me: Takes anything apart; putting screws and parts into neat piles. Dean: one pile. After reassembly- Me: "Still broken." Dean: "That's Her". Dean you are very talented and Your videos are very informative. Keep up the great work.
Have worked with them in the past but after watching the complexity of the repair and red light glad I didn’t buy one you client is lucky to have you to keep it going
When i started building thirty-five years ago, Hilti were one of the best names there was. I dont know anybody who would touch them these days. The red light of death has scared everyone off.
The timed red light should be illegal but if enough repair people let potential customers know of this gimmick the product will stop selling. The repair we see is about an hour, but you don't show all the time spent finding the parts and you speed up the deconstruction and assembly from time to time. I would guess we should almost double the time of the video to get a real handle on the time spent. Great service and video, Jersey Bill
Well done Mr Dean for your expertise and dedication to this video I enjoyed it that much I had a couple of Baileys with it why not one said keep safe bro take care
Its not a redundancy feature. The light will come on for any running fault, even worn out/bad brushes. If its happening after a prolonged usage duration it will likely be due to a fault/overheating within the control unit of the machine. The tool to reset the red light can be obtained by end users, as I have one. It looks like a car key fob with a small dongle hanging out of it that slots over the red light, press a button and it sends what I presume is an IR signal to reset the light. A pain yes, a redundancy feature no. Thankfully Hilti have done away with this now for the most part now though. If you have a local Hilti Rep have a chat with them! Great informative video as always though Dean, you have some amount of outstanding knowledge when it comes to power tools!
It is a redundancy feature. The machine shuts down after 120 hours of work no mater what condition the machine is in. It good when new and under hilti warranty. But after 10 years, hilti cam charge you 300-400 euro to put it out. Or refuse to take it in as I have been told by customers
My Dear Brother Dean, okay several things to say hope I don't make it too long and boring. #1 It seems strange to me there wouldn't be an electrical way to bypass that red light shut down situation. #2 I don't understand why the guy just didn't buy a different unit because if it did shut down after all that and he couldn't get that red light reset which would be costly anyway he would still have to buy another unit. #3 Which unit would you recommend to the guy to replace that Hilti with ? I was also wondering if you would do a video on some jackhammers electric and pneumatic. I remember using an electric one back in the 80s when I was working construction. God bless you and your family and everyone there at the shop and your friends 👍💪✝️☝️❣️🇨🇮🇺🇸
If you never used one, you would not understand. These machines just Don't stop, they will work themselves to death for you, they are the best workers i got working for me.
Quite a complex apparatus - no doubt high quality , well engineered , precise , comfortable, etc. etc. However for practical AND economical reasons I would prefer something more simple , something that can be repaired with a hammer , a bigger hammer or a brick or something. ( after all , this is for demolition work not brain surgery , isn’t it ? )
That started up and sounded like a little dust extractor. I always thought Hilti were a great brand but the electronics they put in when a service light comes on so the customer has to send it to them for repair isn’t good policy.
How can Hilti justify the timer switch? what they do to the machine when you take it to them for reset? also what is the purpose of that magnetic clutch ? to rotate freely the gears when disconnected from electricity?
So the electromagnet's purpose is only to disengage with the red light of death so Hilti gets a hefty paycheck for resetting it? Hilti waiving the middle finger to it's customers.... how is this company still in business?
your videos is useful , i like the way you explain the problem and how to solve it , if u may can you tell us the website you used to see the diagram,,, all the respect and the support 🙌🙌🙌
I hope there is a viewer who can help you hack it, would be amazing if we could find a way to counter that red light. Maybe someone that reverses the program Fun video, thanks!
Even as a repair shop the delivery charge for Dean in Donegal he said was €30 even if it's for 2 rubber o rings and a set of brushes that the envelope weighs 100g and would cost with royal mail probably £2 to send for a normal man let alone a huge company like Hilti UK.
Compared to a Bosch or Makita they have about twice the internal complexity. One has to ask why - Were they trying to make sure only they could service it? No wonder you don't like fixing them.
I have a migraine now,..😐 What a nightmare contraption to fix. A “Red” power tool is natures way of warning a person not to buy it cos’ sooner or later,it’s going to bite you. Not sure ld cope if,after all that hoo haa,the stupid red light came on,..
I have to ask, but with many many other plug in and battery hammer drills, why would anyone pay an exorbitant price initially for this tool only to discover that after Hilti deems you have used it long enough without a service, it switches itself off. Only to be turned on after another exorbitant fee for a service and reset. Surely Hilti must be losing so much business with this silly and pricey system. They can not be that good. Really???????. Being the cheapskate that I am, I bought an inexpensive Ozito drill similar, for 60 Australian dollars. I have not used it much, but when I have wanted to use it, it performs wonderfully. It came in a case, with a few long bits, and an ordinary drill adapter chuck. All for the lowly price of the 60 dollars. Ah Bunnings what would we do without you.
Lo que me sorprende de este hombre no es sus habilidades porque eso lo da la experiencia. Lo que me sorprende es que sea terriblemente desordenado.🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
You know you are doing something wrong when your demohammer design incorporates a clutch to decouple the motor from the gearbox if the controller decided to do so and the red light is just a complete scam. Goold Lord we need serious right to repair legislation.
You forgot to put the leaf spring in behind the change lever. I saw in the video you pushed it to the side on the table at the end of the repair. Also the red light comes on after 120 runtime hours. This is the recommended time the customer should put a service kit (or in this case service parts) in the machine in order for the machine to keep running and hammering properly. If Hilti didn’t have this timer the customer would just run the tool forever and burn up all the gears and and rotor and so on. The instead of needing just a service kit you would need all the other parts that have burned out as well. This timer was put in the tools because at this runtime the tool would just need a service without catastrophic damage. Also brushes don’t last forever. They last about 120 hours. And the tool should be serviced if the brushes are worn all the way down. On price, Hilti guarantees the cost of a repair no matter how bad the damage is, is not more than 1/3 the cost of a new tool. That’s their policy. Of course that only applies if you send the tool to Hilti to get serviced. You’re free to buy as many parts as you want if you’re doing your own repair, but it’s not worth it. This tool should have been sent in to Hilti anyways. The repair was good, but in a month from now the light will come on and it will need to be sent in to Hilti to be reset anyways. And they won’t reset the tool until a fresh service kit has been put in.
I can somehow understand why Hilti has done it this way. Atleast in my part of the world they give you a 3 year warranty on the tools, if it breaks they fix it (more or less disregarding what you did to the machine). Even when outside of warranty the spare parts are usually really cheap in my experience, if you want to fix it yourself. I've only left one tool to Hilti to be fixed, and that wasn't too expensive either. If you wan't to bypass/reset the service counter you can replace the electronics in the machine. Might not be worth the money compared to actually let Hilti do a service on it, but compared to a new machine it is dirt cheap atleast on some models.
If you connect it to an electric outlet the clutch engages. If you disconnect it the clutch disengages. I must be missing something here, this makes no sense.
Planned obsolescence isnt real, they said. But they also put an auto killswitch in their products to get more money out of you. These Hiltis are a joke. And I don't like how this one is assembled.
Maybe you couldn't do as efficient a diagnosis and repair as dean does in this shop with or without such scattering of parts. The regular parts he uses every month or 2 he will have organised and at hand. Have a look at his tour of the shop. He has every bearing worth having and set of brushes a machine could probably take. It is a testament to dean and previous repair men that you can even get parts for tools made in the 2000s and 90s at all and then when still available from a manufacturer could make the repair economically not worth it or have a 2 week to 2 month wait for the part.
Well, we germans also came up with the complete opposite of this hammer: Bosch GSH11E one of the best demohammers in the world because of its longevity and simplicity.
Surely, they can't be that good, people will pay the exorbitant initial price, then be forced to service it by Hilti for another exorbitant price when they decide you have used it long enough.

