    You have a new subscriber here, too! 6mm is a scale we love playing in our club and the Great Northern War is one of the few periods we don't game, so this is a great stuff. Your idea to use a board game to illustrate the historical context of the action is most clever, as well. Great work on this AAR (and lovely figures, BTW...they look sharp).

      Thank you! I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of videos other people will make. Personally I prefer watching slightly longer reports as I usually only watch them while painting, but I think the 10 minute limit makes it much more fun challenge in terms of editing and creating a narrative!

    Excellent video!! Good looking terrain and great figures. Historical commentaries w/ miniatures on display is the best way to show the ebb and flow of an actual battle.
    Great job. Hope to see more.

      Thank you, I'm happy you liked it! I personally like having a bit of the historical background and reasoning in these sorts of videos, though it means that they don't cover the nuts and bolts of the ruleset quite as well.

    Well presented. I love the GNW!
    I played this scenario, also in 6mm, at a convention a couple of years back.

    I like not only the video, but also the historical theme/battle itself! Participation of Saxony in the great northern war I find very attractive and important to mention. The Russia-Sweden battles are clearly better known in the world, so big thank you for showing such interesting part of this conflict.

    Awesome narration and sound effects, really enjoyed it. A little less shakey and a bit slower with the camera movement (or more static shots with zoom instead of shifting back and forth), and this is top notch content! Keep it up!

    Fantastic video! 6mm is just so effective at making you feel like you're looking at a battle. Also seems to be the only scale to give you room for maneuver.

      Thank you! The art of sound mixing is definitely a challenge I only began to appreciate while making this, getting a loud cannonshot to work while also having the narration at a reasonable level turned out to be beyond me.

    • @Caladine
      @Caladine  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! The mat is Geekvillain's "Autumn grass" cloth mat. The camera seems to change lighting every once in a while distorting the colours a bit, but its much more green than the dry yellowish that their store page seems to show.

    • @Caladine
      @Caladine  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      One take only, such is the grace of Kings! Though looking back at it the cavalry on the other flank rallied by Rehnskiöld should've probably routed altogether , I'm not super comfortable with all the different modifiers in the Twilight rules yet.

    What are your sources for this battle?

    • @Caladine
      @Caladine  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Quite a few different sources.
      Tacitus.nu offers a really great variety in uniform details, organisations and other things. The author of the rules used, Nick Dorrell, has done a scenario at a 1 base = 1 battalion on the "Wyreforest gamers" website for Volley and Bayonet. I also used the Order of battle for Kliszow in Polemos GNW as a reference to things like the approximate number of brigades to be used in this game.
      For the map, I used the (unfortunately unsourced) map that is on the Wikipedia page of the battle, as well as the 1839 map from "La Pologne", and compared them to approximate map data from Google maps. Nida has obviously moved in the last 200 years, and the swamps have been drained and cultivated, but the forested hill and the position of some of the villages are still there. The only "period landmark" I know of isn't visible on this set up of the game, but is the church at the village of Kije, which was built in the 1600s.
      The polish army composition is very abstracted, as there was so little infantry that a full unit would've been excessive. There used to be a very good source on the four Polish-Lithuanian armies on a website called "Northern Wars", which is now defunct. Thankfully some of those webpages are still available on webarchive, that particular one included.
      If you have any other questions feel free to ask!
