  • Jonathan Bird and Todd Kelly from ‪@BlueWorldTV‬ go diving into Shangri-La, a super tight cave in Marianna, FL.
    There is not a whole lot of content about Shangri-La on TH-cam, we couldn't even find a map of the cave!, so we knew we had to show and react to this video because they did such an awesome job capturing their experience there.

    Today I finished getting my PADI open water + advanced open water certifications and I am looking forward to keep getting better and eventually get cave certified.
    I wish I lived in the US and could have one of you as an instructor.
    Hope to meet you guys some day and thank you again.

      That's awesome man. I hope to be able to get into diving as well one day. I've had a very difficult time in life the past 7 years or so. Been battling severe depression, and anxiety. I attempted suicide this past November, and police looked for any reason they could to throw me in jail, and they succeeded. Instead of making my life more easy, they made it more difficult. I caught a malicious mischief charge 3rd degree, for a small fist indentation in my own hallway closet door, that I did over a year prior, and didn't even mean to punch through it. They tried saying it was my girlfriends property but the house was equally both of ours. Now I'm on probation. So things have been hard. I think diving would be something that would help lift my spirits.

      @cmcproductions26 I’m really sorry to hear that, I have dealt with similar things myself, on and off, for a good 10/15 years. Why did the police *want* to put you in jail? That’s what I can’t understand. I see you’ve explained why (although putting you in jail for a dent on your own property!? What!?) I hope you’re doing better these days anyway. Much love from the UK.

    I think that restriction would've been more claustrophobic-inducing if Jonathan and Todd weren't so calm the whole time. Those clear GoPro shots and awesome background music certainly helped as well. Atmosphere is key.
    Gus and Woody swapped personalities in this episode: Gus said he'd consider going no mount if there was a UFO to explore on the other side while Woody decided against doing the cave BECAUSE of the no mount factor. Interesting.

    I think one of the most beautiful things about these caves (and I know this might sound weird) is when you get air pockets on the roof of the cave that shimmer just like the surface of water. It looks so trippy, especially when they exhale and all the bubbles go up and disappear into the ceiling.

    • @Vincerama
      @Vincerama 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      it is cool, but it's also somewhat damaging in certain environments. Like in a coral reef, wherever air gets trapped ... any coral polyps trapped in that little air pocket will die. In a shipwreck, wherever bubbles are, the wood will get damaged. I'm sure part of cave diving/shipwreck diving training mentions the effect of bubbles.

    • @tenzinsmith
      @tenzinsmith 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@Vincerama in some caves, especially rarely-dived or previously undiscovered ones, there is a certain amount of particulation; tiny pieces of rock and dust raining down that got dislodged by bubbles. The caves themselves are quite solid though, and as far as I know it hasn’t ever caused some type of structural issue or significant damage. This is becoming less of a concern as closed-circuit rebreathers become more of a tool of choice for exploration-which don’t leave any bubbles at all. A small amount would be vented from the counter-lungs and your drysuit upon ascending, but these are tiny and negligible.

    • @Irish_Georgia_Girl
      @Irish_Georgia_Girl ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It’s crazy to think that I live maybe an hour from this location. I’ve got family in Marianna, and we use to go the Marianna Caverns when we were kids. It’s one of those small towns with so much natural beauty!

    I saw a lot of small air pockets on the roof of the cave which I can only assume are from divers expelling co2, do these pockets build up and become a problem after a while? if so, how do you clear them out

    I love what the one guy said about taking off his equipment if there were a ufo to check out further in. I laughed hard at that. Matter of fact if that were the case I’d put forth the time and money to properly learn cave diving even though I absolutely 100% suffer from claustrophobia.

    My boyfriend who used to dive for a treasure ship here in South Florida is now looking over my shoulder watching these videos with me. His eyeballs are popping out of his head because he used to go to the springs to swim he says but not to dive. Like me those tight cracks and Holes would put us in a panic attack

    Hey guys - great video! It would be really helpful if you guys gave an approximate height, weight and shirt size of everyone that goes through these restrictions.
    As a 6'2" 2xl 280lbs person, cave diving seems SOOO cool but slightly out of reach...

    When you have a total silt out situation and the second or third person decides to thumb the dive, would it be helpful to have a predetermined sound signal (like blowing a whistle once or twice) to those in front you, who can’t see you, that you are turning around? Jonathan Bird has some truly amazing videos. Have been following them since the beginning.

    I'm sure it's personal.
    "Wouldn't be enjoyable for me" is a great way to put it.
    Gotta be some people who actually would enjoy unmounting their rebreathers and squeezing through, just like some people like low vis dives. That whole 'different strokes for different folks' thing 😜

      We follow rules so this doesn’t happen. For example one of the rules is about gas management, only go in as far as you can go with 1/3 of your gas, which means that even with an issue you would have 2/3 of gas (I.E. double what you used to go it) to get back out. Plus your buddy has 2/3s too!

    man, these vids make me wanna try cave diving.
    Okay so like. They make me wanna refresh my open water chops, get some good practice in, get comfortable with my basics, _then_ get certified and try cave diving. Or maybe wreck diving. Or both! Both is good. But just in general you guys' channel has reminded me of the absolute _joy_ that diving was for me, when I got my Open water certs.

    Hi guys. Love you content, just one thing though is the correct way to pronounce marianna. It's named after the founders two daughters Mary and Anna. So it's pronounced one after the other and anna is pronounced with a harder "an" beginning rather an a softer "on" beginning. It seems Spanish but it's Scottish. He used Mari instead of mary because maryanna would then be mispronounced mar-yanna. Kind of a pick your poison type of situation
    I don't mean any harm by it. I used to live there so that knowledge might actually help yall next time you go exploring. If you really want to fit in then draw it out with a southern drawl
    The pronunciations outsiders give to places are always interesting. Ocklockoknee and wewahitchka always give people trouble
