  • This is a comparison video of the EV Zxa1Sub and the Yamaha Dxs12 Sub. The test was conducted with no EQ, meaning all knobs were at 0db, using a Yamaha MG10XU. Music was kept under a loop the entire time of the sound check/test. Tops used were the FBT ProMaxX10a.

    Thanks a whoooole lot for posting this. I bought the dsx12 today and was blown away by the demo at the store. The bass was very very tight playing dubstep for the price.

    Very grateful for you taking the time to do this test. I'm in a 3pc R&R (50's-80's) band and I think that little Yamaha is what we need to go with our old Peavey Scorpian 12's.We do small to medium clubs with no more than 250 people. Drums, Bass, Guitar and vocals. Sincere Thanks, Don

    Hi. great comparison video. I just got a pair of yamaha dxr 12 tops. I was leaning toward yamaha dxs 12 but it was just too heavy for mobile. it almost weigh as my 18s subs. so i purchased the EV EKX 15sp.

    I've been using the EV's for 2 years now. I have two of them. So yes, one won't do it. But it was never meant to be a solo sub setup. I will take two of these over 1 QSC Ksub any day. Plus they're cheaper even when buying 2.
    My setup 2 EV ZLX-12's and 2 of these EV subs. Plus a bunch of other toys. ;)

    BEST sub have heard under £1000 is the Alto BLACK sub15.
    Its VERY small for a 15, but weighs 42KG!!
    Really, check this sub out. Not many people are talking about it and its insane brother the BLACK 18.
    Band pass subs like the Yamaha DXS12 and DXS15 go loud for their size, but they don't sound musical.
    Bass reflex subs like the Alto Blacks and the EV ELX118p (also brilliant deep sounding sub) Go WAY lower and sound MUCH more musical.
    I was SO blown away by the Alto black 15.

      tablatom tablatom Thanks for sharing. I think we definitely need a 15" sub comparison. I think size will come into play with the 15" and because some 15" are close in size to an 18", in the end going with an 18" will always be preferred. Unless there is a 15" with a small foot print like the 12" subs. RCF has 2 12" subs, but i've never heard them so i wouldn't be able to comment on how they sound (but RCF makes amazing speakers so im sure theyll blow any other 12" away).
      I wonder which would be the best for Latin applications, there are too many to choose from (16+):
      RCF ART 905AS
      RCF SUB 705-AS II
      FBT Subline 15SA
      EV EKX-15SP
      EV ETX-15SP
      JBL PRX715XLF

      Alto Black 15S

      Yorkville LS720P

    Interesting video. Glad you're happy with the DXS12. I have a pair of them and they really are surprising, especially given the price point. As you've noticed, size of the cabinet often makes a BIG difference in low frequency reproduction, and is a big reason why the DXS12 produces more SPL than the ZXA1 sub. As you've mentionned, the size is convenient, but you do need at least a pair of the EVs for anything bigger than a small party. I've done 300 person weddings with my DXR8s over DXS12 subs, but that is pretty much the limit of what they can do comfortably. Al

    • @DJVetz510
      @DJVetz510  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Al. How do your DXR8 compare to DXR10 as dar as head room goes? I tried the 8's and to me they sound a bit harsh at high volumes, i was wondering if the 10's would do the same.

    • @alpoulin1
      @alpoulin1 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      DJVetz510 Both are almost identical in terms of sound quality (as they use identical compression drivers and power amps), but the DXR10 will get just a little louder AND provides a monitor angle, which the DXR8 doesn't. Both get surprisingly loud when hi-passed, which they should be when used in conjunction with subs. I've never actually heard the DXRs get harsh when used within their limits.

    • @DJVetz510
      @DJVetz510  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      alpoulin1 Maybe that was it, over their limit. When I tried them, it was at a club as DJ monitors (i'm guessing they must have gone through quite the abuse by many different DJ's). I was considering the 10's, but if the extra output isn't that significant, then ill probably just get the 8's.

