking. For sports or animal photography, the Mark II is a big improvement. But I agree with Irene's position... I do portraits so those features don't really help me.
I personally just updgraded to the R5 mk II from the Canon 80D, so for me it was worth it! I definately agree though that the improvements between the R5 and the R5 mk II are minor for a not insignificant price difference. Appreaciate your videos, can't wait to learn more!
I was all excited about the eye tracking. I have used it and calibrated it a number of times but it’s still not tack on. Although I have glasses on. I just wish it would read your eye one time and be tacked on sharp!
100% true. I had an R6m2 (at the 1999 USD price point) budget, but it could cut my lens budget. So I went with the Canon R8, which is an awesome camera. Please make a video about the new RF28-70mm F2.8. It will help a lot of budget photographers like me.

Am sure your views will be good for this lens as a lot of budget photographers are looking for it. Whoever has already reviewed did post a lot of positive reviews hence I went ahead and bought it for my r6ii. It's an amazing lens , i would not say it's cheap because it does cost 105000 INR (1299 usd). I bought it mainly for video. It's an excellent lens surely. Light weight which is the biggest plus point for me.
Irina, R5II has the AA filter less intrusive than that one from the R5. For this reason the image is just a bit sharper on R5II. I have both cameras and I will tell you what my conclusion. After shooting for two months with R5II, is hard to go back to R5. Yes, is true, the R5 image is gorgeous, but the R5 is slower. Once you, as a user, became use to it (R5II), is hard to go back. Of course, if you don't have a Hasselblad. I am joking. Thank you for the review!
Well the Hasselblad is way slower than the original R5, but I don’t mind it, I actually like to slow down a bit sometimes. But again for me personally R5 is more than capable to taking sharp images and focuses just fine on my barely moving subjects. I’ll just have to skip this one and wait for a new model to come out in a few years :) Also it’s Irene, not Irina
Not too sure about an upgrade. Reasons being, when this camera was released, I went out and purchased 2 5DsR cameras, one of which has never been used! I don’t ever jump to the newest thing on the block. I know how and what I love shooting; and a camera with no mirror will not make a difference. I do think the R5 is an amazing piece of technology! I’ll wait for now.

@@IreneRudnyk I tried out the Fuji 100Sii for a week. Great camera, excellent Dynamic Range. I have the Canon R3 so found the auto focus slow of course. I had to slow down in shooting which isn't terrible at times. Unless you are capturing movement. I tried out the Hasselblad for a day. LOVE that camera it took me 20 minutes and felt so comfortable shooting with it. Camera and lens under 3 lbs It's as easy to use as an IPhone hahah focus was slower than the Fuji. It was fun working with MF. If the auto focus was better. I would prefer the Hasselblad.
The R5 with EF glass works just fine for my uses. Waiting for way better video performance (DR) out of the box camera. Then I will consider upgrading. Nice video explaining things.

