    Love your videos, but every time you tamp without leveling the coffee first I can't help but cringe.

      Also, I wouldn't call that exactly a tamp.

      @@drazenbabich or exactly a bellow, or exactly a proper dosing. No retention confirmation. Good salesman though.

    An important point that needs to be considered: Just because the Niche doesn't come with bellows, that doesn't mean that it's a "zero retention" system.
    Both Lance Hedrick and Jack from My Coffee Show did tests where they use third-party bellows on the Niche. Both got quite a bit of fines out. I urge you to try it yourself, as the Niche could definitely use some bellows to help it purge the fines, especially those stuck in from static.

    • @OneIdeaTooMany
      @OneIdeaTooMany ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I tested it as well and found that it was more consistent with bellows. I stopped using mine on a regular basis because I have another grinder but also because it took time to weigh my dose in and weigh the dose coming out and adjusting my dose accordingly. The bellows definitely needed to be there.

      @jamieshebubakar5110 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree, I constantly get .2g falling through once the static drops. Always the next day for me. Thinking you could spray them beans, but honestly its insignificant and not enough to worry about in anycase.

      They are sooo close. Really do like the DF83 and right now that's what I would pick.
      Haven't had it for long tho, and still want to play with changing out the blades..

    Thanks for the comparison video, though somewhat apples and oranges with flat v conical burrs. I Would love to see a comparison of the two conical burr grinders; the sette 270 W.i and the niche.

    • @BensCoffeeRants
      @BensCoffeeRants ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't think it is as apples and oranges as people really think. I thought they're both very similar and taste profile but the df83 generally seems smoother and more pleasant with just a little more flavour clarity but also a little less body.

    • @CoffeePartsTV
      @CoffeePartsTV  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'll add it to the list :) Own both machines so not a hard video to do..

    • @patrickhopkins5626
      @patrickhopkins5626 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 270 w.i, which I have had for 2 years now, is a jet engine in comparison to the Niche. It's loud, can't grind fine enough for anything other than aerorpess or a VERY FINE v60 recipe. If you can afford the budget increase, and definitely want a conical, then I'd get a Niche every single time.

    • @BensCoffeeRants
      @BensCoffeeRants ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@patrickhopkins5626lots of people use Settes for espresso or aeropress if yours wasn't grinding fine enough it seems like there's an issue. I believe that grinder needed shims or something to fix that issue. It might be 'normal' but yeah, not ideal.

    • @ericlai1160
      @ericlai1160 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Bens Coffee Rants I own a sette also. There are two shims included in the box...check on youtube for installation. I've installed it, and no problem with fine grinds. (But I am here coz I tried an ek43 and convinced I want a flat burr upgrade lol)

  • @fgarced
    @fgarced ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Niche conical grinder like others hi-end brand found in lower RPM will produce more body and clarity. I have both grinders and honestly they are very different, Niche = More chocolate, nuts and silky texture and DF is more separation of flavors and clarity (if you like to pour over this is your option).

  • @BensCoffeeRants
    @BensCoffeeRants ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Niche definitely wins in the grinding noise department. Workflow is also nicer maybe but DF83 isn't bad either workflow wise and is more versatile if you want to grind into the portafilter you can without any mods (not so with the niche zero).
    Having a bellows may not necessarily be a PRO but not sure if the DF83 really needs it. I'll test using mine without it as I believe it's better to not have to resort to using a bellows for a few reasons.
    I thought they're both very similar in taste profile but the df83 generally seems smoother and more pleasant with just a little more flavour clarity but also a little less body, but pretty close.

    You cant make a video about grinders when your puck prep is worst their is, at least give it a tap or something
    straight tamping is the worst thing you can do.
    other then that great video