    • @alpoulin1
      @alpoulin1 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      DJVetz510 Yeah, DJs have a bad habit of running things in the red - and when that happens to be the mixer signal, the speaker is basically amplifying a distorted signal, which can quickly damage speakers at high levels. I love my DXR8s - especially the size and output capability when hi passed. Terrific little boxes! I often take them to camp and plug in an mp3 player for some tunes outside. Very versatile mixer section...

    • @DJVetz510
      @DJVetz510  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I do alot of weddings myself, and I choose quality over loudness, however, there are times that even at small weddings these Dxs12 just don't cut it. Why? because aome of these small weddings are non-stop hiphop, edm, and spanish...and the closer to peak hour we get the louder people want it. If this is not the case with you, the EV's should be fine. I will soon buy a mini setup for -150 peeps for the previously explained application...either fbt or rcf for sure (nothing else for me). subs will be 15" and tops will either be 10" or 12". I have mad hookups on RCF too...

      Hi Joe, considering we are only talking about 12" subs, in my experience moving two EV's is a lot easier to move than one Yamaha, Alto, and Behringer. You can always stack two EV's to get a bit more db level and two Ev's would outperform one of the other 12" subs. If you really only want one 12" sub and price is not an barrier, I would buy FBT or RCF. They also what the mini linear array type system and its really compact. Finally, considering price, portability, technology, and sound I think I would look into the EV ELX200.

    What do you think of 2- ELX 15s and 1-DXS 12. I dont want to go the traditional route and get an 15inch or 18inch sub. Size and portability is key. Im just think a DXS 12 can add an little extra umff since I already 15 inch full range speakers. What you think?

    • @DJVetz510
      @DJVetz510  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      well... your highs will overpower your subs for sure, and you find yourself in an EQ battle trying to use two 15" tops with a 12" sub. These size subs are meant to be used with an 8" or 10" top; but I see what your saying, you just need that extra bass, so you could technically use it to reinforce your tops a bit. If I remember correctly, ELX 15" tops have a big smily face EQ dsp already, so those things have enough bass coming out of them already, or are those the ZLX? hmmm. Anyway, I would buy two dxs12s, put them on their sides and one on top of the other and always in the middle pointed towards the center of the room or dance floor, you'll get an increase in db's and perfectly placed for any room.

      +Gabriel Escobar UPDATE as of March 7th, 2016.
      Gabriel, I just picked up an ALTO TS15 Sub, and they're not much bigger than the DXS12. I have to say, although a cheap little sub, it puts out a nice bass on hiphop. Worth looking into. I would love to do a demo on them, but currently I have no other 15" sub or the dxs12 sub to compare it to. I bought one refurnished and bit scuffed up for $280 from Guitar Center (a steal).
      Side note:
      I heard the 15" turbo sound at Guitar Center, and they sound pretty dam good.
      Disclosure!
      I realize these subs I am mentioning and suggesting are not high/pro level stuff, but as a mobile DJ budget is always a concern. So, for those who want the best bang for their money, I suggest these subs. Otherwise, but FBT or RCF if money is not an issue; I highly recommend them. FBT & RCF has a nice ass setup for the mobile DJ who wants something for 200 people and below: easy hook up, light weight, protected in bags, and looks very professional. FBT ProMaxx & RCF Art series.

    The EV EKX 15sp surprised me how it sounded really good. The bass is full and deep but the yamaha dxs 12 is punchier imo. If the weigh is no issue i would get the yamaha dxs. just because the dxs compliment the yamaha dxr tops better. down the road i'm thinking of getting EV tops for a full EV set up.

    • @DJVetz510
      @DJVetz510  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      pasayan73 right on. Its important to mention your results in near field vs far field. At what distance do you start losing quality or the output you were seeking. With every single 12 inch sub ive testes, and some 15's they are only good for near field application, anywhere up to 15ft with no crowd and up to 10ft with crowd. This is an average of my findings.