100% spot on. Clearly, if your camera if failing or you have a process, like having two bodies, selling one to upgrade today instead of 4 years down the line is going to save you some money. She also underscores that there are important changes for Sports and wildlife. I shoot Nikon so I don't have any horse in this race.
4:27 - imho I think the R5 Mark II is the one on the rhs since the darks look darker, and the whites look less blown out. From looking at some other photos from R5 vs R5M2, it almost seems canon has done something to make highlights more recoverable SOOC to me.
I have a Nikon D780, upgraded last year from D3300. It's amazing! I have 35 (DX), 50 and 85 mm, all on 1.8. I don't think I need to upgrade, I just need more practice. I'm not a professional, photography is just a hobby for me. But I really wish one day I could have a tele lens, like 24-70 and an 85 1.4.
Good honest review again 🙂. The R5 is my workhorse camera for dance mainly, shooting most portraits on a Fuji GFX-50R. And then there's my film cameras, lol. But I'm not about to upgrade my camera either, unless it really improves my shooting. I'd rather invest in an extra strobe and/or light shaper, as I did this year.
I'm still using a Sony A7III. I'm only thinking about buying an A7CII as I only own one camera and need a backup and quite like the slightly smaller form factor. For my needs there's nothing in newer camera models that I need that the A7III doesn't offer. Even the new autofocus of the A7CII isn't necessary for my photography as I shoot with manual lenses. Cameras cost money so if your current camera is still good enough then it would save vital money not upgrading.
The RF caps can also be used with the EF lenses. Perhaps this leads to the RF caps being uncomfortable to handle on the RF lenses. I also complain that the red marking on the RF lenses cannot be felt by hand.
Very good video that goes in detail with demonstration comparing both and I agree on the color science, if its too green and flat, it takes away the main look. Personally I do prefer more red or magenta in the skin tones, because green just looks unnatural. For me, since Im not into wedding or event photography where you need automatic settings, I want to upgrade from Black Magic 6k Pro to the new full frame, because mine is Super 35 and I some times have trouble in smaller places and Id rather use full frame lenses on a full frame sensor and otherwise, I can crop in, which also works when you stabilize in-body and post or for Raw. And not to forget the better mount for lenses, as what I already have is EF and Id love to upgrade to L mount. As an interest, Im more inclined towards short films, music videos and cinematography with manual settings, but Im not pro or anything, Im just learning, thats why I dont share anything and i havent done any projects, but I hope to in the future, if I get better at it, so would love to know your experience with Black Magic cameras and especially to upgrade from 6k Pro Super35 with EF mount to 6k Full Frame with L Mount.
For weddings I'm currently shooting an EOS-R and an EOS-R6mkii. I'm considering upgrading the EOS-R, alone for the fact that it has dual card slots. I'm still leaning towards just buying another R6mkii rather than the R5mkii
The best way to know is to test the camera! My local camera store actually does free camera tests which is cool! I would recommend loaning the R5 mrk ii for a few days and getting some sample image , that will help you decide !
Ist es wirklich so schwer zu begreifen! Das Problem ist das der Deckel nur an einem Punkt aufgesetzt und gedreht werden kann! Bei allen anderen Herstellern kann man alle 120° den Deckel aufsetzen nur bei RF geht das nicht mehr! Das hat Canon total vesemmelt!
@irene With canon lens caps you have to line up the cap marking with the red line on the lens then put it on and twist. It’s kinda dump that it only goes on one way but yeah.
The individual face detect feature is great! Sony's had it for a decade, now. Does it work? I dunno. Does it seem really cool to a bride and groom and make them more reassured that they're getting the best possible photography on the most important day of their lives so far? Definitely.
The video button change is horrible for wildlife photographers with a big super telephoto lens. A better implementation would have been the same video on/off that the R3 uses (and the R1). But hey, it seems Canon is desperate to differentiate camera models by the usage of the CrippleHammer instead of actually treating customers with respect. I'm glad I'm not the only 1 who has issues with the RF rear lens cap. Horrible imho.
The background music makes it difficult to understand the language. The music is particularly disturbing for non-native speakers. Perhaps a compromise would be to reduce the volume of the music significantly. Otherwise, thank you very much for your interesting video! Best wishes, Bert
at 5:33 there is a difference, for us film and mf/Lf photographers, we can pick it up, the hair in the sunlight, on the left, on the R5ii its more sharp, you can see the "micro-contrast", each hair is distinguishable, on the left image its all hidden by the bokeh.
Good and fair video - R5 is one of the best FF ML ever - certainly gave kick up Nikon's behind for them to bring out the Z9 and Z8, it's bit cheeky though Canon asking another £1000+ for the MK 2 over the MK 1 - certainly hard to justify the upgrade price and probably not worth it - if owner has the legendary R5 MK 1 already.
The rf cap is pretty easy to understand when you get it 🤣, you have a "line" on the cap, that should match the red line of the glass. If that makes sense ?

I use Lightroom with the Color Fidelity Fine Detail V5 profile, super skin tones. It's slightly better than Capture One with all the Lightroom advantages. Oh yes, I'm keeping my R5 too. It was five years ahead when released and still tops vs. the competition. Just look at the design and how modern it is compared to Leica, Nikon, Sony, etc. It fits my large hands like a glove with all buttons places strategically...the texture, the rounded corners. Nobody does better. I still love the power switch on the left...I hold the camera with two hands, and my thumb goes right to it! The skin color rendering....forget about it...hands down the best. I know TH-cam influencers are ticked about third party lens...too bad for your attempt to make more gear videos and lost revenue. Hoping Canon continues to chop out lousy Chinese knockoffs, Tamron and such...it would hurt the brand. Saying that, looking forward to more Canon glass going forward. I put a line on the new rear lens caps with a silver sharpie marker that lines up with the dot on the lens. Makes it so much easier to lineup and use.

