I bought a nearly new hand held leaf blower that did not run put a $10.00 US dollars coil 8 years ago still running today ! I was almost as excited as Dean was !😊
That was out, new when I first started working on site. The one we used was battered in a year, people never took care of it because it was the company one. Drilled into everything though. 👍🏻 I hope you keep it and it brings you years of joy.
Hey dude, I'm a fellow contractor, floor and wall tiler by trade, I love your videos!. I repair most of my makita gear myself, mainly brushes, though. On my off time, I usually sink myself a few too many brews. When the missus catches my stash of beer, she confiscates it. After when there's no beer left I spend my time fixing and reburshing 2nd hand wrist watches on the side, (weird i know but not to me) I see your casio WR almost every video. I love the nostalgia of it but let me send you a special seiko from my collection, itl be the last watch you ever need to buy. As a thankyou from 🇦🇺 and meny other countries you've touched 😊
I'm so happy I found your channel. It is 100% up my alley. I have been repairing my dad's shops tools forever. It's so amazing to see how it's done right. I have learned an absolute TON for your videos thank you.
Well normally you get the dirty ones, it’s great to see you get something so clean for yourself, you deserve a great find like this I am excited for you…. And yes I would not mind clean new tool tear downs, we are never too old to learn… thanks again for the great content…
Absolutely love this! Great to see that this tool ended up with someone who can actually take care of it. Hope you can find more of this type of toy for yourself, you deserve it!
Reckoning that the Build quality back then was , much, much better that what's being knocked out today, as everyone it trying drive down production costs on even top name manufacturers , another Great Upload ... [you really scored big time for that Treasure...]
You've discovered my addiction. I've quite the collection of hammers that I brought for cheap & fixed up. And it's always too hard to let them go, when you find a really tidy one.
That's an amazing find, Dean. Would also love to see some tool teardown videos. I know you don't normally fix the low end consumer stuff like Ryobi, but I think seeing you tear them apart (literally and verbally) would be quite interesting. Edit: Nothing against Ryobi. I own quite a few myself. But, seeing what makes it different in build quality and construction would be interesting.
Great job and video here Dean, informative & easy to follow too. Feeling a lot of second-hand pride for you, well done on the (rightly cautious!) repair job. If you could do a similar teardown on the Makita 8406C diamond core drill, would be greatly appreciated 👍 Heard it can be a difficult one
Absolutely fantastic dean. Really enjoyed your excitement in this video and the content was outstanding thank you. We grow old but never grow up 😁 boys and their toys 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Tear-down videos would be fantastic, I watch you mostly for your opinions about the tools from my wishlist 😉 and good for me, since most of them used to be Milwaukee. Greetings from Poland!
Very therapeutic watching you fix tools and very impressive that when you take it apart you don’t even feel you need to separate stuff for when it goes back together that’s what I have to do all the time . I am very intrigued to know how much of a bargain this really was aswell
Great video thanks, I was given a faulty much cheaper Dewalt rotary/hammer similar size to this, the motor was really noisy, I put the model number into ebay search and a couple of weeks later the same model appeared with a faulty gearbox, split the 2, swapped parts over it’s a very capable diy Sds drill/ breaker. You get such a sense of pride at saving something. I got a power mini belt file/ sander with case in Lidl for £5 because all the bolts for the accessories were lost. A quick rummage around in the garage and I have saved another useful unusual tool.
What an absolute score. We used to have problems like this, at the large store at one of the companies I worked for. Some equipment just sat on those shelves for decades.
I think I can hear Dean's voice jump up a octave or two as he squeezes the trigger and it runs. Great job Dean, congrats on the find and rePair on the cheap!!!
Congratulations on a terrific find. Also yes to tool teardown vids on all the usual suspects like drills, planers, routers, saws etc. I've bought a pair of those fancy knee pads you did a video on a while ago and I'm not disappointed and also got the Skil battery drill for home use and that's a great little drill. I use all Makita cordless tools at work it's just a bit of a challenge to get my boss to part with the cash to get the brushless tools. 😅
That sticker with the arrowhead on it says that the unit was supplied to the UK MoD which explains why it sat around so long and got left. It's been on a shelf at ABRO Donnington where all the storemen knew it was a non-runner but nobody wanted to do the paperwork to send it the mile down the road to Makita EU at Telford. I bet it cost the UK taxpayer more than 700 Euro in the first place and the cost of storing it for eighteen years doesn't bear thinkng about. Good score for you Mr. D. Hopefully you'll get a few more like that. Follow that seller.
I found a German sds drill with a faulty switch, and fixed it, i was happy as a mother lover that day, so to get a kongo drill, hell yea its a good day
I sure hope this video gets a lot of looks, I'd thoroughly enjoy seeing the inside of new tools.. Ave used to break into tools as he bought them (over in Canada ya know) but haven't seen many of his videos lately. He was a metallurgist / mine engineer / miner / the man, anyway.. I'd enjoy some teardown videos, although I tear down every machine I've ever purchased, new or used!! haha
Dean, please do a teardown on anything XGT Makita! Would love to see how you think the internals compare to the older stuff. I have found mine really good but other people i know have had mixed results. Drill, grinder, or anything really would be worth a look. Thanks!!
I have to guess Dean.. 30 Quid? Anyway what a fantastic specimen to get your hands on to.. she's as clean as a newborn baby, innocent and never even broken in.. what a beauty! (I'm only 1 minute into the video, I can't wait to see the issue)
Would love to see the tear down videos at least then we’ll be able to see how much the quality has gone down in these new tools love the videos keep em coming 👍
Well done! Its a great feeling when you find a bargain. I used to scour junk shops and found a few gems but it became harder to find stuff when junk shops started to die out after the late 1990s. As examples I found a book on travel in ireland illustrated by WB Yeates for 50p that sold on ebay for over £50 and an old SME HiFi pickup arm attached to a broken turntable for a fiver. The arm sold to a Japanese ebayer for £270. An vintage fixed spool fishing reel again went to Japan for £120. Ah, the good old days. Ironically Ebay helped to kill off the junk shops and rising rents and rates did the rest!
Big fan of the channel I have a DHR 171 makita wee sds drill and was wondering when does it need servicing or were or when do I add grease to keep it sweet, keep up the great work you do 👍
Good morning Dean. I would like to see a tare down of a new Dewalt first fix nail gun. I've got an old one and the rapid fire button is all loose. I took it to pieces to free it up and it came appart and I've no idea what part has come out to make it tight. And I think that expensive part on mine is no good. Ive replaced the two springs and it will still not sink nails. I love watching you repair everything you pick up. Kind regards Pete over in the UK.
Who gets the feeling Dean is a little excited about this one lol
Of course. 😅
Defo was excited could here it in his voice and rushing to get it all back together to spark it up......gotta love him👍
Dirt cheap too
Made the video more entertaining seeing and hearing how giddy he was 😂. We all get that feeling when we get a bit of luck like that.
I bought a nearly new hand held leaf blower that did not run put a $10.00 US dollars coil 8 years ago still running today ! I was almost as excited as Dean was !😊
Unreal thats its sat around for 18 years until now. Score for you!
That was out, new when I first started working on site. The one we used was battered in a year, people never took care of it because it was the company one. Drilled into everything though. 👍🏻 I hope you keep it and it brings you years of joy.
This was a great one. Teardown videos would also be great, I used to love watching BOLTR videos by AvE.
Dean's excitement is so contagious!
At one point I was more excited than he was :)))
I can feel the excitement in Dean voice and impatience is she runnin' or not. Pure emotions. Awesome and thanks for sharing with us.