  • @13bcoffee
    @13bcoffee ปีที่แล้ว +2

    A buddy of mine DJs with 4 of these, two stacked per side. He loves this setup and he has a bad back so no way he can lift the big 85 pound subs. If you look at the DXS12 sub the rated peak output is a whopping 134db compared to the ZXA1 at 126db. That's a 8db difference. You would need two to approach the output of the DXS12. But you also pay alot more for the DXS12.
    As mentioned one ZXA1 is not enough for gigs.
    I got two because the weight was too much for my 18s. I got rid of them and now I have the newer EV 12SP subs. They are small and lightweight and offer 3db more output. They are rated at 129db. They cost more but the increased performance is worth it. I would say that two of these stacked can match many 18 inch subs.
    One thing to be aware of is that the 12SP and the 18SP subs do have a crossover that can be set at 80,100 or 120hz. However only passes a straight thru signal on the output.

      I have a friend that has 4 12sp's too. Yes. They sound good together stacked. But i wanted to have something that would not take up too much real estate in my vehicle.
      Ive been using the RCF Evox8-Jmix, and let me tell you.... wow. For a small box linear system not only do they look stylish but sound incredible 👌.

    • @DJVetz510

      DJ-RALPHY Unfortunately, I can only share my experience as far as 1 EV ZXA1, and the "one" clipped way too quick at high volumes. But it all depends on how you will use it and the type of music you'll be playing. Hip-Hop or Latin music, for me, I don't think you'll get that desired thump most DJ's would want, even with two. If you're crowd is usually 200+, I'd go with something bigger (at least a 15"; RCF has a killer 15").

      DJVetz510 I have one EV ZXA1 Sub and it seems to clip very easy. I was told that it may be defective, so I sent it back to EV to be looked at and when I got it back it was the same. I'm not buying the specs of 700 watts of power. I see other videos and reviews where they rave about this sub. I believe that it is very weak. Do you have the same problem with yours?

    • @DJVetz510
      @DJVetz510  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      DJ-RALPHY That is the very reason why I returned it and decided to go with the Yamaha DXS12. However, you have to understand that there are different folks who use it for different applications. None the less to say, also like a different sound from speakers in general. For instance, a few I've come across prefer to have very little bass and focus on the clarity of the voice. For me, I want thump bass with clarity in voice. The type of music you might play will have different delivery and expectations coming out of the EV ZXA1, and only you can decide if it works for you or not. If I were to use this sub on a constant basis, it would go an further than from using them as filler speakers, stage/monitor-type speakers, and used in the following areas: bedroom, garage, apartment-parties, tailgates, elementary schools, any small application (anything where LOW volumes will be kept, but need bass reinforcement for fuller deeper sound). To answer your question, yes this sub is very weak for what I would use it for. This is not a "take-it-to-your-DJ-gig" sub IMO (maybe ceremonies).

    I push my ZXA-1 Sub hard, with 2x ZLX 12" tops... haven't had any problems yet... ran an all day set through it recently in the heat, clip LED blinking all day, no sweat.... granted, it is what it is, a 12" 700W sub.... nice and portable, nice for small-med. events up to about 100-125 people.... next step, a pair of EKX 15" subs.... Thanks for the video....

      Isaiah Furrow Isaiah Furrow wow. Clipping all day? That can't be good... but let us know how the ekx15sp sounds when you get them. I'd love to hear back from you on that regard.

    • @isaiahfurrow7414

      DJ Vetz I was told by EV folks that the LED comes on just prior to actual clipping that would cause audible distortion, and that as long as the indicator was just blinking on the loudest transients and not blinking "to the beat" of the music, that there should be no problems. Sound is still clean and clear, and it was a LOOOOONG set for a 3 day event. Over the whole weekend the system was pushed hard for at least 20+ hours , most of it in the heat of the day, and performed admirably... Just not enough for an outdoor venue, once I add a pair of 15" subs I think I'll be much more happy. I'll try to report back...

    • @DJVetz510
      @DJVetz510  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Isaiah Furrow what kind of music are you playing at these events? I would love to use this sub over any (in the 12" woofer league) but I'm afraid of blowing the woofer. I play a lot of hip-hop, RnB, and Latin music. I would love these for the back-yard party or the 50-75 peep capacity venue. But based on my experience and testing, they can't handle it. Do you have any videos of your gig-log?

