Here are all my ways I can think of to help you keep your home cool without AC. 1. Replace dark coloured roofs with white roofs to get high sunlight reflectivity to keep much cooler automatically. 2. Use insulated curtains, but make sure those insulated curtain colour is pure white to get a high albedo for the sunlight to be reflected to keep cooler. 3. Use a fan to air circulate some basement cooler air upstairs and place a fan from your window outside during night time to in bring that cooler and fresher air. 4. Use plants to regulate humidity and to provide that slight cooling effect through their leaves. 5. Try freezing a wet towel and then have it hanging and get a stronger fan and let it blow on it and also if your in a dry climate, use evaporate coolers to cool through water evaporation. 6. Wear pure white, to reflect heat off of you and have it be slightly wet to keep cool. 7. Have cold drinks 8. Reduce your using your electricity on things that releases the most heat out of them. 9. Plant trees around your house and if possible try making it so some of the trees can be providing shade on your house roof to keep temperatures from rising on sunny days. 10. Take cool shower. 11. Paint your walls white if possible to reflect some extra heat. 12. Paint certain entrances like the outside of your garage and doors white or even a lighter color to reflect the heat to reduce urban heat island effect to keep heat from entering your home. Bonus: Even have your driveway painted a lighter colour over a darker colour to reflect more sunlight and reduce the urban heat island effect from your outside surrounding area so your home can stay a little extra slightly cooler.
For real. I'm a major nerd, studied some meteorology and climatology in college (not my major) but I genuinely have never found anyone who gives the forecast as it is, and explains what it means. Every other forecaster is either too technical to be understood, or too simplified to be accurate.
Thanks for this info, you've become my #1 source for severe weather predictions. 20 years ago when a hurricane came across the Florida panhandle the storm was downgraded to tropical until it hit the mountains. Then those of us up in the mountains had 80 + mph winds knocking down BIG healthy trees that took nearly a week before electricity was restored. My own drive way was blocked until the power company cut up downed trees too big for my 30" saw. Now my electric lines are underground by Duke Energy. I feel empathy for those in tornado alley and where hurricanes often hit. None of us are immune from horrible storms turning our lives upside down. Thanks again Ryan.

Ryan, thanks for these great videos. When the tropics start popping, I look for what you have to say. That GFS model looks suspiciously like the path Elena took in 1985. Living in Biloxi, we watched it coming toward us, then relaxed when it headed toward Florida, only to have to scramble when it made a loop and headed back our way. So that GFS model is definitely not impossible. As we along the Gulf Coast say, I wouldn't want to wish a hurricane on anybody, but I don't want it here!