I have the R6, I too noticed the green hue. I set my profile to Faithful and M2 B2 after tweaking in DPP. Been much happier since I made the change.

DxO analyzes almost all sensors and lenses from all manufacturers. This is why they are able to offer an excellent RAW converter in their DxO PhotoLabs and DxO PureRAW software. DxO PhotoLabs also offers a very simple solution for carrying out color calibration using color cards. I can confidently recommend these software products as very good RAW converters.

R5 and R5 Mark II owner here! R5 is great photo first camera with good video features. R5 Mark II still a great photo camera however, it is a huge step up when it comes to video. Canon is bringing balance to the universe! I use R5 Mark II as A cam and R5 as B cam. I am focused more on video.
R5 Mark II - better autofocus, more flexibility when shoting video, records audio in slow mo, better ergonomics, much more convenient button layout, 4 channel 24bit audio , taking jpegs when shoting video, better ibis, no record limit, full size HDMI, false color zebra, wave form (hopefully it will be adjustable in next firmware update because once it's on I don't see a lot) and AND is lighter!
Btw, I have a friend who shots on 5D Mark II and is super happy with the results, still great camera to this day!

As for color space, I’m not sure if setting a different color space in camera will effect the RAWs, I’ll have to experiment with that myself.
I'm using the original R6 (upgraded from 5D mk3) and still love it. I am planning to stay with the R6 line, I like having the dual SD cards and the video features are more than enough for the work that I do currently. I've used the R5 and it is a great camera but I don't have the need for the extra megapixels and features right now. I will wait to see what the next generation brings before I upgrade.
I use white nail polish to make a line on my rear lens caps to make it easy to see where I need it to line up with the lens. Also, if you look at your lenses and can't see the red dot it is always close to if not right in line with the focus switch on the lens. That way even if you can't see the little red dot you can feel for the switch and know you are close.
R5 user here and I created a button shortcut to use the M-Fn button to switch between photo & video. And the Mode button to switch between Custom modes.

Love your attitude regarding upgrades to newer hardware. I also use my gear as long as I can before reaaaally wanting something newer. 4 years is nothing in terms of technological pace of today, even when marketing tries to tell you something different. 6+ years is totally fine for upgrade cycles, be it cameras, smartphones or computers =)

it's not the same sensor. while it's a 45mp sensor, it's a completely different design. as for Lightroom, I agree the Adobe color profiles were bad. But the Camera color profiles were much better as a starting point. I usually used Camera Standard Profile (which is to emulate your camera's camera profile so with canon, it's emulating Canon's Standard Profile).

removing the hotshoe cover is actually very easy. so if you look at the cover, there is an arrow toward your body (assuming the camera front is facing toward the front and the back panel display is facing your body)). if you put your fingernail in the gap at the back, you then push toward your body. So you aren't actually pressing downward. You're pushing toward your body. It actually requires very little force.
I have R5M2 and have had all the Canon cameras in the last 15 years (and Sony and others). I agree with Irene if all you are shooting are portraits, any Canon cameras from R5/R6 on including R6II and how can we forget R8 which, like R6II, has AF system lifted from R3, and is super small and costs $999 on sale sometimes, you pick any of these cameras and they will shoot great portraits and landscapes. I got R5M2 because I shoot birds, many times in flight, and while R8/R6II already has amazing Bird recognition, having 45mp is of great benefits to bird and wildlife shooters as you can never get close enough to your object and pretty much always need to crop, so 45MP is better than 24MP.
MP are mostly marketing. I've compared prints from the R6 II and R5 (large posters) and they look the same. The whole "crop" thing is sort of weird too because if you crop a 45 MP and 24 MP image by half the ratio is still the same so again, in print you wont notice a difference. In fact, Chris Hau made a fantastic video comparing the 12 MP A7SIII to a 100 MP Fuji Medium Format camera. He had pro photogs compare unmarked images from both on social media size, on a computer to fill the screen, medium sized print and LARGE poster prints.... nobody could pick the right one and in fact they usually thought the 12 MP image was the 100 MP images especially on the large poster.
I can upscale 24 MP R6 II files using Adobe's Superscale built in to Adobe Camera Raw and even zoomed in to 100% on a 5K monitor I can't see any difference vs the R5 files. But I get the benefit of smaller files, less noise and faster bursts with the R6 II (and better AF for less money).