    • @isaiahfurrow7414
      @isaiahfurrow7414 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No videos of the recent gig, just some pics I haven't posted yet. This was mostly Blues and some other appropriate Jazz, Rock, and big band tunes. I play all sorts of music though and have myself found it somewhat lacking for EDM, Hip-Hop, etc. It's good indoors and even outdoors it's OK, but definitely NOT chest thumping. I would want more subs for most anything over 100 people or so. I got it for smaller parties and venues, most indoor venues around me would be stuffed like a sardine can with 100 people in the building... :) It's soooo nice and portable though. Basically, an event that a lot of folks would do with just tops, such as a pair of 15" tops, I use 2x 12" tops and the small sub...

    • @DJVetz510
      @DJVetz510  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Isaiah Furrow plus i can imagine they'll keep your tops lasting longer, since you're taking the abuse of passing bass through the tops.

    I'm looking to replace my 90 lb subs, my back is shot after every gig. I am considering. Alto TS212S, EV ZXA1, Behringer B1200D, SAMSON D1200, Turbosound ipr12?, rcf as702 ii, all of these are under 50 lbs...any suggestions would be appreciated.

    • @DJVetz510
      @DJVetz510  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      My top of the list is ALWAYS RCF, but FBT came out with some sweet speakers (new Promax and Vertus) with an upgraded grill (simple & classy vs their signature aggressive look).
      However, if price is a factor, I would consider Turbosound with a BBE Sonic Maximizer. I had an Alto 12 and did not like it, I have an Alto 15 and do not like it, but kept for my home theatre system.

    • @djilyaz
      @djilyaz 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I like rcf too, but the 12" I mentioned is about $1K, There are newer alto subs out, they look cool 1250w, 625w rms, but nobody has used them, and I don't feel like being the tester. EV has always made decent stuff. I do weddings, parties or 10-300 people.

    • @DJVetz510
      @DJVetz510  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you don't need that much low end, just go with EV... carrying 4 of those is a lot easier due to their size and weight. But if you're like me, doing latin weddings, hip hop party's, and school dances, 18" subs is always the way to go.
      Unfortunately, there is no magic sub out there... we will sacrifice power over size and weight; but at least with RCF and FBT you get a nice tight punch out of that small box.

    • @djilyaz
      @djilyaz 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      maybe a jbl prx715xlf would be a good compromise, a 15, that's lightish, and probably knocks, 1500w

    • @DJVetz510
      @DJVetz510  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      JBL has that full low end, but not the punchy one. And it's 60+lbs. I would go with Electro-Voice EKX-15SP.

  • @maya_coqsalonga
    @maya_coqsalonga 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    No, this is not the product for you if you're doing clubs or hip hop/EDM. If you're doing parties or weddings in a small room this is a great sub. There's no law saying you can only use one at a time, you need at least two and you can always add more.

    • @DJVetz510
      @DJVetz510  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agree, but still doesn't hurt to test its limit to see what you can get away with.
      For example, i know a guy who has 4 evs and they sound ok for his roof top parties.

    • @maya_coqsalonga

      I'm looking to do more gigs. I've been doing smaller private parties, 75 to 100 people. I had a Fender passport with 1Zxa sub at a hall with over a hundred and it was fine playing classic R&B, disco, and current hits. I had plenty of volume but it was a benefit and too many people showed up so there was no room to dance. I plan on completing the EV ZXA setup with 2 subs and 2 tops. Then a larger setup for bigger rooms and gyms, school dances.

