    I have the DXR10's. Astounding "hi-fi" even at stupendous sound pressure levels for a "PA" speaker. The articulation and detail is something that is normally only found in audiophile quality home speakers. I am a guitar player and although part of my "sound" is a hard driving saturated sizzle-milk, the other half is ring-like-a-bell acoustic bo-jangles... which is impossible to render in typical PA or guitar amp rigs.

    Looks like a great system for small scale events. I've heard the DXR series isn't 100% hi-fi quality but has plenty of headroom to keep going louder. There's a store nearby that stocks them, I'd like to demo them sometime and see how they compare to my EV's.

    Brian, I have seen Harbinger HA300 - it's basically a mini system. Any possibility you can check that out and give your opinion. I have tested it out at Guitar Center's sound room and it is very impressive. I'm considering purchasing 2 of them. I have Crown XTi's and EV speakers as my main system, but I'm looking for a small system and I think this is it.

    Note: Cannot use as a floor wedge. Great little top speaker but, although it has DSP settings for monitor use, it is NOT usable as a floor monitor because it has no wedge/angle - unlike the 10's 12's and 15's.

    I recently got to take home the DXR10, K10 and EV ETX-10P for about 6 weeks. This is my take..
    It really depends on what you need, what your main use will be for these speakers. For DJ use, I'd definitely look at 12s, but if you're cutting the lows out I don't see why 10s wouldn't be just as good. I was stuck with 10" due to portability issues traveling with a band.
    For prerecorded music, the DXR10 needed the most EQ. 1k had to be cut a good bit, and 16k boosted. The EV, in comparison, needed minimal to no EQ, and if you needed it, the dsp on the back has tons of EQ options, really an incredible speaker. The K10 needed less EQ than the DXR10 to sound right.
    The EV really is an incredible speaker, but at nearly twice the price of the DXR10. I think if you're DJing events every month, they're well worth the investment. Music sounds superb through them, with next to no adjustments. The best speaker is always the flattest out of the box, and EV brings it with their speaker. Tons of power, clarity, fullness, punch, dynamic frequency range. All good things. If it's a few times a year, the DXRs will do great. With some EQ they really hold their own.
    Flat or not isn't a huge issue if you're only using these for live sound/DJ, as opposed to keyboard monitor/amp for shows with a band or solo piano work. For DJ'ing, I preferred the DXR10 over the K10. With both of them EQ'd, the DXR sounded a little better, slightly fuller.. and surprisingly more comparable to the EV. The DXR10 really held it's own in my extensive A/B with the EV. The K10 could get a little harsh in the 2.5k and some high mids (obviously at peak sound levels that you may not even run). I'd go with DXR over K series for DJ purposes.
    as far as volume goes, they all get crazy loud and hold up great. Clarity and volume isn't a comparable issue if you're using the 100hz cutoffs, or the 120hz option of the DXR. It's also ridiculous when people take bass into account with these tops. If you need bass, get a sub.. not a 10", or even 12" woofer that's going to be on a tripod further limiting whatever bass you feel. Bass coming out of these tops isn't going to project in the air, nor will it carry through the floor via tripod poles. The only scenario where I'd even think about bass with tops, is if you have them on the floor in your house as a stereo or something. In that event- the K series wins out with their "deep" technology. Lows extend much lower then DXR and even lower than the EV. But no one really uses these for that anyway..
    For keyboard amp/monitor applications, I was fortunate to have 3 shows in the time I had these speakers, so I was able to try each of them.
    The DXR fell short to K series and EV. It lacked the projection of high-mids/highs, and can't be EQ'd because the soundboard gets the line out straight from the speaker, which gets both L/R from my keyboards (so i can't go left to amp and right into D/I box.. then both mains and my speaker would be getting half of my sound.)
    It was actually a tough call between the K10 and ETX-10P for keys. K10 had a tiny bit better mids, and the EV was very pristine and polished. I liked the 90 degree conical dispersion of the K10, and that it's over 10 pounds lighter and a few inches smaller than the EV. It's easier to lug around, takes up less space in the car, and I think cuts through the mix a little better than the EV. The EV is great for DJing, as well as DXR10, but I liked the K10 better as my amp.
    The K10 has stronger high-mids/highs and doesn't have the 1k boost of the DXR10; it requires less EQing to sound right to my ears. I know the crowd mostly hears the sound coming from the mains, but some venues are smaller and stage volume and sound quality is important. Even at larger events, people closer to the stage are getting blasted with drums and guitar amps- you want your keys to be where they need to be in the mix, both tonally and volume wise.
    SO
    Pro DJ- invest in pro gear- Yamaha DSR or EV ETX series.
    Hobby DJ- DXR series. With some EQ, they really do sound great.
    Keyboard amp.. it's your call if you want to lug around the bulkier and heavier (birch) EV, or much more manageable K10. I thought the K10 sounded more than good enough to choose it over the EV.
    I went with the K10 because I'm not DJ'ing even 4 events/year.. and it's not like the K10 sounded bad for prerecorded music, the other 2 just sounded a tiny bit better with the proper EQ. It's easier to manage bringing to shows and I think makes a really stellar keyboard amp. I even had 2 strangers come up to me and compliment me on the sound.
    Let your ears be the judge.