Really nice to know I’m not the only one to be frustrated by the rf lens cap. If changing lenses out in the open you want to minimise time spent with the rear element exposed to the elements to have to fight with the fitting of the cap is really bad especially after the ef ones have been so easy - that’s PROGRESS I suppose!

I got it because I’m a videographer. But totally agree that if you’re a portrait photographer and have no real need for its new features…not worth it. I also shoot sports teams so it is quite amazing. Got the cooling grip and will use it for more video too.

@@IreneRudnyk After a few months and lots of use, LOVE LOVE LOVE the electronic shutter, no skew from rolling shutter...FINALLY can really use e-shutter 100%. So no wear and tear on the real shutter, just feels so responsive in comparison to the R5. AF is bonkers good, things that gave the R5 trouble, no longer do...its not perfect but it is signficantly better and more responsive. CLOG2 is really nice to work with and very forgiving. With the cooling grip, it basically runs 4k fine and 8kp30 until the dual batteries run out. The overheating meter comes on and tops out but the batteries fail before the camera stops due to heat. Still probably not enough to justify you getting one given your work, but I'm thrilled with its performance so far.
I upgraded to R5mk2 from 5Dmk4 and this camera is a beast!

Irene, at 1:55 that lens cap is easy, just like my Z6 caps, you use the gap in the knurling, !! !! to line up with the white/red dot for lens mounting!, so easy.
The rear cap on the RF-lenses are to line up when changing lenses. I put my new lens beside the camera, and the camera with current lens pointing down. When I turn the rear cap of the new lens until it stops and the cap is loose, I know that is my top point. So removing the current lens I just lift the new lens with stop point up and it smacks right onto the camera mount, no fiddeling. This can be done in pitch black.

Thanks for the video! With the release of the EOS R5 MARK II I felt the prices of a used R5 MARK I were reasonable enough to finally upgrade from an EOS 5D MARK IV.
6:00 OMG I was freaking out. I was pretty sure I was imagining it that LR had a different color cast to my images. I used to always import with a custom color calibration when I still used LR with my 5DMKiii, and now with the R6MKii I haven't found the "perfect" mix yet. Everything just always feels green lately and it's driving me insane. Thanks for highlighting this and comparing the different processors. No clue why I didn't think of that. Thank you Irene
I’m remember when I first tried Canon R after using 5D mrk iii and I was shocked! The colors were nothing like my “canon colors” I was used to, I really wish they would fix this but they don’t care🤷♀️
Capture One creates custom color profiles for each camera that’s released, that’s why it looks so much better. And of course Canon DPP is a native software so it has the most “canon” colors that should be the most accurate

A good friend just bought the R5 Mark II and he's impressed with the faster sensor (which reduces rolling shutter) and the animal tracking. For sports or animal photography, the Mark II is a big improvement. But I agree with Irene's position... I do portraits so those features don't really help me.
I personally just updgraded to the R5 mk II from the Canon 80D, so for me it was worth it! I definately agree though that the improvements between the R5 and the R5 mk II are minor for a not insignificant price difference. Appreaciate your videos, can't wait to learn more!

I was all excited about the eye tracking. I have used it and calibrated it a number of times but it’s still not tack on. Although I have glasses on. I just wish it would read your eye one time and be tacked on sharp!

100% true. I had an R6m2 (at the 1999 USD price point) budget, but it could cut my lens budget. So I went with the Canon R8, which is an awesome camera. Please make a video about the new RF28-70mm F2.8. It will help a lot of budget photographers like me.

