    This is the long awaited LED exposure unit video in which we make 2 different screen exposures using the new Ranar LED XPO2331 vacuum top exposure unit. LED exposure units are the latest technology in screen making for screen printing textiles and other substrates. These units may be multiple bulb light sources technically but the little LED bulbs are focused and they emit UV light at about 400 nanometers wavelength. This is exactly what the emulsion wants to see and it will cure the emulsion very well from the substrate side to the inkwell side. The quality of light is such that it cures all emulsion types with ease. It should eliminate or drastically reduce emulsion scum and filming of underexposed emulsion on the inkwell side. Check out this video and follow along as I expose 2 screens with you and take close up looks at the stencils we create. If you’re looking into getting a point source exposure unit or even an industrial black lamp unit you should seriously take a look at the new LED exposure unit made by Ranar and sold through Catspit Productions.

      Thank you, glad you enjoyed. No, sorry. I do not make the equipment. I sell it. And we couldn't very well provide specs for equipment making. That would be counter productive as a manufacturer. Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/

    Don't you think a single source of UV light is better? There are in the UVA market of Led reflectors that reveal perfectly better than several LEDs so close to the matrix, sending lights in all diagonal directions harming the reticles.

      Considering we are doing printing on tee shirts, it's unnecessary. You can only achieve so much detail on a textured, knitted garment in my humble opinion. While a point source may be best for certain graphic industrial screen printing applications, it's not necessary for high detail on a tee shirt. Also remember these little LED lights are focused at 90 degrees straight up. There's definitely spreading and such but for most tee shirt art it should be more than enough to do the job. I have done 55 LPI with it and it came out great. The quality of the LED light in the 400 nano meter UV wavelength, exposes the emulsion thoroughly from bottom to top resulting in very short exposure times. Like 15 seconds or less. And there's absolutely no heat involved. It's been tested at 85 LPI by a customer of mine as well. So I know it's very capable. Thanks for watching! @@CatspitProductions However, at a distance of 10cm from the glass, it will cause a big DIFFRACTION damaging reticles and a perfect emulsion cutout. I watched several revelations and clearly noticed the deficiency in the quality of fine details. For those who want to reproduce a photo using Chromia, need fidelity of revealed and quality points !!!

    • @CatspitProductions
      @CatspitProductions  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@irascher We're just printing tee shirts. Not circuit boards or membrane switches. The detail the LED can achieve is very high, trust me. And for tee shirts where we are printing on a flexible, knitted, textured surface with highs and lows, this is more than adequate.

    Are they easy to change LED S and glass when needed Johnathan?

    • @CatspitProductions
      @CatspitProductions  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Very cool. The glass is very easy to change if you break or scratch it. The LED's have over 45K hours of usage time. I doubt you would ever need to replace them. But yes, they could be replaced pretty easily. Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/

    Any Idea how well this works with Murakami Photocure Pro? I'm not sure if you've worked with it, but it is my preferred emulsion for waterbed flat stock printing. I know there seems to be an issue with LED units not fully curing Duel Cure emulsions due to the LED's having a very specific spectrum. So I'm trying to find a unit that will work with well wit that emulsion. I struck out with the Workhorse LED unit, and this is my second choice. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it. Great video (as always!).

    • @CatspitProductions
      @CatspitProductions  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Bradwick McGinty Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video. I do not use Murakami products. I use Saati emulsions. So I would not have specific information on that. But emulsions are reactive to UV light. The Ranar unit is at about 400 nano meters wavelength and I have not heard about any problems with dual cure emulsions. They were both tested on this unit. In my opinion the Saati emulsion is a much better product. I solve many peoples other emulsion problems with the Saati products every week. But I do know this LED is very capable at known 85LPI halftone exposures with perfect results. Feel free to contact me if I might be of further assistance. Thanks for watching. What exposure time would you recommend if I am using the saati textile phu on a 305 mesh screen with an exposure unit with 8 Bulbs of uv light at 120 watts of lights?

    • @CatspitProductions
      @CatspitProductions  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +popslittleking05 Well I am not a scientist but if you have industrial black lamp UV bulbs then Textil PHU should expose in about a minute or less depending on how good your film positive is and how old the emulsion is. Your artwork is also a factor. Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/

    • @CatspitProductions
      @CatspitProductions  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Alex HS It's a special high UV output LED. These are not ordinary LED's you use to light your house. These would damage your eyes from the purple looking UV light.

    You got a lot of sawtooth / stairstepping with that first screen, most noticeable in the closeup at 14:29.

    • @CatspitProductions
      @CatspitProductions  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +MaximRecoil That's because it's on a 125 mesh. But it really does not matter. You will never see that in the print. Not on a 110 or 125 mesh. Nope. It will print smooth and clear with clean lines. It's the nature of the beast. Glad I can help out through my videos. Now if we saw that on a 160 or a 200 mesh then we would have something to worry about. Thanks for watching. Screen Printing Equipment & Supplies - catspitscreenprintsupply.com/

      "Now if we saw that on a 160 or a 200 mesh then we would have something to worry about."
      That's my experience as well, though I'm not sure why it works like that. I get minor sawtooth edges on my 110 mesh screens, but they don't show up in the screen print. However, those same minor sawtooth edges on a 156 mesh screen do show up in the screen print. Why does that happen? My theory is that the extra ink flow of the 110 mesh screen results in a bit of ink bleed at the edges, which makes it appear smooth despite the minor sawtooth in the stencil.

    • @CatspitProductions
      @CatspitProductions  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +MaximRecoil Yes, the ink always bleeds outside the stencil edges slightly. But you shouldn't be getting saw toothing on a 160 mesh. Try using a better emulsion with a higher solid content.

      I use Ulano QTX. What would work better? Here's a picture of the sawtooth edges I get in the print from a 156 mesh:
      i.imgur.com/bOlKZer.jpg
      You can see it especially along the bottom edge of that letter "B". That never happens to me with 110 mesh screens.

    Good video, I have the same LED unit but the emulsion I am using for printing stickers take over a minute to cure correctly.
    I was wondering if 10 seconds was possible lol. I'm making a few screens this week I may post a video. Cheers :)

      +Hooked Graphics Hey did you get that LED from that Catspit guy? LOL ;) It's probably the emulsion you are using. Try a faster emulsion like my Textile PC Blue and it would be a shorter exposure time.

      +CatspitProductions I have that emulsion for the water based just have not used it yet. I was printing in Solvents so apparently its a ton longer to expose the emulsion for the solvent printing but I didn't have any gauge to go by since there isn't much out on LED. I think I got it dialed in using a exposure test strip on a couple lol. I got mine from Ranar a few months ago, its just I have been doing a ton of stickers lol

    • @CatspitProductions
      @CatspitProductions  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Hooked Graphics Yes, dual cure emulsions are slower than that of photopolymers. There is actually a decent list of emulsions and exposure times in the rear of your LED manual. You should have bought it from that Catspit guy ;)

    • @dschoppers
      @dschoppers 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +CatspitProductions yeah, no manual :( I actually remember while shooting the I boxing video thinking why isn't there a manual. And it was broke so I had to wait for parts. It's all good though

      +Hooked Graphics If you email me through my website contact us form I can send you the manual in PDF format. Ranar often forgets them so I email them with order confirmations.