Hilti leading the way of planned obsolescence before it was cool 1:02:00
A machine truly ahead of its time.
It's so soothing to watch things come back to working order again. What a skill to have. Thank you for all the work you do.
Karamat
Have worked with them in the past but after watching the complexity of the repair and red light glad I didn’t buy one you client is lucky to have you to keep it going
Dean, just the time involved in finding the new parts shows how well your customers are looked after.
Another happy customer.
When i started building thirty-five years ago, Hilti were one of the best names there was. I dont know anybody who would touch them these days. The red light of death has scared everyone off.
Hilti is a tool hire company now.
I buy, sell, fix, service & use Hilti for my construction jobs,,they are good quality not made in China

Holy Moly, how in goodness do you manage to put them back together?? Even with your experience, it is an achievement to reassemble the feckers again.
I'm from Iran. Thanks a lot for your videos, I really enjoy them!
🇮🇷
These self destruct timer circuits could be bypassed probably, and a different / say bosch controller could be put in.
We have almost the exact same model Hilti that needs some serious maintenence, greatly appreciated. Hopefully this isn't the last Hilti.
That was interesting to watch, your knowledgeable on all that you repair is spot on. good job 👍🏻
„No hilti anymore”… few weeks later … „uhhhh, one more”😂😂😂 thanks for great content as always Sir❤
I'm the same with buying them.😢
And this time that's it. No more last one.
Until my boss says,'actually fix this one now'

Fantastic machines! I only use hilti as a sparky, they never failed me!
You did it again Great video Dean
I like your watch too. Thanks for the video
The deep sigh around 5:30 spoke volumes.
Well done Mr Dean for your expertise and dedication to this video I enjoyed it that much I had a couple of Baileys with it why not one said keep safe bro take care

great work
Could even spend hours watching you going hunting for parts Dean
Another well done job!!!
Brings deadpool to mind - maximum effort 👍 - nice one

My little tool repair work is building up, but flipping used eBay junk makes more money,,it's not for everyone (thankx-Dean)
Wow, this was complex!
Dean, I love my 3 Hiltis...
I like you Hilti te 70😊
Hello from Greeley Colorado. Thank you for the content. Really fun to watch.
Interesting stuff, also a pain in the backside.