Am sure your views will be good for this lens as a lot of budget photographers are looking for it. Whoever has already reviewed did post a lot of positive reviews hence I went ahead and bought it for my r6ii. It's an amazing lens , i would not say it's cheap because it does cost 105000 INR (1299 usd). I bought it mainly for video. It's an excellent lens surely. Light weight which is the biggest plus point for me.
There is a line on the lens cap that you line up with the red dot on the lens to get it on easier.
Irina, R5II has the AA filter less intrusive than that one from the R5. For this reason the image is just a bit sharper on R5II. I have both cameras and I will tell you what my conclusion. After shooting for two months with R5II, is hard to go back to R5. Yes, is true, the R5 image is gorgeous, but the R5 is slower. Once you, as a user, became use to it (R5II), is hard to go back. Of course, if you don't have a Hasselblad. I am joking. Thank you for the review!
Well the Hasselblad is way slower than the original R5, but I don’t mind it, I actually like to slow down a bit sometimes. But again for me personally R5 is more than capable to taking sharp images and focuses just fine on my barely moving subjects.
I’ll just have to skip this one and wait for a new model to come out in a few years :)

Not too sure about an upgrade. Reasons being, when this camera was released, I went out and purchased 2 5DsR cameras, one of which has never been used! I don’t ever jump to the newest thing on the block. I know how and what I love shooting; and a camera with no mirror will not make a difference. I do think the R5 is an amazing piece of technology! I’ll wait for now.

@@IreneRudnyk I tried out the Fuji 100Sii for a week. Great camera, excellent Dynamic Range. I have the Canon R3 so found the auto focus slow of course. I had to slow down in shooting which isn't terrible at times. Unless you are capturing movement. I tried out the Hasselblad for a day. LOVE that camera it took me 20 minutes and felt so comfortable shooting with it. Camera and lens under 3 lbs It's as easy to use as an IPhone hahah focus was slower than the Fuji. It was fun working with MF. If the auto focus was better. I would prefer the Hasselblad.
It's it's funny what makes a difference. I have a Canon R8 for my infrared camera. The On-Lock-Off switch is a feature every camera should have.
The R5 with EF glass works just fine for my uses. Waiting for way better video performance (DR) out of the box camera. Then I will consider upgrading. Nice video explaining things.
Portrait and Landscape should just keep the R5, if you do Wildlife and action or BIF then the R5ii has more to offer. Great overview
Regarding the hot shoe cap, if it’s difficult to remove, it’s harder to loose.

100% spot on. Clearly, if your camera if failing or you have a process, like having two bodies, selling one to upgrade today instead of 4 years down the line is going to save you some money. She also underscores that there are important changes for Sports and wildlife. I shoot Nikon so I don't have any horse in this race.
Those R5mk2 video portraits are *stunning*! Can you do that on your R5? If not, why wouldn't you go for the mk2 for that capability?
4:27 - imho I think the R5 Mark II is the one on the rhs since the darks look darker, and the whites look less blown out. From looking at some other photos from R5 vs R5M2, it almost seems canon has done something to make highlights more recoverable SOOC to me.

I have a Nikon D780, upgraded last year from D3300. It's amazing! I have 35 (DX), 50 and 85 mm, all on 1.8. I don't think I need to upgrade, I just need more practice. I'm not a professional, photography is just a hobby for me. But I really wish one day I could have a tele lens, like 24-70 and an 85 1.4.

Funnily enough, the M-Fn button works perfectly as a photo/video switch on an R5. Very easy to reach, if I already have the viewfinder up to my eye.

Good honest review again 🙂. The R5 is my workhorse camera for dance mainly, shooting most portraits on a Fuji GFX-50R. And then there's my film cameras, lol. But I'm not about to upgrade my camera either, unless it really improves my shooting. I'd rather invest in an extra strobe and/or light shaper, as I did this year.
I'm still using a Sony A7III. I'm only thinking about buying an A7CII as I only own one camera and need a backup and quite like the slightly smaller form factor. For my needs there's nothing in newer camera models that I need that the A7III doesn't offer. Even the new autofocus of the A7CII isn't necessary for my photography as I shoot with manual lenses. Cameras cost money so if your current camera is still good enough then it would save vital money not upgrading.