His trouble shooting looks so effortless and elegant. Love to see how to repaire power tools and your explanations about the mechanisms are greate
In this world quality is almost none existint anymore! This is why I watch your videos.
Everyone missed the war dept sticker on the side . So this is probably from military surplus and likely lay in a storeroom for many years
We can hear the wee giddy lad coming out in your voice, Dean. What steal of a deal!
I'm so happy I found your channel. It is 100% up my alley. I have been repairing my dad's shops tools forever. It's so amazing to see how it's done right. I have learned an absolute TON for your videos thank you.

Fab mate! Was a bargain indeed! Interesting watching you taking it apart & putting back together again!
Absolutely love this! Great to see that this tool ended up with someone who can actually take care of it. Hope you can find more of this type of toy for yourself, you deserve it!
Bought a Makita HM1213C two weeks ago and I most say it’s a beast if a hammer that size. I like it.
Congrats on your find! Amazing!
Wow, Great Dean. You finally gave a life to a great Makita tool! I like this genre of video.
I have never been more sure Dean would get this up and running. Great score Dean.
Congratulations Dean, A well deserved quality find, You got yourself a cracking bit of kit. !
Cleanest tool I've ever seen on the bench ! Congrats on the score !
As a fellow tool lover, the enthusiasm in your voice made me very happy!

Mighty video sir, great find too, I'd be the same as you, keep it! Also the new tool teardowns would be awesome, same as the ones ya did on patreon.

Dean 'the teal green fixing machine' 😅
I think I can hear Dean's voice jump up a octave or two as he squeezes the trigger and it runs. Great job Dean, congrats on the find and rePair on the cheap!!!
This video deserves a double like! lol awesome stuff Mr Doherty
I have never seen a video where Dean is so excited about the repair.
I’ve got a Makita variable speed drill/ hammer/ screwdriver 38 years old used it to mix plaster driving screws and all sort stuff never missed a beat.
Excellent buy and Find Dean.. it’s certainly worth keeping. It’s like a kid been in a sweet shop 😊😊👍

Nothing pales in comparison to this man’s tool knowledge.

Good for you! ✌🏼

I like the little impact you are using. I have a few and they are handy.

Good luck follows hard work, Thank you.
Good morning Dean. I would like to see a tare down of a new Dewalt first fix nail gun. I've got an old one and the rapid fire button is all loose. I think you took it all apart just for the excitement. Wish i owned that.
