I quilted my first quilt project when my daughter was in kindergarten. I was busy and did not quilt again until my daughter was a Freshman in High school five years ago. I was just doing four patches and nine patches until I came upon your tutorials a couple of years ago, I have made a few baby quilts for family members and two breast cancer quilts using the quilt as you go method. I would like to thank you for the simple and straightforward easy instructions to quilting. You let us know it's ok not to be perfect and that gives me confidence to try new things.
Thank you so much for the wonderful comment! I'm so glad you were able to pick back up on sewing and quilting!! :) I would love to see some pictures of projects!!!
I want to thank you for all of your tutorials I get all of the Missouri Star books and they are quite helpful but when I have a tutorial that I can look at I can really make sure to finish a project other magazines leave me wanting more when I can watch your tutorial I learned so much more and you're always so much fun and your guests are great they also have a wonderful spirit I thank God there's a place like your company Missouri Star quilt who invites others to share their crafts. I've just went on today and I haven't seen any of your tutorials in months and this is an old one by crafty Gemini and Missouri Star but I still love it and it makes me want to get up and go and sew thank you for getting the word out and helping all of us who are afraid to start feel confident Krissy Bennett
I'm not a Gemini but a Cancer, my oldest grandson is a Gemini (June 13). I just love this project. I've made several quilts using the 2 1/2 inch strips so I have lots of scraps that I can use to make this bag. What a great and easy way to use them. Thanks Jenny, you are a peach!!!
I bought this In-R-Form batting a year ago and finally used it last week. Made my own bag pattern and really loved the way it turned out. My only problem was sewing the side seams together where you had a double layer of the foam. Had to go out and buy an upholstery needle and thread to complete that part of the construction. My niece is getting married next week and going on a Disney cruise for her Honeymoon. I made a Minnie/Mickey lined bag with inside pockets and a zipper placket. Also used the In-R-Form to make a cosmetic bag. Also turned out beautiful. Absolutely love this stuff. Just be sure to have a heavy duty (or Embroidery) needle for the construction part of your bag. Too bad we can't add pictures on here.
Great new foam product, Thanks Vanessa. You and Jenny look great, working in unison like you all have been together for a long time. EXTRAORDINARY TUTORIAL as always. Thank you
This is a great tutorial! Jenny you and Vanessa really make it easy - you are both great instructors. This pattern is a great hit with my friends. I made one bag for me and now I'm making 8 more from requests from my friends.
I'm a Gemini, as well, and I love this project! My daughter -in-law is a bag person and a Gemini and will love this in a little bigger size. She has twins, too.
I have just recently discovered these tutorials and it has really reinvigorated my love of sewing/quilting. I finally started and finished my first quilt recently (jelly roll race) and made this bag. I had so much fun making this bag and really appreciate how easy you make everything! Keep on quilting!
Two of my favourite teachers in one video, I love it! This tote just screams "Fussy Cut!!" Definitely tucking the idea in my back pocket for a rainy day :)
My two favorites together... :))) I have been making "my own quilted fabric" for years... .. Even bought a quilt frame and machine to make it from all my stash and create totes and zips...can't wait to try this product. Do more girls!! GB
I will think of you on my birthday, when I will be in Minneapolis for a holiday from the UK, I'm also June 11th. I am just starting in quilting and loving all your tutorials xx Keep them coming...
LOVE this tutorial! My two favorite teachers in one video! Absolutely the best! You gals make a great team and I laughed and laughed with you both! Great bag and great teachers! Thanks!
Oh my goodness....my two favorite people in one place. Love it...and also the tutorial is awesome! Thank you both so very much...don't know what I would do without both of your tutorials!
Love your tutorials! You are both so fun to watch learn from! I just discovered your tutorials 2 months ago. I have made half square triangles by sewing around the square. That is so great Thank you.
This was so incredibly easy both of my daughters made one for themselves. I haven't been able to get my 12 year old very interested in quilting but she made a tote!
Jenny and Vanessa, thank you for sharing all of your crafting knowledge! Without Jennys fantastic videos I would have never been able to finish a quilt! (I am binding challenged) lol
Lawanda Hony I know many of us have felt binding challenged at one time or another!! Keep it up and it'll slowly seem a little bit easier :) Thank you for your comment!!