The RF caps can also be used with the EF lenses. Perhaps this leads to the RF caps being uncomfortable to handle on the RF lenses. I also complain that the red marking on the RF lenses cannot be felt by hand.
Just mine the cap with the red marker and twist. But I agree when you are in a shoot trying to line it up it’s a pain.
I took a White marker pen and filled in that indent on the rear cap so it shows up better so you can find the mark on the rear of the lens.
Someone had a similar tip! I’m definitely going to do that!
1:40 Took me a while to notice it. If you line up the grove on the edge of the cap with the red dot on the lens it works on the first try.

I have the R6ii. If I sell it, it will be because the sound of the sensor clunking around when turned off drove me to do it.
There's one different wider groove on the cap that you align it with the red dot on the lens. Easy peasy!!❤❤

Very good video that goes in detail with demonstration comparing both and I agree on the color science, if its too green and flat, it takes away the main look. Personally I do prefer more red or magenta in the skin tones, because green just looks unnatural.
For me, since Im not into wedding or event photography where you need automatic settings, I want to upgrade from Black Magic 6k Pro to the new full frame, because mine is Super 35 and I some times have trouble in smaller places and Id rather use full frame lenses on a full frame sensor and otherwise, I can crop in, which also works when you stabilize in-body and post or for Raw. And not to forget the better mount for lenses, as what I already have is EF and Id love to upgrade to L mount.
As an interest, Im more inclined towards short films, music videos and cinematography with manual settings, but Im not pro or anything, Im just learning, thats why I dont share anything and i havent done any projects, but I hope to in the future, if I get better at it, so would love to know your experience with Black Magic cameras and especially to upgrade from 6k Pro Super35 with EF mount to 6k Full Frame with L Mount.
For weddings I'm currently shooting an EOS-R and an EOS-R6mkii. I'm considering upgrading the EOS-R, alone for the fact that it has dual card slots. I'm still leaning towards just buying another R6mkii rather than the R5mkii
The best way to know is to test the camera! My local camera store actually does free camera tests which is cool! I would recommend loaning the R5 mrk ii for a few days and getting some sample image , that will help you decide !

The individual face detect feature is great! Sony's had it for a decade, now. Does it work? I dunno. Does it seem really cool to a bride and groom and make them more reassured that they're getting the best possible photography on the most important day of their lives so far? Definitely.
I said many times that R5II is an excellent upgrade for wildlife, especially bird photographers.

The video button change is horrible for wildlife photographers with a big super telephoto lens. A better implementation would have been the same video on/off that the R3 uses (and the R1). But hey, it seems Canon is desperate to differentiate camera models by the usage of the CrippleHammer instead of actually treating customers with respect.
I'm glad I'm not the only 1 who has issues with the RF rear lens cap. Horrible imho.

at 5:33 there is a difference, for us film and mf/Lf photographers, we can pick it up, the hair in the sunlight, on the left, on the R5ii its more sharp, you can see the "micro-contrast", each hair is distinguishable, on the left image its all hidden by the bokeh.

Good and fair video - R5 is one of the best FF ML ever - certainly gave kick up Nikon's behind for them to bring out the Z9 and Z8, it's bit cheeky though Canon asking another £1000+ for the MK 2 over the MK 1 - certainly hard to justify the upgrade price and probably not worth it - if owner has the legendary R5 MK 1 already.

The rf cap is pretty easy to understand when you get it 🤣, you have a "line" on the cap, that should match the red line of the glass. If that makes sense ?

I use Lightroom with the Color Fidelity Fine Detail V5 profile, super skin tones. It's slightly better than Capture One with all the Lightroom advantages. Oh yes, I'm keeping my R5 too. It was five years ahead when released and still tops vs. the competition. Just look at the design and how modern it is compared to Leica, Nikon, Sony, etc. It fits my large hands like a glove with all buttons places strategically...the texture, the rounded corners. Nobody does better. I still love the power switch on the left...I hold the camera with two hands, and my thumb goes right to it! The skin color rendering....forget about it...hands down the best. I know TH-cam influencers are ticked about third party lens...too bad for your attempt to make more gear videos and lost revenue. Hoping Canon continues to chop out lousy Chinese knockoffs, Tamron and such...it would hurt the brand. Saying that, looking forward to more Canon glass going forward. Thanks for the great video and your honesty!
