      Get hot and spicy cayenne pepper,and place it in an empty salt shaker.
      Sprinkle it on all your plants, after you water them. It will not hurt your plants. BUT ALL THE CRITTERS WILL STAY AWAY. Cheap and effective.

      There also got to be some plants that rabbits do not appreciate. Try planting lots of green onions, leeks, onions, garlic, and marigolds.
      Just plant the root portions of green onions from the store, and the root portions of leeks. Everywhere.....

    And as far as green onions go, they can be harvested fairly fast.

  • @terriblekite

    It would be really helpful to know when to plant these crops, like how late can you plant potatoes, cabbage, etc? Also do lettuces need to be covered to protect from frost?

    • @agood1
      @agood1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      i suppose I was expecting this too in this video. I am going to look up the harvest time of these and count back to find good planting dates for my zone.
      perhaps he did not say when, because it will vary by zone. for example if something takes 45 days to harvest and ripens just before frost, youd need to know when your weather is cool enough to plant, while being warm and sunny enough to grow, and then giving time to get down in tempt enough to ripen/harvest.
      Also if they are simply cold hardy, they could be planted periodically in coolor months for regular harvest. talking outloud lol.

I don’t want to loose this “ball that I have rolling”. Do you think a greenhouse can be use as a “ fridge” if I keep the temperature right above freezing and adding grow lights? I garden in containers. Does anyone in this community has tried something like this? 🙏🏻❤️

    Also brussel sprouts I would think. Planted green beans, carrots, & beets Sept 10. So far so good but somethings chewing on the beans. They're healthy so should be ok. I live in Southern Michigan and want to plant spinach. Had to buy cilantro for my salsa, never knew it was a fall crop! Had to buy dill for my pickles too, didn't get around to planting any VERY unfortunately. Have been cutting the sunflowers as they mature (different kinds), and there's always too many cucumbers! Got 4 beautiful pumpkins but the tomatoes were small. The cabbage & brussels got ate up. Will put panty hose on the next crop to keep worms off. Gooseneck gourds are just now filling out. The garden looks so sad now -- but just think, in 5 more months can start seeds!

    My dad was allergic to raw tomatoes so we had to slightly fry his tomatoes for a tomato sandwich, my mom was allergic to raw bananas and she did fine with them made into bread or something that cooked them.

    Are you also allergic to celery? My mother-in-law is allergic to raw carrots just like you and it turns out the same compound is in celery.
    That mexican cole slaw recipe sounds really interesting. I'll try it at some point :)

    I’m not a huge radish fan but I just planted some because the girl on Roots &refuge says she put olive oil salt and pepper on them and then broils them in the oven...., and I never thought of cooking them, but she said it’s really good! I want to try that and thought you might like it too. (My dad said he tried boiling them and it was ehhhh not so good lol)

      When they (radishes)bolt, the seed pods are amazing in salads, stir fry, or just right of the plant. I rarely harvest the actual radish now days.

    How often do you water fall/winter vegetables? Specifically, garlic. Mine are already coming up and I'm not sure if I cover them with straw now...or what?

    • @leaelizabeth23
      @leaelizabeth23 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cover the garlic and it will do wonderful! Make sure the soil is nice and rich and loose or it won’t get as large. Here in Georgia without my soil loosely fluffed my cloves were always pretty small. Love garlic! I have some coming up from planting it last year already. Started coming up on its own in July 🤷🏻‍♀️

    What about asian leafy greens, like pak choi and mizuna, aren't they very cold hardy, or is it the same as lettuce? I'm going to try them this fall after a tip from another gardner.

    When you talk about covering potatoes for the winter, they're ones that I should plant @ mid-July in zone 7? As opposed to the ones I planted in March/April, right? The root plants you listed are all July planted, yes? And fall for the greens?