Who would buy a Hilti knowing it would choose to die one day even if it's still working perfectly?
If you never used one, you would not understand. These machines just Don't stop, they will work themselves to death for you, they are the best workers i got working for me.
What grease in the syringe ? Do you have a certain type / manufacturer you prefer to use ?

However for practical AND economical reasons I would prefer something more simple , something that can be repaired with a hammer , a bigger hammer or a brick or something. ( after all , this is for demolition work not brain surgery , isn’t it ? )
Why, Dean will fix it for you.
Man once again, happened to catch your other hilti video yesterday or the day before. Blatant planned obsolescence. This should be illegal.
Imagine having to go back to hilti to reset a tool you'd bought, that you own FFS, and they're fairly expensive to begin with
That started up and sounded like a little dust extractor. I always thought Hilti were a great brand but the electronics they put in when a service light comes on so the customer has to send it to them for repair isn’t good policy.
The “HAL” computer in 2001 space odyssey’s was a red light too,…and it bumped nearly everyone off,..just sayin,..
5:34 long deep breath 😮
Ya empieza a tener síntomas de estrés.
Hay que estar todos los días encerrado en un taller haciendo siempre lo mismo🥴🤪🙃
Hey Dean.!! Any way of running the motor direct from the switch or another switch..?? Seems a shame to scrap these solid tools !!
YES - There HAS to be a way.
After searching through youtube I found several comments saying that you can reset some hiltis using infrared light from a tv remote.
How can Hilti justify the timer switch? what they do to the machine when you take it to them for reset? also what is the purpose of that magnetic clutch ? to rotate freely the gears when disconnected from electricity?
Hi Dean, can you tell me the long double ended torx bit you use .
I’ve searched google but can’t find the one you use.
Good morning yall

Hi dean are HILTI wort buying ? anymore ?
No, they are only a hire company now.
Never buy hilti tools outright and never buy used hilti tools.
I've always wondered why using oem vs non-oem o-rings, you can get them in any size. what am i missing?
Is there a way to short out red light wire leads so light does not send signal for shut-down?
I hope there is a viewer who can help you hack it, would be amazing if we could find a way to counter that red light.
Maybe someone that reverses the program
Fun video, thanks!
Yes. We need an electrical genius.
I think Dean doesn't like red / orange tools lol
If it's red you leave it in the shed
Well he has his reasons
But they have made him lots of money.
💪💪👍👍
Why dont you fix hiltis? I watch alot of your videos but must have missed where you said why😅
Because of complications that arise with the red hilti light of death.
Even as a repair shop the delivery charge for Dean in Donegal he said was €30 even if it's for 2 rubber o rings and a set of brushes that the envelope weighs 100g and would cost with royal mail probably £2 to send for a normal man let alone a huge company like Hilti UK.
Is it the same procedure to service a te70? Roughly same year model
Is there a away to hardwire it? Theres no speed control, why not just bypass the controller and the red light?
Compared to a Bosch or Makita they have about twice the internal complexity. One has to ask why - Were they trying to make sure only they could service it? No wonder you don't like fixing them.
Actually some times a makita hammer is more complex. It depends on the models
Hilti the coke of power tools, just one more and then no more……😂
Before I saw any of your videos, I thought Hilti made good tools.
they use to, now they are a hire company
Wait- thought we weren’t doing Hilti anymore?
Again, have you any idea how much oil goes in a Hilti T15
I’ve heard HILTI is the best of the best. But I’d rather stick to Bosch for demolition hammers.
*it was, not anymore
I have a migraine now,..😐 What a nightmare contraption to fix. A “Red” power tool is natures way of warning a person not to buy it cos’ sooner or later,it’s going to bite you. Not sure ld cope if,after all that hoo haa,the stupid red light came on,..
Well designed rotary hammer drill spoilt by a manufacturer's arrogance.
I have to ask, but with many many other plug in and battery hammer drills, why would anyone pay an exorbitant price initially for this tool only to discover that after Hilti deems you have used it long enough without a service, it switches itself off. In most accounts it’s a throw away world. A shame nowadays.
Lo que me sorprende de este hombre no es sus habilidades porque eso lo da la experiencia.
Lo que me sorprende es que sea terriblemente desordenado.🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
Selling a single brush is like selling one shoe, you buy the left and right separately. Ridiculous if you ask me.
Mafell do the same thing and so some dewalt tools. So annoying
What’s the point of selling brushes singly? You’ll almost always change the pair.
You know you are doing something wrong when your demohammer design incorporates a clutch to decouple the motor from the gearbox if the controller decided to do so and the red light is just a complete scam.
Goold Lord we need serious right to repair legislation.
I just wouldn't buy a tool that has a self destruct chip in it..
Curious how the red light feature holds up to next years EU law about right to repair. Because the feature is, how it is now, ridiculous.
You forgot to put the leaf spring in behind the change lever. I saw in the video you pushed it to the side on the table at the end of the repair.

Just say you work for Hilti bitch
This is all correct.
I ditched everything hilti.
Your workshop is as badly organised as mine :) Thankfully I do electronics, so the parts are smaller :)

Planned obsolescence isnt real, they said. But they also put an auto killswitch in their products to get more money out of you. These Hiltis are a joke. And I don't like how this one is assembled.