    Lovely Video & comparison DJVetz510. I have 2 RCF 905's & am using them along with my 2 EV ZXA5's since the past 6 years. The ZXA5's run real loud so I am looking at some more subs in the future ... probably another 2 905's.
    1) I'm looking at a REALLY LIGHT-WEIGHT sub for the moment for my smaller gigs to augment my low end. My choices are EV ZXA1-Sub & RCF 702. The RCF is 700 RMS whereas the EV I believe is only 400 RMS approx. So the RCF should be louder & more powerful as compared to the ZXA1-sub ?? Also, the RCF is a good 5 pounds lighter in weight than the ZXA1. I'm leaning towards the RCF here ... What are your views ??
    2) How would the Yamaha DXS12 compare against the RCF 702's ?? The Yamaha has a higher SPL (131) compared to the RCF (129). So would the Yamaha's be significantly louder? Weight-Wise the Yamaha's are a bummer ... exactly TWICE the weight of the RCF's. I once again may be leaning towards the RCF 702's here.
    3) Has anyone compared A/B'd the EV ZXA1 top against the Yamaha DXR8 ? I'm greatly interested in picking up one of these.

    • @DJVetz510
      @DJVetz510  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      RCF is on a whole other league, and higher level. I would definitely go with RCF. That said, I'd keep the 905's and just keep adding tje same sub to that. If weight is trully a factor here, FBT has a nice mini unit you should look into. Currently, I have 2 RCF 745A and 2 4pro8003. However, my ideal mini setup would be 2 Evox8, but im afraid it will not have enough low end that I would like to have. I would probably go with 2 Art732's and 2 705's. After AB'ing bunch of 12," and considering my use and application, 12" subs just dont cut it. Not sure if price is a deal breaker for you, but theres also the Evox12's.

    • @prakashwadhwani
      @prakashwadhwani 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much for your reply.
      I reside in Oman (Middle East) & FBT is not available here. :(
      Carrying a 905 requires 2 people which I'd like to avoid. Of course, I do use my 905's for larger events & utilize extra manpower to cart my equipment.
      I was also very seriously considering the EVOX 12 but yes ... price is a consideration. Also ... in the Evox if the sub goes, the top won't work too as it's powered by the sub leaving me in a very dicey situation at an event. Whereas if I'm using my 15" top along with a 702 ... if the 702 goes ... my top can still breathe.
      I like your suggestion for 2 Evox 8's ... was actually looking at that too but once again (as you mentioned) was afraid it would lack the low end.
      The 705's weigh double as compared to the 702's and hence i'm not inclined to them ... i may as well then purchase another pair of 905's.
      Having said that ... I'm looking at catering to a crowd of 50 to max 150. To keep my costs down I usually leave out the subs for smaller dj events (thus using only 1 helper). I instead opt to carry extra 15" cabs. I usually go with 4 15" cabs (having about 12 of them lying around). But I still miss that punch in the low end & as such am looking to augment it with AS LIGHT a sub as possible. ... which once again brings me to my query ...
      I'm looking at the RCF 702's. Have you or anyone here actually used the 702's ?? How does it stack up against the EV ZXA1sub?
      Won't the 702 put out as much or MORE power as compared to the Evox 12 ?? Evox 12 is 700 rms for both sub+top. 702 is 700rms for sub only.
      Would appreciate a deeper insight with regards to my needs & requirements. There is an RCF distributor here but he doesn't stock any speakers ... just imports them once we confirm/place our order. :(

    • @DJVetz510
      @DJVetz510  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      My two favorite 12" are FBT and RCF. These two company's are barely making their way out to the America's so not many people out here would have had a chance to AB them, but there are several out here that have used it (couldn't find a youtube video I had seen a while back though). Out of all the 12" speakers I would always pick RCF or FBT over any. FBT and RCF give you real RMS value, and don't lie about their SPL's! RCF sis your best option because it's lighter than EV ZXA1 Sub, Louder, and goes lower in freq. You can always buy 4 if you need more bass to place 2 on both sides of your rig. If you go with 2 of the EVOX 8, you can always add one 702 for more sound reinforcement.
      I also want to comment on the EV ZX15P. These speakers have a really nice low end, but they're for near field application ONLY! I can't emphasize that enough. There are DJ's out here that buy it because of the bass and price, and expect to fill a 400 people capacity venue....They're DELUSIONAL! But, if you're going to focus on the dance floor only, these speakers would be perfect to use with out a sub.... Just an option for you.
      RCF tops have nice clean punchy low end, but not deep bass... I want to make sure you're clear on that.
      FINAL VERDICT > BUY RCF.

