- Now the Sexton is complete we are finally aiming to get onto our next long awaited project. In this episode Stuart will be discussing the first stage of the Lee restoration project!
We will hopefully be posting new episodes as and when we complete major parts of the restoration. We aim to have the Lee finished in roughly four to five months.

Truly admire theses amazing folk who restore old machines,and get them going for generations come and see
I don't admire the ones who restore completely garbage items. I find them to be on par with that autistic child holding a stick playing with dog poo while all the cool kids are playing baseball, or cricket.
James Australian garbage items as in useless things or as in garbage condition but still cool machines

Got to be honest .. this gives me some shivvers thinking of crewing that beast .. and I spent 12 years on the Abrams .. M1 and M1A1 tanks
There's an opening in the basket turret it has to align with the side hatch , if it is disabled and on fire and not aligned 👎
Good to see the real thing when I visited the other week.
That is amazing that it survived all those years "Intact" What is the incredible story behind how it managed to survive so intact. AND how YOU lucked out to resurrect to her to her glory days ! Real Cool !
That engine is top shelf... Such a wonderful piece of history.

American, British and German tanks were all "petrol" except a small number of Sherman's. Sherman's and Stuart's also used radial engines
I love the optimism. The ammo crate is rusted through, but "its all there, just need a bit of smoothing out", and the same goes for everything. I suppose, as long as thing can move at all they are in "pretty good shape".
Also a little sad that we consider that "Good shape". I think there should be more museums of old stuff like this.

Great work. I recall the M3 Lee for Spielberg’s 1941 was actually a M7 Priest rebuilt from hull up. Probably only wood.
The Germans in the show Rat Patrol rode around in M7 Priests with German army markings on them. They figured the audience had no idea they were American tracked howitzers.
She's a lovely girl that just needs a little TLC... ^_^
To think that in 50 years there might be videos just like these on our tanks like the Challenger or M1A1 Abrams
Same type of tank that Bogart commanded in the movie Sahara, his tank was named Lulu Belle. We sent some of these to the Russians during the war but they didn't care for them, called them a grave for 7 brothers.
The ones I could remember from that movie was, Dan Duryea, Lloyd Bridges, Rex Ingram, and J. Carrol Naish

our tanks (USA) were great and were easy to repair :) after the north african desert, they were very successful in Burma .
which is why the Sherman imo is one of the top tanks of WWII. Not only was it easy to maintain and repair as you said but also performed their jobs very well
I would had reckoned you guys would have had more of them restored over there, seeing as how we sent tons of them to the British forces in the early stages of the war until we got the Shermans made.
A lot got sent to the Asian theater of operations, Burma, some wound up in Australia where this came from.
It reminds me of the M3 GrantI used to drive past on the way to work everyday in Melbourne.
Same same, but same. The difference was whether or not it had the cupola and 30cal MG mounted above the turret. He says this came from Oz, so it should be a Grant.

There’s an M3 grant at the tank museum which is not that different

We have one of this tank deserted and abandoned used by the 2nd Div of the British Raj after the Battle of Kohima of 1944. It's sad to see the current state as it is completely abandoned and if I'm not mistaken, there were no engines on it. Just came to know it's called the M3 Lee. Our government should have taken measures to restore it at least to be preserve it in state museum along with the history.

I have to question if welding all those rivots was actually more time consuming than just welding the plates together properly. Maybe the design change would have been more work.

How much tourqe does the engine make?
Please notice that the guys jsut stands at the drivers seat position. Thats not common that a hull is that high.

Stop gap that ended up working quite well, laid waste to Panzer 3's.
It took about 15 months from design to production, and about 5 minutes for the 88’s to turn them into scrap iron.
Plot twist, it was a grant all along

Grants and Lees are essentially the same tank, mostly minor differences when the US made the Lee for the UK.

No. The UK used both. The difference is the turret. Lee had a cupola and .30cal MG, Grant did not. However, he says it was sourced from Australia, which only used Grants in WW2.
I still need to get a master ace for m3lee.on wot blitz. Lol