Two of my favorite gals in one video!!! Woohoo! Great tote and that foam is awesome! Can't wait to make one of my own! Hope to see you both together again soon...would love to see an I pad cover!
TheCraftyGemini Bought some and made a bag. I absolutely love it! I included a lot of pockets so all the gadgets I use for crocheting and knitting are organized and really easy to find. Now I can enjoy my crafts everywhere, even while traveling (of course, while somebody else is the driver!)
Oh my! I love, love, love how easy this project is. I can't wait to go shopping and get started. I can even do this whole my baby is taking his naps. Yep, I am ditching one cleaning routine for this much fun. Tank you, thank you, thank you!
Yippee! I just saw this tutorial Wednesday night, got my In R Form Plus yesterday and started my purse today. I didn't have much time to work on it today, but I can't wait to work on it tomorrow. Thank you both for a very well made tutorial and a great purse idea.
I saw this video the other day for the first time and it was either part 1 or 2 that you girls were chatting about both being Geminis. Vanessa, I think you said you were born on June 1st and I think Jenny was born on June 11th and I had to laugh because my birthday is June 21st. I thought it is no wonder I like these girls. I think that Geminis must just be crafty creative people. I loved this video set.
Loma Mallard......I love this tutorial for the Improv Tote so much that I made 5 for Christmas gifts! Everyone loved their gifts and I turned several friends on to your website. I love your fabric selections in precuts, the tutorials, and Jenny! You do an amazing job of making quilting easy. Thank you
Update: the already-made top worked out great! I used a jelly roll race top from your earlier video and it ended up being so easy! Thanks so much for all the useful tips 😊.
I love, love, love so many of your tutorials but to date the Improv Tote is my absolute favorite. I FOLLOW YOUR TH-cam CHANNEL as well as Vanessa of Crafty Gemini. The two of you make a great team!
Thanks! Glad you are enjoying it. Jenny totally caught me off guard with that "I'm a Gemini, too" comment. I looked like a crazy person on camera because of her! LOL
TheCraftyGemini You look like you both are having a blast, seems like you both have similar personalities. Glad you have become friends, BTW not crazy, but goofy fun, and entertainingly educational for the rest of us. Thanks.
As someone very new to quilting, I love this bag. It gives me an idea of some of the basics and was very easy to make. I have made one quilt for Quilts of Valor, which went to my husband. The pattern was just blocks in strips, alternating the blocks.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Seeing my two most favorite quilt teachers together! I've learned a lot from the two of you! Great to learn about that new stuff In R Form Plus. Thanks Vanessa, I can now go crazy with my fabric scraps and make bags for gifts! I like that stuff better than the stiff interfacing I currently have!
Love it! My two favorite crafty ladies together at last! I hope this is one of many. Love this tote tutorial, what a great project. Can't wait to make a few, thanks.
My Bernina Bernette 50 machine would NOT sew the tote bag shut with the regular presser foot and regular needle - I kept getting "bird's nests" underneath from my top thread. I am so glad I already had a walking foot and a needle for "Heavy Duty" fabrics, or I would not have been able to finish this project. Please keep in mind you may need to suggest other attachments for those of us with less expensive sewing machines. Great project, so glad I was able to finish it!
I've been waiting to do this project for what, 2 years? No, where does the time go? Have a quilter friend/former co-worker coming over the end of next month to work on a project together and now's the time to get out those jelly rolls I've been stashing and make a couple of these adorable bags. You mentioned Jenny that this project would be in a block magazine. I've got quite a few but I've either overlooked it in the ones I have or I don't have the book. Which one did it go in? So glad your tutorials stay active. Seriously! 2 years since this was on. This was one of my favorite tutorials and my first ever introduction to Crafty Gemini. Love you both. Any more projects with this material from In R Form?
love both your channels. I'm a newbie quilter and I have already subbed to your channels so I am thrilled to find this video. Yall work so well together. I hope Yall do more videos.
Thank you for the tutorial! I made a blast making my first one. My preferences are that the boxed corners should be trimmed and the lining should be interfaced with SF101. I didn't do either of those this time because I wanted to stick with the original method. The bag turned out really nice, though. What a fun scrap buster project!

Great project. Saw the finished project from a lady of FB and found the site. I love your interaction ladies.