      Thx DJVetz510 ... That's some sound advice ... Gracias :)
      Got some pricing on Behringer EUROLIVE B1200D 12" Active 500W Subwoofer. It's coming for 1/3rd the price of an RCF 702.
      I've never used Behringer but have heard mixed reports about it. I wonder if that 500W is RMS ?? I'm also worried it may clip/limit too early.
      Just that price-wise it's such a killer that I can take on the low-paying gigz & justify lugging the Behringers there. Only problem is that if it limits too early they are gonna be useless. No dealer here in Oman so can't even audition them :(
      Pls note I'm targeting a crowd of 50-150 max of which approx 50 (max 75) on the dance floor at any given point. Also ... I'll always be using 2 Behringers or 2 702's along with 2 15" top-cabs.
      What are your thoughts on this ??

    • @DJVetz510
      @DJVetz510  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      See when you start thinking about lower end products, makes me start wondering why you even looked into RCF in the first place. There are different products for different applications, and if your only wanting to provide sound for a dance floor and for 20-50 people dancing, then technically a 10" monitor will do the job. For me, its about sounding good, relying on dependable products, and looking great doing it. That's why I go with RCF stuff. I dont want to worry about limiting lights, or reliability, and I know ill have a better chance with higher end products than with lower end stuff. Not to say you cannot reach the limiter on RCF stuff, but I know their stuff is more reliable because i've used it. In the end you get what you pay for. If you're worried about reaching your limit and limiter light going off, youre going with the wrong size speaker from the beginning. You should really be looking into a 15", but because of the weight, price, and size, a 12" is more convenient and, IMO, RCF or FBT takes the cake.

    I own 10 of the ev zxa1. I add 1 per hundred you definitely need atleast 2. 4 ev subs with 2 12" turbo iq tops can take care of 400ppl gatherings. What he fails to mention is cost. There is a 300 dollar difference... the Ev's take a ton of punishment and never miss a beat you can steady redline them and they just keep playing. I was never a fan of ev until the zxa-1. A lot of dj's have purchased the zxa-1's after coming to one of my events. I sold all my garbage jbl stuff after buying the turbo and ev set up.

      Dam, that's crazy, 10x EV ZXA1? Thats almost $6k, why not just buy some good 15" by RCF or FBT? Do you have several other partner djs renting your stuff? Now 4x EV ZXA1 makes more sense to me, the portability, weight, and size makes sense. I'm curios to see or hear your system. Do you have any vids? Im thinking of adding two EV ZXA1 to my RCF Evox jmix8 to give it more low end.

    Update: March 7th, 2016.
    Look into the Alto TS15 Subs. I just bought one for $280+tax @ Guitar Center, and let me tell you... for the size, cost, weight, and output, it is most definitely the best bang for your buck.
    Note:
    I will make a demo video soon once I get a small venue to take them to. Im putting together a small DJ micro system using "low-end" speakers to demonstrate that you can EQ almost any speaker to sound good, of course DBs and volume output will be the biggest things at risk here, but some just don't want it loud...quality over loudness. If you want both, read disclosure above.

      What's your budget and application needs? I will say this, for anything under $1,200/cab I would either go with QSC KW181 (for mobility) or the new Yamaha dxs18 (for those deep freq's). However, I always check with RCF and FBT first to see if any prices have dropped on their 18" subs. Now, if your budget can go up to $1,500/cab I would first look into RCF & FBT (all around best value, quality, boom, just love them) first, and then into Yorkville (deep, boomy, but heavy) & JBL VRX (quality, and mobility workhorse).

      my application its DJ... so i need good subs with a lot of power... but i'm on a tight budget... i want some PK subwoofers but i can't hehe... now for tops i have ZLX15P for electrovoice... very nice speakers... good sound and nice tone. The only con its the low power.. in other works, they clip and limit very fast... but using a crossover to only mid-highs its a very good... now i want a nice sub for complement my ZLXs...

