As a youngster I lusted after a Videopac in my local electronics shop, and used to go through the poorly copied catalogue wishing my parents would pay stupid money for one with a copy of Terrahawks, no chance. 30 years later I bought my own from E-Bay, collected a load of games and enjoy it to this day, one of my favourite systems. Even better with the multicart.
I had one of these! Late 80s, when it was already obsolete. Pretty sure it was a hand-me-down. It was my first ‘computer’ and I used it a lot, making levels for Munchkin and playing a catapult game with my nan. I’m pretty sure I had a golfing game too. That invaders style game demonstrates what it could do but most games were too simplistic.
Good to see the videopac get some love. My great uncle was a sales rep for them in the UK. So i think we got it and games discounted. In fact I loved the games so much. That I ported killer bees, terrahawks and pickaxe pete to the Spectrum. I also ported killer bees, terrahawks and munchkin to the Amiga.
Hello!!! That's brilliant! I love killer bees and pickaxe Pete. Are the spectrum ports available online? Love this! Such a lovely system. It makes me smile everytime I see mine.
Ah memories. My dad worked for Philips in those days so having Philips stuff in our home was basically a requirement. (as far as I am aware he did not work on the G7000) Have had many hours of fun with this system until a nephew broke it. However by that time I also had an Atari 2600 so it never got replaced. In France it was called the "Radiola Jet 25" as far as I know (yes, I am aware this G7000 was also build in France, Philips had factories working for them all over Europe) and they had a version called Videopac N60 which had a build in screen.
@@SebsPlaceYT There should a channel select switch somewhere on the console to set what channel you have to tune to with the TV to receive the "broadcast" They get dirty and cause all that snow. VERY common on retrogaming systems. Some will have the switch on the inside of the machine. The early 2600s for example don't have an accessible channel select switch on the outside. In the US, the output was usually channel 2, 3 or 4 (2 or 3 or 3 or 4 depending on the console). Problem is, if it were 3 and you had a local channel 3, it would interfere. That's why they have the channel select switch.
@@SebsPlaceYT It might be that in the UK they didn't use it, but I think other UK consoles do. I would open it up. I have like 15 Atari 2600s and every one of them was filling the screen with snow and I just thought they had weak signals. But I tried cleaning the channel selectors (this was like 15-20 years ago) and it cleaned up every single one of them. The Colecovision and Intellivision have the same problem. I haven't look at my O2 in so long that I don't remember if it has one or not. But it most likely does. The colecovision also has a power switch that will cause the same problem if it is dirty. So you might want to clean that one too. One last thing you can try is to change the power brick you are using for that USB conversion you did. Some of these bricks are VERY noisy. A noisy brick could also cause this problem.
I got one of these at a jumble sale in the 90's for £1. Same as yours with the hard wired joysticks and PSU but only 2 carts. I got it home only to find it had serious water damage inside. Completely beyond repair, but the joysticks were still in good shape. I put a standard joystick plug on them and they are great. I still use one with my Speccy.
Blimey nice one! I've had a few people tell me they love those joysticks but I was just going on how badly they are made. Didn't get a chance to play them as they were broken 😒
I owned a G7000 I think in 1980 or something and I played it a lot. But even then I realized how bad it was. I got it because it was the only gaming console our local electronic store offered. Horrible times in a small city back then in Germany without Internet and info about what's available in the world. I had good times with it and it started my video game obsession that lasts to this day with PS5, VR headsets etc. After the g7000 I got a ZX81 and then a spectrum where I leaned to code. I got a developer later on. I subscribed to crash magazine for the spectrum and improved my English skills by reading almost only English language magazines because Germany was not a spectrum country. Everybody had a C64. But I loved the British home computers more.
Love this, thanks for sharing. Love that you got into the Sinclair machines. I was aware that C64's really ruled the roost in Germany so to have a Speccy is pretty cool.
Back in the day while most of my friends had a Classic Atari 2600 or even an intellivision, a couple of mates had G7000s. Despite being mocked as the colecovision (or Vectrex) had arrived, Phillips system had a clutch of truly great games, at least in my humble opinion anyway. My personal favourites were Satellite Attack (which was the pack-in game at the time), Munchkin and it's sequel Crazy Chase, Freedom Fighters, Pickaxe Pete and Turtles. All I had access to at the time was a ZX81, so I was beyond envious. Hopefully I'll see a system going for a reasonable price on ebay at some point and add one to my collection?
Hope you do mate! I love mine, just makes me smile. I have no nostalgia for the vcs or g7000 etc but playing any of those systems today and the g7000 still truly stands up. Not sure many of the others do of those early 8 bits.
Out of interest, does any other computer or console peak your interest enough to buy one. Never really give this one a thought, being so old I thought the games would be below Atari 2600 standards and I've always thought the games were basic on that machine. Gameplay is king though and you've definitely peaked my interest after a few games you showed. As always thanks for something a little different and fresh 👍
You are quite a prankster. The videopac is abysmal. Back in the day every kid hated it. But some stupid parents thought it was a good idea, with keyboard, very educational🤣
If I lived in Europe or the UK, I would have gotten the 7200. It's a much more intesting machine and the monitor would almost certainly be very low hours.
I still have my 02 from way back in the day. Though there are a couple of good games for it, one of which cannot be found anywhere else (Pickax Pete), the system is crap. The controllers are crap and most of the games are crap. I only had a couple of games for it BITD, but the games were on the order of 1st generation (TTL) games. The system is just incredibly weak.
You know I own some real Speccys, some real C64/C128s, some real Amigas and a real CDTV, a real TI-99 4/a and Yes! even a real Phillips Videopac G7000... and have had it since, I don't quite remember when, but at least before the appearance of the infamous human malware. So, long before I discovered your channel and got this vital and life saving advice of yours. I mean... for real, seriously dude! (Nick Cage voice) dude seriously! - what are the odds? 🥸😆

Would be a good comment if it wasn't for your fascist profile pic.

I've seen pictures of the model with a screen. Bonkers really that they considered that. Cheers for the comment, I enjoyed reading that 👍
To get rid of the noise, clean the channel select switch with deoxit.
Channel select switch?

There is a punched bit of plastic on the back with said numbers but no selection. Looks like room for a switch for some regions / versions
