      i have it since launch and I'm still just in love. 3 years ago i switched from Full Frame to Fuji. My favorite lens (even tho it's a huge and heavy beast) was the Sigma 135mm 1.8 Art. With the Viltrox it found it's match. I would even go as far and say, that the viltrox yields me better results on my XH2 compared to the A7 III + Sigma i had before, and THAT is quite a feat in my book...

    I got one myself recently, didn't expect to ever be able to add a lens this fast at this focal length to my kit but seeing the results people share from it made me very curious to try it. It's so much fun being able to shoot at these crazy wide apertures, and get incredible image qualtiy across the board. The build quality is incredible. If Fuji had released this lens for a thousand dollars, it would still be getting excellent reviews, but the price they're selling it at puts it within reach of people like me who would normally be only looking at the cheaper, f/1.8 offerings. I find the AF is completely adequate too, not in the same league as the best LM designs with the mass of glass it's moving, but totally usable, on par speedwise wise my old 35 f/1.4 which I still adore, and near silent. The aperture ring design is excellent too, very positive feeling clicks with an obvious extra pull required to enter A mode, better than many Fuji lenses and a welcome change from the clickless rings Viltrox has used before, which has put me off their other lenses.
    It'll be REALLY interesting to see if Viltrox can bring out more lenses in this "PRO" series of this overall quality, if they do then I expect I'll end up with more! Their existing primes are already extremely compelling on value, but this level of optical and build quality really does put them right in line with Fuji's best in outright performance too.

    • @PeteCocoPhoto
      @PeteCocoPhoto  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed! I have been shooting with the 13mm for the past few weeks and it's also very impressive. I just reviewed it if you are interested: th-cam.com/video/1nvGT_sIATA/w-d-xo.html
      The 75 is just at another level.

    I received one of these recently. The first time out with it was at a community event. When I posted the images to FB, they caught the attention of a photographer who asked if I minded sharing which lens I was using. (I hadn't posted any info about gear, just the photos). He also commented how sharp the images were and how good the bokeh looked.
    The second time out with it was an outdoor family portrait shoot (they'd also seen the event photos and reached out). I did have to keep an eye out for flare with them backlit and had to shift a bit at times to either eliminate it or get it looking more pleasing.
    Well done Viltrox!

    • @NeilMcAliece
      @NeilMcAliece ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@martinohesse I'm not sure sorry. I haven't used the Viltrox 56mm.
      Personally for the way I use fast primes, I'd find it hard to replace a 56mm with a 75mm. I'm sometimes using them in indoor event spaces where they'd prefer no flash and I couldn't always get enough room to use the 75.
      For the shorter focal lengths I'm using the Sigma 16mm & 56mm f1.4. I'm also using the Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 and I'm satisfied with all of those.

    Great review! Love the shot at 4:45! Currently use the Viltrox 85mm f/1.8 mark II. It’s good, but that 1.2 is tempting. Aka, GAS is lurking around the corner😀. One negative thing is the minimum focus distance. At 88cm it is much longer than Fuji’s 90mm MFD of 60 cm.

  • @MarcioK
    @MarcioK ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Good review. I got mine from the initial 50 units pre-order directly from Viltrox - and yes, the sharpness, and specially the minimal chromatic abberation, even wide open (I love to shoot concerts too, and with stage lighting it could be an issue).
    Have updated to the 2nd 1.0.1 firmware beta (the 1st one was causing lockings in some cameras) and to the 1.0.2; each one brought noticeable improvements in AF performance. But the new AF algorithms in the X-T5 helps a lot - in my X-S10, shooting people in movement caused some misses (to be honest, my 35mm f/2, one of the fastest Fuji lenses for AF, struggled a bit too). AF transitions from close to distance became much more "linear" with the new firmwares, but there is some hesitancy if the two subjects are very far from each other - a thing that matters most in video.
    But for the most intended purpose, portraits, it is a stellar lens.
    One thing that I reported to Viltrox, that for me was a strange behaviour in the X-S10 (which don't have a focus switch) - when you have the camera set for AF+MF in the menus (the mode that you press half shutter to acquire focus, hold the half-pressed shutter, and then manually fine adjust the focus), the AF/MF switch works kind of strange (for me): in AF position, it works in AF mode only; in the MF position, it works as AF+MF - no "pure" manual focus is available. For me, in the AF position it have to works as AF+MF, and in MF position, as MF only. A minor quirk.

    • @PeteCocoPhoto
      @PeteCocoPhoto  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks dude, and thank you for the insights into the lens. Interesting that it doesn't let you use it in MF only on the X-S10 but good to know. Hopefully they get your feedback and correct it in an update.

      @PeteCocoPhoto  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Honestly both are very good, I find them to be pretty on par optically. For me it would depend more on focal length and focusing. The Viltrox has a fast, quiet, AF, and the 56mm AF is a bit loud and clunky, not as good. The other thing to consider is which focal length makes more sense for you. I like 56mm in general more than 75mm if my subjects are fairly close or I don't have a ton of room to shoot.

      I haven’t tried the 90 personally but I can tell you that the Viltrox is a huge bargain for what you’re getting and the portrait range is awesome.

    Another downside of the lens is the MFD of only 88cm and magnification of only 0.1.

      @PeteCocoPhoto  ปีที่แล้ว

      Perhaps, but as it's marketed to portrait photographers I am not sure how important that is. I know that for me it's a non issue.

    Is this way too big for street photography?

    • @PeteCocoPhoto
      @PeteCocoPhoto  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah it's probably not ideal for street photography. It's not massive but definitely not compact or discreet.

      @@PeteCocoPhoto What would you recommend for a street photo lens that is somewhat compact but also gets some distance and compression? I was thinking Sigma 18-50 I saw you had a positive review on it but I’m also considering viltrox 56.

      @@daniel_b_living6133 Sigma 18-50 is much more compact. And it would be great to have the zoom range too.

      @@PeteCocoPhoto Random follow up. I know you have used several third party lenses from Fuji. Did you find they resolve well on the 40 MP sensor? I know Fuji has a limited number of lenses that get “maximum benefit” on 40 MP but not sure if third party lenses take full advantage of it. Any tests you’ve done thus far?

    hey my friend. Could you advise me?
    I have money only for one portrait lense for now.
    I between viltrox 75mm 1.2 or fuji 33mm 1.4.
    Wich one you think would be a best for now?
    greetings from brazil.

      @PeteCocoPhoto  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The advantage of the 33mm is you can get wider shots and portraits. The 75 is really only for close portraits. Both are great but the 33 gives you more flexibility