    • @DJVetz510

      Well, there's more to it than just a DJ application criteria. For instance are you more interested in near field or farfield, are you looking for loudness or quality, are you looking for mobility or something with more substance, etc, etc, etc...

    18's only for me, I love the headroom and low rider thump you get out of them. If I am doing a smaller gig I just use my 12 inch tops for the midbass. I wouldn't touch a 12 inch sub personally but some people like how light and small they are even though they lack in power compared to an 18.

    • @DJVetz510
      @DJVetz510  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Daniel, thanks for the comment. I don't think anyone in their right mind would dare compare a 12" sub to an 18" sub. I will argue, however, that adding a small sub like this to a pair of 12"/10"/8" self-powered speakers will give you an extra low end you cannot possibly get from any full range speakers I just mentioned above (plus, I'm sure this will help extend the life of your speakers since you're not running them as hard as you would with out a sub). I will agree with you on one point, the mid-bass from some 12" tops will suffice for some party's, and is more convenient to only carry two tops without the hassle of dealing with an extra speaker--in this case, a small sub (no matter how light it is); but if you want that extra thump, I highly recommend any of the two in the vid (dsr over the zxa1sub for me).

    • @bumlover1167
      @bumlover1167 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I agree completely. I just personally prefer the sound of an 18. I like the ZXA1 subs as they do produce a decent fill for your sound system. If I were to use them I would buy 2 just for the extra thump. I would not want to push one ZXA1 sub to the limit all night. Great video by the way bro.

      Daniel Graves Th EV's are esthetically more pleasing to watch then the Yamy's, IMO. Price wise, If you're going to buy two EV's, just buy two DSR's. Weight wise, EV is the winner. Thanks for the comments.

      the thing with the people who buy these 12" and 15" subs is that they buy equipment based on their vehicle... which shouldn't be the way to do it. it would be like designing a house around a piece of furniture that doesn't belong to you.
      i'd just rather buy the best equipment/subs and rent a trailer for $20 from uhaul..
      but i've heard 2 15" alto subs and they do knock hard. still, 15's are not my thing..

      Unfortunately, no. I really wish i had more time to do document and post logs. I will say this, the many times I've used both of these subs I can tell you that they're great for smaller parties or parties where you can keep the decibels lower than 120db. That said, if you're going to buy any of these or wanting to go with the 12" sub woofer, I would just buy the Turbosound IP2000 or the New EV Evolve 50, New EV Elx200, or RCF Evox 8.

      +Bed Picnic Remember, pro recording gear was not used at all. This was a Canon Point & shoot camera. But I will say, the EV does have a cleaner tighter bass. But the yamaha is louder with a little less cleaner sound, and well worth the small sacrifice.

    Really? What a joke. Your music was full of distortion and made both subs sound like they were clipping.Also, neither sub would really be able to do the job for outdoor or large venue gigs. You would need multiples and they would need to be stacked together and/or corner loaded.Furthermore, neither sub is made to be used in the situation you tested them in.Outside/large venue subs require that you use larger subs to get any kind of real output and bass clarity.

      Mr. Don R. This review was meant to assist folks on ultimately making a decision on which sub to buy, and by no means was this intended to be a review of using 12" subs for large outdoor venues. It's up to the owner's of any of these two subs to use it wherever and however they want, and if they want to use it outdoors that's totally up to them. I don't know what your background is but any of these subs would do a nice a job for an outdoor small crowd where a wedding dj would be, as long as it's understood that these by no means will replace an actual outdoor large venue setup. If you're looking for large outdoor venue, i suggest looking at other videos that best fit that criteria. However, thank you for your comment, and if not apparent enough already, I think it is important that folks understand that these subs, by no means, are meat for large outdoor venues.

      Thank you for your feed back, I don't have high end audio recording microphone for this application. While I hoped to help many decide between the two subs, I never intended to be able to help everyone. At the end of the day, you still have to make a decision yourself. Maybe you could buy both subs and make a better video, we all would appreciate the effort and your expertise. Let us know when its up and running.