    • @mootsym
      @mootsym 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Matthew Phillips maybe. It's a matter of opinion I think. wow I wrote a lot up there before lol. I think the K10s cut through the mix better, whether for monitor or main amp use. The DXR10 needed more EQ to sound right to my ears.. although I do enjoy the slightly warmer tone. The Ks can be hard on the ears in the high-mids, and lack musical warmth, even though they have a lot of clarity. Idk.. could go either way really. I don't regret my choice, because each of the speakers had their own drawbacks that would make me want the other.. so it's hard to feel bad about 2nd thoughts when I'd feel the same way no matter which I chose lol.
      I don't absolutely love the K10, but it made sense for my needs.. and it really was kind of a tossup between it and the DXR10. I frequently use the "deep" mode on the K10 when listening to music in my room, giving it low end extension that the DXR couldn't touch. So that's a nice option to have, but I miss the Yamaha's smoothness and warmth.. but they lacked in some other areas. Originally I thought I'd buy another and have a stereo setup in my room, or use as a home theater for my house someday, but I don't think I love the K10 enough and will probably just have it as my amp/monitor and invest in some audiophile stuff someday for home. It's hard to say if I would feel different with the DXR10.
      The ETX10 was the best speaker, sounded awesome with music, but it just wasn't the sensible choice for lugging around to and from practice every week and to gigs 1-2x a month.

      @@mootsym in 2019 I still hear similar feedback. I've heard the K10 was one of the best sounding 10" tops for the price. Having personally used K12s, ELX112 and DXR12s I have to rank them 1st- DXR12, 2nd K12, 3rd ELX112. ELX (for my personal experience) really sounded as good as, and even sometimes better than the K12 - but I had two of them fail me over a couple years. So reliability makes them 3rd. I am very happy with my DXR12s as a replacement to both K12 and ELX112. Not night and day better - but for real, noticeably better.
      I also have to agree based on research that the DSR112 is an amazing choice. I had the DSr115 and I regretted selling it the second I waved goodbye...But I rarely used them. I will likely be buying the DSR112s to run big rig duty over my KW181s. DXR12s for small shows on their own, and medium rig will have a DXS12mk2 with DXR8s. I have KW153s for XXL rig over KW181 but I have heard the DSR112 over 181 can deliver equal output for DJ use.

      Have you used the K12.2's yet? I brought home a 10.2 and 12.2 to compare with my K10. I had to work to make the 12.2 peak.. really remarkable. The new K series holds up so much better at louder volumes, it's really an incredible improvement.

    • @mootsym
      @mootsym 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Fizyxx Maybe you do. I liked the Live Bright setting. It doesn't have "deep" mode like the previous models, but for the life of me.. if you're at a venue where you need 12s over 10s.. you probably also need subs to get that low end extension and fill the room. You're not going to get adequate bass out of deep mode 12" speakers lol. Anyway, yea the Live Bright setting was really good. .probably perfect with subs. And you can just push them and they stay clear even at high volumes, where the previous K series would get harsh. These things were impressive. And if you cut the lows, even more room for the speaker to breathe and give you clarity.

    • @JuzzyQld
      @JuzzyQld 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +wynnful they are quoting irrelevant power ratings. Check the manufacturers specs for RMS or continuous power ratings. they reveal all.
      peak could mean what a speaker can handle for 1 sec or 40 minutes, unless they specify the time of peak handling, then you can assume its a very small amount of time.
      Yamaha as well as a lot of other companies are quite dishonest when it comes to advertising their power ratings

    Its not 1100 watts you deceivers!
    Peak values are worthless figures
    Its RMS values are as follows:
    LF-600w
    HF-100w
    For a total of 700w RMS
    the sub is rated at 600w RMS

    • @misyogi
      @misyogi 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +JuzzyQld This 1100 W peak power is advertisement only. As JuzzyQld wrote the real RMS power of amplifier is LF-600W and HF-100W, but if you check Service Manual for these spaeker series it is clear, that output power is limited to run speakers safety. For example 12" woofer is rated 250 W, 15" woofer is 300 W rated. Probably in continuous operation an output power is limited to these values, but for short time (which is usable for music) it can produce more power. Woofer amplifier is BTL type supplied from 2x55V. There is no detail in specification, but I think that there is a multiband limiter which helps to produce maximum SPL without burning speaker's coil. DSP simply cuts low band if you run it at >limit power< volumes. I have checked it. But it gives you more headroom if you compare it to a classical pasive speaker and a separate amplifier. In this case you never know how far you can increase volume, so you need huge reserve in speakers to be sure that you do not blown them. This not occure if you have integrated DSP + amplifier with speaker in one case. YAMAHA have to checked it if they give you 7 years of warranty...
